TENACITY | Win This Year: Week 2

We all have goals we’ve tried to reach but never had the strength to finish. This week, learn how to develop the tenacity to push through difficulty so you can win.

1
00:00:10.570 --> 00:00:12.890
A Go Trip is about going.

2
00:00:14.820 --> 00:00:16.500
Going outside your comfort zone,

3
00:00:18.330 --> 00:00:19.830
going to a new place,

4
00:00:21.150 --> 00:00:22.680
going beyond normal,

5
00:00:22.710 --> 00:00:26.010
going where you want to go instead of where you've been.

6
00:00:27.710 --> 00:00:31.130
Your normal life is getting you as far as you can go.

7
00:00:31.730 --> 00:00:33.020
And where are you going right now?

8
00:00:33.050 --> 00:00:34.460
You're going the way of normal.

9
00:00:36.320 --> 00:00:39.140
If you want to go further than you are right now,

10
00:00:39.140 --> 00:00:42.230
you have to go outside of what you're comfortable with.

11
00:00:43.150 --> 00:00:45.590
That is the role of Go Trips.

12
00:00:46.170 --> 00:00:47.270
They're beyond normal.

13
00:00:47.510 --> 00:00:48.950
They stretch you.

14
00:00:48.950 --> 00:00:51.770
They push you. They give you actual capacity.

15
00:00:53.310 --> 00:00:56.190
Muscles you didn't have beforehand

16
00:00:56.220 --> 00:00:59.640
that now can take your normal life beyond the normal.

17
00:01:00.000 --> 00:01:01.950
And you get to help people.

18
00:01:02.610 --> 00:01:06.000
You get to take on actual physical problems

19
00:01:06.000 --> 00:01:08.430
and make a difference in somebody else's life

20
00:01:08.460 --> 00:01:11.400
and the trajectory of their family and their village.

21
00:01:12.990 --> 00:01:16.530
People you encounter will be changed because you stepped out

22
00:01:16.560 --> 00:01:18.640
and you went on a Go Trip.

23
00:01:20.010 --> 00:01:21.660
Let's Go.

24
00:01:25.300 --> 00:01:27.580
- This could be your year to Go.

25
00:01:27.610 --> 00:01:28.900
Why would you not do that?

26
00:01:29.290 --> 00:01:33.610
2020 is a great year for you to try something new.

27
00:01:33.850 --> 00:01:34.920
Do something adventurous.

28
00:01:34.930 --> 00:01:36.460
Go outside of your comfort zone.

29
00:01:36.910 --> 00:01:39.250
As a church, you know, this is who we are as a church.

30
00:01:39.250 --> 00:01:40.840
We're a church who goes.

31
00:01:40.840 --> 00:01:44.830
We believe that God has really, really good things in store for you,

32
00:01:44.830 --> 00:01:47.740
for me, for your friends, for my friends this year.

33
00:01:47.740 --> 00:01:50.380
Whether you're joining us online right now

34
00:01:50.380 --> 00:01:51.940
and you join us online every week,

35
00:01:51.970 --> 00:01:54.280
whether you're sitting in a Crossroads building

36
00:01:54.490 --> 00:01:58.300
or you go halfway across the world to experience God this year,

37
00:01:58.570 --> 00:02:00.340
I think He has something for you.

38
00:02:00.630 --> 00:02:03.370
And, you know, when we go outside of our comfort zone

39
00:02:03.370 --> 00:02:05.050
and we choose to go on an adventure,

40
00:02:05.050 --> 00:02:07.750
it gives us opportunity to meet God in a fresh way,

41
00:02:07.960 --> 00:02:11.260
to make some new friends, to create great memories.

42
00:02:11.590 --> 00:02:14.620
And you might just learn something new about yourself

43
00:02:14.710 --> 00:02:16.360
and new about God on that trip.

44
00:02:16.660 --> 00:02:20.170
And we don't want you to be worried at all about the finances

45
00:02:20.170 --> 00:02:22.670
or the details or how might that --

46
00:02:22.670 --> 00:02:24.430
We'll help you with those things.

47
00:02:24.460 --> 00:02:27.070
If you want to chat with us on the Crossroads website

48
00:02:27.070 --> 00:02:29.770
about any of your questions around Go Trips,

49
00:02:30.070 --> 00:02:32.920
we have staff and volunteers who would love right now

50
00:02:32.920 --> 00:02:34.390
to chat with you about that.

51
00:02:34.670 --> 00:02:36.760
You can head to Crossroads.net/Go

52
00:02:37.030 --> 00:02:39.220
and see more about the trips that are heading to Bolivia

53
00:02:39.250 --> 00:02:42.520
and South Africa and India and Puerto Rico,

54
00:02:42.640 --> 00:02:44.560
all over the place this year.

55
00:02:44.860 --> 00:02:48.730
It might just be the thing that makes your 2020 that much different

56
00:02:48.760 --> 00:02:52.930
and that much better than if you were to stay where you are

57
00:02:52.930 --> 00:02:54.340
and do the comfortable thing this year.

58
00:02:54.430 --> 00:02:56.230
I think you'll be better for it.

59
00:02:57.040 --> 00:03:00.370
The other thing that's coming up for us as a church this year

60
00:03:00.430 --> 00:03:03.550
is we have a brand new groups season.

61
00:03:03.880 --> 00:03:06.970
I was just reading in Hebrews 10 earlier this week.

62
00:03:07.270 --> 00:03:09.010
And one of the verses I was reading said:

63
00:03:09.010 --> 00:03:12.610
don't neglect to meet with others like some are in the habit of doing,

64
00:03:12.820 --> 00:03:17.080
but get together for the purposes of encouraging one another.

65
00:03:17.440 --> 00:03:20.080
I want you to be encouraged this year.

66
00:03:20.110 --> 00:03:21.940
I want you to have fun with other people.

67
00:03:22.210 --> 00:03:25.840
I want your friendships and your relationship with God to go to new places.

68
00:03:26.120 --> 00:03:29.140
And that can happen if you join a group,

69
00:03:29.380 --> 00:03:31.840
or better yet, become a group leader.

70
00:03:31.860 --> 00:03:33.280
Right now is the time

71
00:03:33.550 --> 00:03:36.820
where we are recruiting new group leaders for the year.

72
00:03:37.030 --> 00:03:39.130
And you don't have to have all of your stuff figured out

73
00:03:39.130 --> 00:03:40.090
or have it all together.

74
00:03:40.300 --> 00:03:44.260
We'll guide you, coach you, give you content to help you do this.

75
00:03:44.590 --> 00:03:48.190
And it's just a matter of whether or not you're going to step out

76
00:03:48.460 --> 00:03:51.220
and take the bold move and become a leader this year.

77
00:03:51.430 --> 00:03:53.380
Chat with us on the Crossroads website

78
00:03:53.380 --> 00:03:55.540
or head to Crossroads.net/groups

79
00:03:55.840 --> 00:03:57.130
to get more information

80
00:03:57.160 --> 00:04:00.330
and to apply to be a leader today.

81
00:04:00.730 --> 00:04:02.470
And we're gonna spend some time worshipping together.

82
00:04:02.830 --> 00:04:05.920
Worship is the time where we actually sing songs to God.

83
00:04:05.980 --> 00:04:07.960
These are just prayers put to music.

84
00:04:08.200 --> 00:04:10.960
And whether you believe these words fully and deeply

85
00:04:10.960 --> 00:04:14.380
or you want to believe these words just a little bit more

86
00:04:14.620 --> 00:04:17.050
than where you do right now, go out on a limb

87
00:04:17.050 --> 00:04:21.820
and actually sing these songs, say these words out loud to God.

88
00:04:22.540 --> 00:04:25.330
He might do something in your head and in your heart

89
00:04:25.420 --> 00:04:28.870
and in your life in the midst of declaring out loud

90
00:04:28.870 --> 00:04:30.730
what you want to believe deeper in your heart.

91
00:04:59.610 --> 00:05:02.240
- Well, hey, welcome to the weekend here at Crossroads.

92
00:05:02.250 --> 00:05:03.410
My name is Justin.

93
00:05:03.990 --> 00:05:07.530
We're in week two of our series called Win this Year.

94
00:05:08.010 --> 00:05:09.860
And that's what we want you to do, we want you to win.

95
00:05:10.300 --> 00:05:11.700
You know, one of the things I love is

96
00:05:11.700 --> 00:05:14.850
I love when my kids walk into a room as loud as they can

97
00:05:14.850 --> 00:05:18.040
with all their chaos and screaming about how much they love me.

98
00:05:19.110 --> 00:05:21.900
The Bible says that God loves it when we shout out to Him

99
00:05:21.900 --> 00:05:23.040
and when we sing to Him.

100
00:05:23.560 --> 00:05:26.440
Sometimes we need to be woken up to that reality,

101
00:05:26.440 --> 00:05:28.890
and it takes some loud drums and it takes a lot of them

102
00:05:29.280 --> 00:05:31.960
to remind us that what we do here is not passive.

103
00:05:32.640 --> 00:05:33.310
It's active.

104
00:05:33.320 --> 00:05:36.630
We connect our beliefs into our actions through song.

105
00:05:36.660 --> 00:05:37.830
We want you to join with us.

106
00:05:37.850 --> 00:05:40.200
So if you're in the room, stand up with us.

107
00:05:40.560 --> 00:05:42.660
If you're at home, man, you're glad you're joining with us.

108
00:05:42.690 --> 00:05:44.940
Do whatever you've got to do to engage with us.

109
00:05:45.240 --> 00:05:48.150
Whatever you believe or don't believe, you're in the right place.

110
00:05:48.590 --> 00:05:50.220
We're glad you're here together with us.

111
00:13:08.460 --> 00:13:10.320
- Well, sometimes when we worship together,

112
00:13:10.320 --> 00:13:12.630
I know that it can feel a little awkward or weird

113
00:13:12.630 --> 00:13:16.440
because we're singing out loud and we're declaring these words to God.

114
00:13:16.740 --> 00:13:19.790
But I think He loves it because when we declare that

115
00:13:19.790 --> 00:13:22.590
He's a good father and we declare that He's a good king,

116
00:13:22.800 --> 00:13:26.140
maybe we believe those things fully or we want to believe them more.

117
00:13:26.160 --> 00:13:29.250
But what we're saying to God and why we call this worship

118
00:13:29.310 --> 00:13:32.460
is because we are ascribing worth to Him.

119
00:13:32.490 --> 00:13:34.410
We're telling Him that He's first.

120
00:13:34.860 --> 00:13:38.610
And we can do that verbally through song, and He loves it.

121
00:13:38.940 --> 00:13:41.340
And another way that we can tell God that He's first

122
00:13:41.610 --> 00:13:46.140
is we can practically put Him first in certain areas of our lives,

123
00:13:46.230 --> 00:13:47.760
like our finances.

124
00:13:48.030 --> 00:13:51.180
And just like worship, it can feel a little uncomfortable

125
00:13:51.180 --> 00:13:54.270
or awkward or difficult to make that step,

126
00:13:54.510 --> 00:13:57.360
to actually give money away,

127
00:13:57.660 --> 00:14:00.180
actually give money to the church, give it to God.

128
00:14:00.240 --> 00:14:03.300
And yet it tells God that He's worth it.

129
00:14:03.510 --> 00:14:04.860
It ascribes worth to Him.

130
00:14:05.130 --> 00:14:07.650
And it helps align our heads and our hearts.

131
00:14:07.920 --> 00:14:11.190
And you can do that by heading to Crossroads.net/give.

132
00:14:11.500 --> 00:14:14.070
And you could choose to give to the church today,

133
00:14:14.070 --> 00:14:16.530
maybe for the first time, maybe for the hundredth time.

134
00:14:16.770 --> 00:14:19.620
But you should know that as you do this, you're telling God

135
00:14:19.830 --> 00:14:21.930
that you trust Him to sustain you,

136
00:14:22.260 --> 00:14:25.350
and He's honored and feels loved by you,

137
00:14:25.620 --> 00:14:28.110
that you would choose to prioritize Him

138
00:14:28.110 --> 00:14:29.910
and tell Him he's worth it in those ways.

139
00:14:30.420 --> 00:14:32.970
You know, not everything that we do in church

140
00:14:33.180 --> 00:14:35.200
has to be serious or difficult.

141
00:14:35.220 --> 00:14:36.300
Sometimes it is.

142
00:14:36.360 --> 00:14:38.070
And it's good for that to be true.

143
00:14:38.370 --> 00:14:42.600
Sometimes we just do things that Crossroads because it's fun.

144
00:14:42.660 --> 00:14:45.390
Sometimes we just do things in church because we can.

145
00:14:45.420 --> 00:14:48.590
And so we have a moment like that right now for you.

146
00:14:48.600 --> 00:14:50.970
We're in a series right now called Win This Year.

147
00:14:51.180 --> 00:14:55.050
And I want you to actually get to win something right now.

148
00:14:55.110 --> 00:14:58.290
It could be the first thing of 2020 that you win.

149
00:14:58.590 --> 00:15:01.060
And it has no point other than it's fun.

150
00:15:01.290 --> 00:15:06.360
So you may have seen the Yeti and Big Foot characters

151
00:15:06.360 --> 00:15:08.220
in the midst of this series branding.

152
00:15:08.460 --> 00:15:11.070
Right now, they're going to enter a competition.

153
00:15:11.280 --> 00:15:14.490
Week in and week out, they're in competition with each other.

154
00:15:14.640 --> 00:15:15.700
You might be a Yeti fan.

155
00:15:15.720 --> 00:15:17.100
You might be a Big Foot fan.

156
00:15:17.340 --> 00:15:21.840
But what you could do right now is you could text in 313131

157
00:15:22.050 --> 00:15:25.560
who you think is going to win the competition in this next video,

158
00:15:25.830 --> 00:15:26.890
Yeti or Big Foot?

159
00:15:27.020 --> 00:15:29.070
Now I'm trusting that you're not going to fast forward

160
00:15:29.310 --> 00:15:30.720
and watch this ahead of time.

161
00:15:30.750 --> 00:15:33.120
We're in church, people, have integrity.

162
00:15:33.330 --> 00:15:37.200
But text in who you think is going to win Yeti or Big Foot

163
00:15:37.200 --> 00:15:41.730
and you'll have a chance to win an actual Yeti cooler,

164
00:15:41.730 --> 00:15:43.770
some great beef jerky, some other prizes.

165
00:15:43.800 --> 00:15:50.580
And maybe best yet, the costumes for Yeti and Bigfoot,

166
00:15:50.580 --> 00:15:53.280
uncleaned full of sweat, just because we can.

167
00:15:53.520 --> 00:15:56.310
This is going to happen every week of this series,

168
00:15:56.310 --> 00:16:00.180
you'll be entered to win and we'll send you this package if you do.

169
00:16:00.480 --> 00:16:01.650
Text us right now.

170
00:16:02.070 --> 00:16:05.940
And you know, I believe that God wants you to win this year.

171
00:16:08.700 --> 00:16:12.540
- Win This Year with Bigfoot and Yeti..

172
00:16:15.970 --> 00:16:17.550
Today's competition: Armwrestling.

173
00:16:21.220 --> 00:16:22.640
Ut-oh, backwards hats.

174
00:16:24.060 --> 00:16:25.240
This is going to be over the top.

175
00:16:25.240 --> 00:16:25.430
And wrestle.

176
00:16:31.230 --> 00:16:32.360
We've got a good match going here.

177
00:16:32.360 --> 00:16:39.040
Yeti's playing dirty, Bigfoot's playing dirty, oh man.

178
00:16:42.560 --> 00:16:44.950
And the winner is Bigfoot.

179
00:16:55.340 --> 00:16:57.140
- Now, why do we play things like that?

180
00:16:58.460 --> 00:17:00.670
Because we can, that's part of the reason we do.

181
00:17:00.690 --> 00:17:03.800
Part of the reason is because a lot of us have

182
00:17:03.800 --> 00:17:05.600
a little bit of a junior high sense of humor around here.

183
00:17:05.780 --> 00:17:09.140
But I tell you the main reason is, the main reason is

184
00:17:09.140 --> 00:17:11.240
we have short attention spans.

185
00:17:11.900 --> 00:17:17.120
And so we try to put curve balls in there to keep us focused.

186
00:17:17.490 --> 00:17:18.610
That's what I'm going to talk about today.

187
00:17:18.620 --> 00:17:20.510
How do you keep your focus?

188
00:17:20.840 --> 00:17:25.820
How do you keep your tenacity with your head going towards the thing

189
00:17:25.820 --> 00:17:28.480
that you want to have happen in your life during 2020?

190
00:17:28.480 --> 00:17:29.420
I'm going to talk about that today.

191
00:17:29.420 --> 00:17:31.100
Let's pray before we go any further.

192
00:17:31.130 --> 00:17:40.310
God, I am thankful that you brought people within
earshot and visual sight of what's happening right now

193
00:17:40.310 --> 00:17:43.940
to be pushed a little bit and be comforted a little bit.

194
00:17:44.790 --> 00:17:47.470
It's always an honor for me to talk about transcendent concepts,

195
00:17:47.480 --> 00:17:49.220
and today is no different.

196
00:17:49.640 --> 00:17:52.820
Help me to be clear, helpful, and in alignment with Your truth.

197
00:17:52.850 --> 00:17:57.680
I pray these things according to the character and identity of Jesus, Amen.

198
00:18:02.820 --> 00:18:05.100
So we've talked in this series about winning.

199
00:18:05.100 --> 00:18:08.250
1 Corinthians 9:24 says, we talked about it last week,

200
00:18:08.400 --> 00:18:11.280
don't you know in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?

201
00:18:11.510 --> 00:18:14.250
Run in such a way that you may win.

202
00:18:14.400 --> 00:18:16.020
We're calling it a series on winning.

203
00:18:16.020 --> 00:18:18.660
It could also be called a series on

204
00:18:18.660 --> 00:18:20.880
finding God's will for your life and accomplishing it.

205
00:18:21.360 --> 00:18:23.190
Same thing, but winning is a lot shorter than

206
00:18:23.310 --> 00:18:25.140
finding God's will for your life and accomplishing it.

207
00:18:25.740 --> 00:18:30.330
I think all of us have things in 2020 that God wants us to do,

208
00:18:30.330 --> 00:18:32.490
that we need to discover, that we need to achieve.

209
00:18:32.670 --> 00:18:37.560
And whether we do those things or not, those things will be our wins.

210
00:18:37.560 --> 00:18:40.470
And if we don't do those things, those things will be our losses.

211
00:18:40.500 --> 00:18:44.130
Last week we looked at vision, the picture of where we're going.

212
00:18:44.250 --> 00:18:46.140
What is it that we want?

213
00:18:46.170 --> 00:18:48.120
What is it we're striving after?

214
00:18:48.390 --> 00:18:51.690
And today, it's not about having a picture of what we want.

215
00:18:51.750 --> 00:18:56.130
It's about the tenacity to actually keep going after it.

216
00:18:56.370 --> 00:18:58.770
What does tenacity mean?

217
00:18:59.100 --> 00:18:59.610
Here's what it means:

218
00:19:16.860 --> 00:19:19.380
In this series we're going through the Book of Joshua,

219
00:19:19.380 --> 00:19:21.180
or at least a bunch of points in the book of Joshua.

220
00:19:21.210 --> 00:19:25.440
Joshua was a key figure, a key leader in the history of Israel.

221
00:19:25.450 --> 00:19:28.980
And this book is a key element of Israel's history.

222
00:19:28.980 --> 00:19:32.790
It's kind of crazy that the nation of Israel even exists today.

223
00:19:33.480 --> 00:19:36.360
They're like the oldest nation that's still around

224
00:19:36.660 --> 00:19:41.160
and is still one them economic powerhouses on the entire globe.

225
00:19:41.790 --> 00:19:44.370
This is a nation that has been enslaved.

226
00:19:44.380 --> 00:19:47.250
This is a nation that's been practically exterminated:

227
00:19:47.250 --> 00:19:50.100
Six million Jews eliminated during the Holocaust.

228
00:19:50.130 --> 00:19:54.840
This is a nation which still receives a level of anti-Semitism.

229
00:19:55.080 --> 00:19:57.550
This is a nation where they inhabit right now,

230
00:19:57.590 --> 00:20:02.010
they got a land to be in after not being in one for generations.

231
00:20:02.010 --> 00:20:05.010
A land they inherited or they were given after World War II.

232
00:20:05.670 --> 00:20:08.700
Mark Twain said it wasn't fit for camels to walk through,

233
00:20:09.030 --> 00:20:10.920
and now it is this lush thing that they've done.

234
00:20:10.920 --> 00:20:14.550
The nation of Israel has been pretty, pretty impressive.

235
00:20:14.910 --> 00:20:16.590
And whatever you think about the nature of Israel,

236
00:20:16.590 --> 00:20:18.570
one thing we should all be able to agree on,

237
00:20:18.570 --> 00:20:20.250
they are tenacious.

238
00:20:21.300 --> 00:20:22.620
They are tenacious.

239
00:20:22.890 --> 00:20:25.020
They just keep going.

240
00:20:25.230 --> 00:20:30.810
And you and I, if we want to win in 2020, we've got to be tenacious.

241
00:20:31.380 --> 00:20:33.870
Now, this year is 2020.

242
00:20:34.320 --> 00:20:36.210
And I don't know how many of you have ever been

243
00:20:36.210 --> 00:20:38.580
on a leadership team for a business

244
00:20:38.610 --> 00:20:42.870
or for a civic organization or a nonprofit group

245
00:20:43.110 --> 00:20:44.830
or a church or something like that.

246
00:20:44.880 --> 00:20:49.170
But if you were and you were on one of those kind of boards

247
00:20:49.170 --> 00:20:53.640
or one of those steering committees or thought process teams,

248
00:20:53.640 --> 00:20:57.930
whatever was and you around in say the year 2000

249
00:20:57.960 --> 00:21:04.590
or the year 1995, you might have come across a 2020 vision.

250
00:21:04.640 --> 00:21:08.130
I mean I was around a bunch of nonprofits where they had a 2020 vision.

251
00:21:08.160 --> 00:21:09.210
Get it like year 2020 and 20/20 vision?

252
00:21:09.210 --> 00:21:12.170
Get it?

253
00:21:12.170 --> 00:21:13.440
You get it, get it?

254
00:21:13.440 --> 00:21:14.110
2020 and 20/20.

255
00:21:14.470 --> 00:21:19.030
They would have these massive goals like start a church in every city

256
00:21:19.640 --> 00:21:22.560
or we're going to grow this by that, these massive amounts.

257
00:21:22.600 --> 00:21:24.630
But Crossroads never had a 2020 vision.

258
00:21:24.930 --> 00:21:25.530
We don't -- we've never.

259
00:21:25.530 --> 00:21:27.570
We've had vision, things we're going after.

260
00:21:27.570 --> 00:21:28.170
We don't have a 2020 vision

261
00:21:28.710 --> 00:21:28.970
Let me tell you why we never had a 2020 vision.

262
00:21:30.810 --> 00:21:32.610
We never had a 2020 vision in large part because

263
00:21:33.270 --> 00:21:35.520
I don't want to put something out there that we wouldn't do,

264
00:21:36.600 --> 00:21:38.490
these high lofty ideals.

265
00:21:38.840 --> 00:21:42.000
I would love someone to figure out how we could tabulate

266
00:21:42.000 --> 00:21:45.480
across America all of the 2020 vision statements have been out there.

267
00:21:45.480 --> 00:21:48.390
Of course no one ever did a 2020 vision statement

268
00:21:48.390 --> 00:21:50.760
in like 2015 because that would be too much accountability,

269
00:21:50.760 --> 00:21:51.960
is going to happen in five years.

270
00:21:52.200 --> 00:21:53.540
It would always be something way, way out.

271
00:21:53.590 --> 00:21:56.430
I would love to see how many actually came true.

272
00:21:56.430 --> 00:21:58.430
And I would tell you, I'm pretty darn sure,

273
00:21:58.450 --> 00:22:00.300
like none of them or 0.001

274
00:22:00.350 --> 00:22:00.660
percent.

275
00:22:00.840 --> 00:22:01.340
Why is that?

276
00:22:02.190 --> 00:22:06.270
Because it's easy to have a vision and put some plaque on the wall.

277
00:22:06.870 --> 00:22:10.890
It's a lot harder to do the hard work every single day,

278
00:22:10.890 --> 00:22:16.050
tenaciously going forward one step after another.

279
00:22:16.080 --> 00:22:19.320
If you have a vision for your life, if you want to win,

280
00:22:19.650 --> 00:22:21.090
it will cost you and I.

281
00:22:22.020 --> 00:22:23.490
It will be difficult.

282
00:22:23.850 --> 00:22:25.020
It will be hard.

283
00:22:25.320 --> 00:22:27.930
If you're not having difficulty, if it's not hard,

284
00:22:28.110 --> 00:22:29.740
you're going after a daydream.

285
00:22:30.700 --> 00:22:33.180
A daydream never comes with difficulty.

286
00:22:33.180 --> 00:22:35.370
It's just a little fantasy that's in your mind,

287
00:22:35.370 --> 00:22:36.600
"Oh, someday I'd like that to happen."

288
00:22:36.630 --> 00:22:39.620
When it's a vision, if something is there

289
00:22:39.620 --> 00:22:42.810
and between here and there is time and difficulty.

290
00:22:43.050 --> 00:22:45.630
And the only people who get between here and there

291
00:22:46.320 --> 00:22:48.030
are people who are tenacious.

292
00:22:48.060 --> 00:22:51.230
This is the nation of Israel.

293
00:22:51.260 --> 00:22:52.470
This is why vision doesn't come true.

294
00:22:52.470 --> 00:22:53.460
We're not tenacious enough.

295
00:22:53.780 --> 00:22:56.010
If I had a crystal ball and I could look at 2020 for you,

296
00:22:56.250 --> 00:22:58.950
I could tell one thing is true for every single person here,

297
00:22:59.280 --> 00:23:01.660
you will have difficult times in 2020.

298
00:23:01.860 --> 00:23:03.520
I promise you the crystal ball would tell me that

299
00:23:03.770 --> 00:23:05.380
you will have difficult times in 2020.

300
00:23:05.700 --> 00:23:07.680
And I could promise every single person here,

301
00:23:07.680 --> 00:23:10.080
whatever you wanted to happen on January 1st.

302
00:23:10.080 --> 00:23:14.370
all hell, maybe literally hell, will stand in the way

303
00:23:14.700 --> 00:23:17.520
of why you felt that you needed to win in

304
00:23:17.520 --> 00:23:23.190
and actually winning because difficulty gets in our way.

305
00:23:23.340 --> 00:23:25.950
Now the Nation of Israel has had difficulty after difficulty.

306
00:23:25.950 --> 00:23:29.310
I talked about last week, I talked about coming out of slavery,

307
00:23:29.310 --> 00:23:31.890
miraculous thing of drowning of chariots

308
00:23:31.890 --> 00:23:35.670
and Egyptians tracking after them and complaining in the wilderness

309
00:23:35.670 --> 00:23:38.490
and God waiting for all the complainers to die and all that stuff.

310
00:23:38.490 --> 00:23:39.390
I can't go into all that right now.

311
00:23:39.420 --> 00:23:40.890
But then there's this Jordan River,

312
00:23:41.130 --> 00:23:43.440
and they're going to go on the other side of this Jordan River

313
00:23:44.270 --> 00:23:45.660
and everything over there is new.

314
00:23:46.110 --> 00:23:49.230
Generally, when things are new, they are hard

315
00:23:49.950 --> 00:23:51.150
because you don't have any muscle memory.

316
00:23:51.540 --> 00:23:52.860
We're just not -- we're not used to it.

317
00:23:53.340 --> 00:23:56.280
Now they're ready to go over to the other side.

318
00:23:56.430 --> 00:23:58.410
Now, it's not just about what God has done for them,

319
00:23:58.410 --> 00:23:59.820
which is getting them out of slavery.

320
00:24:00.120 --> 00:24:04.980
Now it's about what they are going to do under God's guidance.

321
00:24:05.010 --> 00:24:08.210
They're now going to take possession of the promised land.

322
00:24:08.460 --> 00:24:12.030
Let me read a section for you: Joshua 6:2-3:

323
00:24:12.720 --> 00:24:13.880
And the Lord said to Joshua,

324
00:24:13.890 --> 00:24:16.080
this is the leader of the Knights of Israel at this time period.

325
00:24:33.140 --> 00:24:36.720
So God tells him, I'm going to give this to you.

326
00:24:37.370 --> 00:24:39.940
But then he says, and you have to do this: X, Y, Z.

327
00:24:39.940 --> 00:24:42.560
When God gives us something, it very rarely is

328
00:24:42.560 --> 00:24:45.560
the kind of passive receiving like we'd like to think about giving.

329
00:24:45.830 --> 00:24:47.060
He will do that sometimes.

330
00:24:47.420 --> 00:24:49.670
We will sometimes passively receive something from God.

331
00:24:50.030 --> 00:24:52.670
But very frequently He gives us something

332
00:24:52.670 --> 00:24:55.100
and He gives us a vision and He gives us permission.

333
00:24:55.310 --> 00:24:57.950
And now we have to tenaciously go after it.

334
00:24:58.040 --> 00:24:59.510
This is the way it is with the nation of Israel.

335
00:24:59.900 --> 00:25:02.630
They don't just inherit the Promised Land

336
00:25:02.630 --> 00:25:05.930
like some old rich uncle died and dropped it in their lap.

337
00:25:06.470 --> 00:25:09.350
They have to go over and they have to fight for it.

338
00:25:10.040 --> 00:25:10.800
Three big ideas today.

339
00:25:10.910 --> 00:25:14.390
Number one, tenacity demands difficulty.

340
00:25:15.200 --> 00:25:16.480
Tenacity demands difficult.

341
00:25:16.790 --> 00:25:19.610
The very fact that we have this word

342
00:25:19.610 --> 00:25:22.370
in the English language called tenacity

343
00:25:22.370 --> 00:25:24.410
is proof that there is difficulty.

344
00:25:24.980 --> 00:25:26.930
In fact, if there is not difficulty,

345
00:25:27.070 --> 00:25:28.850
there is no need for tenacity.

346
00:25:28.880 --> 00:25:33.290
Tenacity is only there because we are having difficulty.

347
00:25:33.560 --> 00:25:35.960
If you weren't having difficulty, it wouldn't be tenacity.

348
00:25:35.960 --> 00:25:38.300
It was just be something we want to do.

349
00:25:39.620 --> 00:25:41.210
There is a difference between something I want to do

350
00:25:41.210 --> 00:25:43.130
and something I have to be tenacious about.

351
00:25:43.130 --> 00:25:46.010
Tenacity is doing something I don't want to do,

352
00:25:46.040 --> 00:25:49.220
doing something that doesn't have qan immediate payoff as soon as I do it,

353
00:25:49.220 --> 00:25:52.490
doing something that still has doubts attached to it,

354
00:25:52.730 --> 00:25:56.870
doing something that's going to have a delayed time period

355
00:25:56.870 --> 00:25:59.810
until I actually get something out of it.

356
00:26:00.380 --> 00:26:02.000
This is going to be difficult.

357
00:26:02.030 --> 00:26:03.740
Every step of the Nation of Israel is difficult.

358
00:26:03.770 --> 00:26:06.350
Every -- Maybe that's why they're still existing today.

359
00:26:06.860 --> 00:26:09.110
Maybe it's why they're still a world power today

360
00:26:09.110 --> 00:26:10.820
with this itty bitty piece of land

361
00:26:10.820 --> 00:26:12.260
is because they've been forged in difficulty.

362
00:26:12.260 --> 00:26:15.980
I don't know, but they're going to have to go up against

363
00:26:16.070 --> 00:26:18.440
who the previous spies who went in the land,

364
00:26:18.440 --> 00:26:22.580
and they had cold feet, said where there were giants,

365
00:26:22.900 --> 00:26:26.780
said here there was amazing opportunity, but huge, huge people.

366
00:26:26.780 --> 00:26:28.080
And this is where they're going to go.

367
00:26:28.100 --> 00:26:31.490
They're going to go into the nation of the Canaanites.

368
00:26:31.520 --> 00:26:35.750
And there is that their capital city or a major city named Jericho.

369
00:26:35.750 --> 00:26:37.370
And these walls, it's fascinating now.

370
00:26:37.640 --> 00:26:44.120
The walls of Jericho are anywhere from 31 to 42 feet high.

371
00:26:44.720 --> 00:26:46.430
And we know this for a couple reasons.

372
00:26:46.430 --> 00:26:47.960
One, we can look at some things

373
00:26:47.960 --> 00:26:49.670
that are in the Bible talking about this,

374
00:26:49.670 --> 00:26:53.810
and two, we can see what the archaeologists have found.

375
00:26:54.500 --> 00:26:55.520
This stuff blows me away.

376
00:26:55.580 --> 00:26:56.900
See, this is what is so amazing.

377
00:26:57.170 --> 00:27:00.380
The Bible has the audacity again and again and again and again

378
00:27:00.380 --> 00:27:06.770
and again to talk about things that can be verified or not verified.

379
00:27:07.370 --> 00:27:10.130
There's like no ancient spiritual literature at all

380
00:27:10.310 --> 00:27:12.660
where science and archaeology can weigh in and go,

381
00:27:12.680 --> 00:27:13.970
"Oh, there is no science."

382
00:27:13.970 --> 00:27:16.790
No, science and archaeology doesn't justify everything in the Bible.

383
00:27:16.820 --> 00:27:18.070
There's things we still don't understand,

384
00:27:18.080 --> 00:27:20.480
there's things that are not there as empirical proofs.

385
00:27:20.780 --> 00:27:22.790
But this is one of the many, many, many,

386
00:27:22.790 --> 00:27:24.200
many, many, many, many times in the Bible

387
00:27:24.230 --> 00:27:27.050
where people said, "Well, there's no Jericho's.

388
00:27:27.050 --> 00:27:27.060
This is ridiculous.

389
00:27:27.060 --> 00:27:28.640
Oh, we found these walls. I guess there are.

390
00:27:29.330 --> 00:27:30.140
I guess there was."

391
00:27:31.110 --> 00:27:36.870
These walls were keeping giants, very strong people,

392
00:27:36.870 --> 00:27:42.120
men of valor, safe inside and keeping them inside of a fortress.

393
00:27:42.780 --> 00:27:46.710
Joshua sends in a group of people, spies,

394
00:27:46.710 --> 00:27:49.410
to try to find any insiders inside

395
00:27:49.410 --> 00:27:51.090
that could help them get into these walls.

396
00:27:51.430 --> 00:27:52.740
And he finds one.

397
00:27:52.950 --> 00:27:55.740
He finds a prostitute by the name of Rahab,

398
00:27:55.980 --> 00:27:58.410
who decides to tip them off on some key intel.

399
00:27:58.590 --> 00:28:01.380
And she's key in how they were to get in there.

400
00:28:01.380 --> 00:28:03.930
So Joshua says, "When we get in there,

401
00:28:03.930 --> 00:28:06.390
we're gonna make sure we spare Rahab and keep her safe."

402
00:28:06.420 --> 00:28:09.750
They've actually found in the walls, in the ruins.

403
00:28:09.750 --> 00:28:13.430
There's one section of the wall apparently that wasn't destroyed.

404
00:28:13.440 --> 00:28:14.700
And there's a dwelling place there,

405
00:28:14.700 --> 00:28:15.750
but we don't know this for sure.

406
00:28:15.770 --> 00:28:17.850
We don't know, but some people would say,

407
00:28:17.850 --> 00:28:19.550
some archaeologists would go, "Well, who knows?

408
00:28:19.560 --> 00:28:22.590
Maybe this was where Rahab lived because he was supposed be protected.

409
00:28:23.400 --> 00:28:26.340
Don't know for sure, but it's actually things that make a go, hmmm.

410
00:28:27.690 --> 00:28:29.460
Right. Things that make you go hmm.

411
00:28:30.310 --> 00:28:33.810
Book of Joshua 6:17, it says:

412
00:28:43.350 --> 00:28:47.790
That's right, Rahab, the prostitute, a woman of the night,

413
00:28:49.210 --> 00:28:50.620
or maybe a woman of the afternoon

414
00:28:50.620 --> 00:28:51.940
or woman of the morning, too, I don't know.

415
00:28:52.370 --> 00:28:54.430
I don't know when she did her business, but that was her business.

416
00:28:54.460 --> 00:28:58.910
She was a woman who was a prostitute.

417
00:28:59.230 --> 00:29:00.880
Here's the crazy thing about this,

418
00:29:01.510 --> 00:29:03.620
thousands of years later in the book of Hebrews

419
00:29:03.620 --> 00:29:05.110
in the New Testament portion of the Bible.

420
00:29:05.110 --> 00:29:07.140
We're in the Old Testament portion right now.

421
00:29:07.140 --> 00:29:08.500
Thousand of years into the future,

422
00:29:08.500 --> 00:29:12.580
she's listed in Hebrews 11 in what is known as the Hall of Faith.

423
00:29:13.860 --> 00:29:17.100
The Hall of the Spiritual Greats in the Old Testament.

424
00:29:17.460 --> 00:29:19.890
And she's right there alongside a bunch of people

425
00:29:19.890 --> 00:29:21.660
who had a much more sexually pure history.

426
00:29:22.140 --> 00:29:23.850
Rahab is named the Hall of Faith.

427
00:29:23.850 --> 00:29:24.540
You know what this means?

428
00:29:25.800 --> 00:29:30.960
It doesn't matter how awful your 2019 was,

429
00:29:30.960 --> 00:29:33.570
2020 you can be winner, it doesn't matter.

430
00:29:33.720 --> 00:29:36.990
It doesn't matter what your failures were in your past.

431
00:29:37.320 --> 00:29:40.050
God does not categorize you by your failures.

432
00:29:40.560 --> 00:29:43.230
It doesn't matter what you've done in the the past.

433
00:29:43.380 --> 00:29:47.100
What matters is what you start do starting right now and going forward.

434
00:29:47.110 --> 00:29:49.560
Now it might matter in the sense that you might have done

435
00:29:49.560 --> 00:29:52.310
some things back there that are going to restrict your movement

436
00:29:52.310 --> 00:29:54.580
and things that there's gonna be justice to pay.

437
00:29:55.060 --> 00:29:57.780
OK, but there's nothing you're going to do in the past

438
00:29:57.930 --> 00:30:01.050
when you come in relation with God where He's
going to say, "Okay, you, done with you.

439
00:30:01.710 --> 00:30:05.310
I got dealt with you way back when because (indiscernible)"

440
00:30:05.310 --> 00:30:08.460
No. He chooses and works through a prostitute

441
00:30:08.670 --> 00:30:12.750
and He could choose and work through extortioners,

442
00:30:12.750 --> 00:30:13.770
slothful Americans,

443
00:30:14.010 --> 00:30:16.800
people who have broken resolutions again and again,

444
00:30:16.930 --> 00:30:18.390
people who make commitments to God

445
00:30:18.420 --> 00:30:19.920
and don't fulfill those commitments to God.

446
00:30:20.160 --> 00:30:22.080
People who have sorted of sexual pasts.

447
00:30:22.260 --> 00:30:25.050
People who are just a little -- a little white lie

448
00:30:25.050 --> 00:30:27.630
or whatever it is, wherever it is, whatever it is

449
00:30:28.350 --> 00:30:30.720
God wants to use you right now.

450
00:30:30.750 --> 00:30:31.410
He does.

451
00:30:32.100 --> 00:30:34.530
God has a future for you.

452
00:30:34.860 --> 00:30:36.240
There's a will for your life.

453
00:30:37.490 --> 00:30:42.280
You could choose to win and you're winning in the future

454
00:30:42.280 --> 00:30:43.420
has nothing to do with your past,

455
00:30:43.480 --> 00:30:46.630
unless you let your past affect your future.

456
00:30:46.630 --> 00:30:54.040
Rahab had a future and it was in serving God and His people.

457
00:30:54.070 --> 00:30:55.190
That is amazing.

458
00:30:55.220 --> 00:30:55.320
Can I hear an Amen? Could I get an Amen on that?

459
00:30:57.460 --> 00:30:57.620
Amen, huh? Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmmm.

460
00:31:01.900 --> 00:31:04.660
It's good, God is always there for another chance.

461
00:31:05.110 --> 00:31:08.080
So even if 2019 was the sixth year in a row

462
00:31:08.080 --> 00:31:09.670
you didn't get a single resolution done.

463
00:31:09.970 --> 00:31:12.850
Hey, there's 2020 and God's up for a brand new start,

464
00:31:13.510 --> 00:31:17.470
even if you failed on one of your resolutions two days ago.

465
00:31:17.590 --> 00:31:19.210
Whatever. Whatever.

466
00:31:19.660 --> 00:31:20.610
You probably failed,

467
00:31:20.620 --> 00:31:22.650
but you probably didn't have sex with somebody for money.

468
00:31:22.660 --> 00:31:24.220
So even if He got over that,

469
00:31:24.250 --> 00:31:26.080
He can get over you dropping that resolution.

470
00:31:26.080 --> 00:31:28.540
Just start from now, start from scratch.

471
00:31:29.120 --> 00:31:31.490
You know, I don't know, maybe that's is what you did two days ago.

472
00:31:31.540 --> 00:31:32.050
I don't know.

473
00:31:33.550 --> 00:31:34.810
Crossroads has all kinds of people.

474
00:31:34.810 --> 00:31:36.550
I love it. I love that that's the case.

475
00:31:37.090 --> 00:31:42.030
I just -- seriously, one of the tactics that the evil one uses,

476
00:31:42.040 --> 00:31:44.620
there is an evil one that wants to keep you from winning

477
00:31:45.040 --> 00:31:47.500
is he wants you to believe that you're disqualified.

478
00:31:47.830 --> 00:31:51.070
He wants you to believe that you're not up for the task.

479
00:31:51.100 --> 00:31:53.380
He wants you to believe that God doesn't really care

480
00:31:53.380 --> 00:31:54.490
about your future because of your past.

481
00:31:54.490 --> 00:31:56.860
And it's just not true.

482
00:31:57.460 --> 00:32:00.160
We need a level of difficulty.

483
00:32:00.220 --> 00:32:02.050
We actually need this.

484
00:32:02.680 --> 00:32:07.120
God put into the world the very DNA of difficulty.

485
00:32:07.120 --> 00:32:09.280
Adam and Eve, when they were placed in the garden,

486
00:32:10.000 --> 00:32:11.320
they were to work the garden.

487
00:32:12.160 --> 00:32:15.220
Let me tell you something: Working a garden is difficult.

488
00:32:16.360 --> 00:32:18.330
And they were working a garden and it was difficult

489
00:32:18.340 --> 00:32:20.910
before sin entered the world, before Adam and Eve

490
00:32:20.910 --> 00:32:24.250
ate of the fruit they shouldn't have eaten from difficulty is here.

491
00:32:24.700 --> 00:32:26.800
Do not try to run away from difficulty.

492
00:32:27.520 --> 00:32:29.370
We have to endure it and we have to run through it,

493
00:32:29.370 --> 00:32:30.550
it's being tenacious.

494
00:32:30.580 --> 00:32:33.880
Now, one of the goals I want to win at or I want to be a part of,

495
00:32:33.880 --> 00:32:34.690
and hopefully do too.

496
00:32:34.690 --> 00:32:37.690
We are going to do this in every talk this series.

497
00:32:38.020 --> 00:32:40.000
We're going a little snippet of something

498
00:32:40.000 --> 00:32:41.260
we're hoping to win at as a church.

499
00:32:41.500 --> 00:32:44.770
We have a special that's going to Amazon Prime on January 26.

500
00:32:45.010 --> 00:32:46.120
It's called Phantom Lake.

501
00:32:46.390 --> 00:32:48.760
And it's about people who are trying to win,

502
00:32:48.760 --> 00:32:52.790
overcome certain things in their life and learn new skills.

503
00:32:53.350 --> 00:32:55.540
And we went into this, we did all the casting.

504
00:32:55.540 --> 00:32:57.910
I'm going to show you an eight minute clip of that in just a moment.

505
00:32:58.390 --> 00:33:01.930
When we went into it, we recognized that one of the problems,

506
00:33:02.170 --> 00:33:03.670
one of the problems we were going to have

507
00:33:03.670 --> 00:33:06.790
is every story, every reality series.

508
00:33:06.820 --> 00:33:08.740
And this is, I think, six or seven episodes.

509
00:33:09.130 --> 00:33:11.440
Every good story has to have a villain.

510
00:33:12.800 --> 00:33:14.890
And so we knew for this to be good TV,

511
00:33:14.890 --> 00:33:16.060
we needed a villain, right?

512
00:33:17.650 --> 00:33:20.320
The problem is how do you have open tryouts with people

513
00:33:20.320 --> 00:33:22.420
and knowing, "Okay, who's going to be an idiot here

514
00:33:22.420 --> 00:33:26.440
that we can humiliate in front of the entire nation?

515
00:33:27.150 --> 00:33:27.730
Who is that?"

516
00:33:27.790 --> 00:33:29.770
And I tell you what, if some of you applied,

517
00:33:29.770 --> 00:33:30.620
you would've been great villains, I'm telling you right now.

518
00:33:31.930 --> 00:33:34.540
You would have and I know you're upset you didn't get picked.

519
00:33:34.960 --> 00:33:37.900
It was an act of grace to not pick you, let me tell you.

520
00:33:38.420 --> 00:33:39.460
Because you would have lost.

521
00:33:39.490 --> 00:33:40.750
I would have been all in your grill.

522
00:33:40.750 --> 00:33:41.640
I would have had fun.

523
00:33:41.650 --> 00:33:42.970
You would've been humiliated for the rest of your life.

524
00:33:43.000 --> 00:33:48.820
So anyway, we said, "No, we're not going to get somebody

525
00:33:48.820 --> 00:33:48.830
just to throw them under the bus,

526
00:33:48.830 --> 00:33:48.840
so we're just going to see how it works.

527
00:33:48.880 --> 00:33:51.580
Well, we ended up having a villain.

528
00:33:53.090 --> 00:33:56.000
Some episodes the villain was me, believe it or not.

529
00:33:56.000 --> 00:33:56.390
Me? Yes, me.

530
00:33:57.500 --> 00:34:03.380
But difficulty was the villain again and again and again.

531
00:34:03.900 --> 00:34:06.170
Here is an eight minute clip of one example of

532
00:34:06.170 --> 00:34:09.140
some pieces brought together over the number of episodes

533
00:34:09.140 --> 00:34:13.330
of the kind of difficulty and tenacity that one guy had to go through.

534
00:34:15.220 --> 00:34:16.550
- I wake up every day and I say to God,

535
00:34:16.550 --> 00:34:18.350
"God, what ever you've got going on today, I want to be a part of it."

536
00:34:21.290 --> 00:34:23.280
We're gonna do something really unorthodox

537
00:34:23.280 --> 00:34:26.160
in taking an experienced riders on this trip.

538
00:34:26.400 --> 00:34:27.990
You've got to be in a situation

539
00:34:27.990 --> 00:34:29.220
that's foreign to what you're used to.

540
00:34:29.250 --> 00:34:31.530
New riders are going to be challenged.

541
00:34:32.780 --> 00:34:35.630
I had this feeling that everyone has an adventure that they're on.

542
00:34:35.840 --> 00:34:38.120
I want to see real people in the real world

543
00:34:38.120 --> 00:34:40.090
with real life adventures learn how to conquer them.

544
00:34:40.220 --> 00:34:42.030
That's why I want to do this trip with people who need it.

545
00:34:44.510 --> 00:34:46.520
If we're not in a difficult position,

546
00:34:46.520 --> 00:34:48.560
we don't grow the way we could grow.

547
00:34:48.890 --> 00:34:50.480
I learn when things are difficult.

548
00:34:50.600 --> 00:34:52.340
I learn when I get smacked in the mouth.

549
00:34:52.460 --> 00:34:53.750
I learn when I fall down.

550
00:34:54.050 --> 00:34:56.450
I don't want to fail because I didn't try hard enough.

551
00:34:57.570 --> 00:34:59.400
Some people would say, "Well, you're a pastor,

552
00:34:59.400 --> 00:35:00.780
shouldn't you just be doing Bible studies?"

553
00:35:01.280 --> 00:35:04.650
I'm about making real men and women stronger

554
00:35:04.650 --> 00:35:07.980
and this is a way that I found that does it.

555
00:35:26.590 --> 00:35:29.000
Just when it feels like we're getting some momentum,

556
00:35:29.000 --> 00:35:32.590
we have to pull over again 40 minutes later.

557
00:35:33.220 --> 00:35:35.610
David's bike has a new mechanical issue.

558
00:35:42.250 --> 00:35:44.770
My question is, one, do you tow.

559
00:35:44.980 --> 00:35:48.190
Two, can you come pick this bike up and get me going quickly?

560
00:35:51.930 --> 00:35:53.800
So here's the deal. I'm sorry.

561
00:35:54.240 --> 00:35:54.780
It sucks.

562
00:35:55.520 --> 00:35:55.730
- Yup.

563
00:35:56.620 --> 00:35:56.870
- It sucks up.

564
00:35:56.870 --> 00:36:01.060
Here's what we're going to do, we're gonna get this towed

565
00:36:01.060 --> 00:36:05.350
to a dealer who's going to have a tech stay late at night.

566
00:36:05.890 --> 00:36:09.010
If they have parts in you're going to get to go

567
00:36:09.010 --> 00:36:09.610
and you're going to be rolling.

568
00:36:10.080 --> 00:36:12.090
If they don't, you're going to have to be waiting until Tuesday.

569
00:36:13.880 --> 00:36:16.490
Basically what I'm saying is you're gonna be on your own.

570
00:36:17.000 --> 00:36:17.510
Are you okay with that? - Yeah. I think I have to be.

571
00:36:20.430 --> 00:36:22.530
- Attitude of the Day award right here,

572
00:36:22.560 --> 00:36:24.060
attitude of the day award.

573
00:36:24.570 --> 00:36:25.770
You're going to get to Phantom Lake.

574
00:36:26.460 --> 00:36:26.610
- Yeah.

575
00:36:26.610 --> 00:36:28.740
- He's working his fingers to the bone.

576
00:36:28.740 --> 00:36:31.530
Look at that freakin finger, he worked it to the bone.

577
00:36:31.560 --> 00:36:32.270
Look at that.

578
00:36:32.980 --> 00:36:34.600
Don't raise the middle finger to the camera.

579
00:36:34.810 --> 00:36:36.730
What are you doing? You can't be doing that.

580
00:36:37.870 --> 00:36:39.730
- I definitely love working with my hands.

581
00:36:39.820 --> 00:36:42.100
I ended up putting my hand in the table saw.

582
00:36:43.060 --> 00:36:45.370
One of my friends had told me, actually the friend

583
00:36:45.370 --> 00:36:47.650
that was there the night that it happened, he's like,

584
00:36:47.650 --> 00:36:50.110
"You take on any task that comes to you."

585
00:36:50.110 --> 00:36:53.650
And he's like, "You love figuring things out".

586
00:36:53.650 --> 00:36:55.120
He's like, "You're gonna figure this out."

587
00:36:55.840 --> 00:36:59.650
- This is definitely the most hectic first day I've ever had.

588
00:37:00.370 --> 00:37:04.000
David is -- He's gonna get the tow truck by himself.

589
00:37:04.600 --> 00:37:05.800
He's gonna go up the dealer.

590
00:37:06.130 --> 00:37:07.090
They're waiting for him.

591
00:37:07.420 --> 00:37:08.980
They're going to get his bike going as soon as he can.

592
00:37:09.040 --> 00:37:10.720
He's gonna catch up to us whenever he can.

593
00:37:10.990 --> 00:37:13.110
We're gonna make our way towards Telluride.

594
00:37:13.180 --> 00:37:14.640
We're still gonna try to get close there.

595
00:37:14.650 --> 00:37:16.710
I doubt we're gonna get all the way to Telluride.

596
00:37:17.680 --> 00:37:20.410
So when I feel like it's unsafe for us to drive anymore,

597
00:37:20.410 --> 00:37:23.760
tell me, we're going to get a hotel as far as we get.

598
00:37:24.430 --> 00:37:25.770
If they don't have anything in the hotel,

599
00:37:26.050 --> 00:37:27.180
we're going to pitch tents in the parking lot.

600
00:37:31.370 --> 00:37:33.740
- I fixed it. Something else broke, I fixed it.

601
00:37:34.460 --> 00:37:35.870
Now something else has gone wrong.

602
00:37:36.140 --> 00:37:38.450
And I'm stuck outside a highway while you guys

603
00:37:39.230 --> 00:37:41.060
keep going out with the rest of them, keep going on.

604
00:37:45.230 --> 00:37:47.710
I just want you guys to see what I'm about to write into.

605
00:37:47.910 --> 00:37:51.780
This is separating me from my group, but I'm going for it.

606
00:38:05.680 --> 00:38:09.430
- David rejoins the group after 10 hours of riding solo.

607
00:38:11.590 --> 00:38:12.480
- That was awesome.

608
00:38:18.240 --> 00:38:18.930
- Yes, welcome back, man.

609
00:38:22.570 --> 00:38:23.890
- Eight hours?

610
00:38:23.890 --> 00:38:24.550
- Nine.

611
00:38:38.490 --> 00:38:40.860
- So that's what you moved it earlier and it seemed to work all right?

612
00:38:41.080 --> 00:38:43.130
- Yeah, I mean, I got, what? 10 miles out of it?

613
00:38:44.110 --> 00:38:47.620
But I mean, even just going from there up to here, 20 feet.

614
00:38:47.650 --> 00:38:49.490
I mean, it just started cutting out again.

615
00:38:50.670 --> 00:38:52.510
- So it runs fine sitting here.

616
00:38:52.990 --> 00:38:53.310
- Yes.

617
00:38:53.890 --> 00:38:54.670
- So what the heck?

618
00:38:55.490 --> 00:38:55.810
- I don't know.

619
00:38:56.350 --> 00:38:57.400
TOME: David's got a bike issue.

620
00:38:57.430 --> 00:38:58.570
He's not going to be able to continue.

621
00:38:59.140 --> 00:39:01.120
He's a very handy guy, so he's going to take stuff apart,

622
00:39:01.120 --> 00:39:02.860
see if he can figure out what's going on.

623
00:39:03.410 --> 00:39:04.180
He'll catch up with us.

624
00:39:06.400 --> 00:39:07.960
- I feel pretty helpless at this point,

625
00:39:07.960 --> 00:39:11.530
like I'm going to do what I can with the bike,

626
00:39:13.350 --> 00:39:14.120
but I don't know.

627
00:39:14.140 --> 00:39:15.930
I don't know this bike, I don't know it well enough.

628
00:39:19.760 --> 00:39:22.460
I'm pretty handy, but I'm not a master mechanic.

629
00:39:26.740 --> 00:39:29.330
I don't understand why this bike was doing that.

630
00:39:29.480 --> 00:39:31.420
I think I know what was wrong, but I don't fully know.

631
00:39:31.430 --> 00:39:34.130
So it's working now and I think it's has to do with heat.

632
00:39:34.190 --> 00:39:36.390
But what matters is, is that, you know,

633
00:39:36.430 --> 00:39:38.860
I just spent time with God last night talking about it.

634
00:39:39.220 --> 00:39:40.780
I said, "I'm sorry that I didn't trust you, God,

635
00:39:41.260 --> 00:39:43.270
in my moment of frustration."

636
00:39:43.270 --> 00:39:45.820
And I was weak and I didn't trust Him.

637
00:39:45.850 --> 00:39:49.030
So one way or another, I'm going on this trip

638
00:39:49.060 --> 00:39:50.860
and I know God wants me here

639
00:39:50.860 --> 00:39:52.480
and I'm just going to accept things as they come.

640
00:39:53.290 --> 00:39:54.190
All right. I'm coming for you. ZACK! HEY-O, ZACK!

641
00:40:01.710 --> 00:40:04.000
- David's here.

642
00:40:04.000 --> 00:40:04.880
What?

643
00:40:10.700 --> 00:40:10.880
- John, Thomas, Zack!

644
00:40:10.880 --> 00:40:12.080
TOME: Gett in the left part of the exit,

645
00:40:12.080 --> 00:40:13.460
when you come off the exit, get in the left lane.

646
00:40:15.680 --> 00:40:17.330
Go get gas and then come back here.

647
00:40:17.950 --> 00:40:19.430
David's got a clutch adjustment issue.

648
00:40:19.430 --> 00:40:21.020
So, you guys go get gas then come back here.

649
00:40:21.050 --> 00:40:21.390
OK?

650
00:40:23.150 --> 00:40:29.300
Surprise, surprise, David has another bike issue.

651
00:40:29.330 --> 00:40:32.510
I'm starting to wonder if the problem is in David

652
00:40:32.960 --> 00:40:34.280
versus David's bike.

653
00:40:34.610 --> 00:40:37.310
- You can put both nuts on top.

654
00:40:37.310 --> 00:40:38.590
I had a couple of 13s somewhere.

655
00:40:39.430 --> 00:40:42.830
What in the world?

656
00:40:42.830 --> 00:40:44.190
I had --

657
00:40:44.190 --> 00:40:45.240
I put both nuts on it,

658
00:40:46.320 --> 00:40:48.390
they said you could put both nuts on top.

659
00:40:50.550 --> 00:40:52.980
Like I adjusted it properly, like I know what I'm doing.

660
00:40:53.730 --> 00:40:55.380
I did this right. Like, what's going on?

661
00:40:58.100 --> 00:40:59.010
TOME: You put the recluse in?

662
00:40:59.350 --> 00:41:02.700
- Yeah.

663
00:41:02.700 --> 00:41:07.310
Well, we found the culprit, this clutch basket nut.

664
00:41:07.350 --> 00:41:12.060
I don't have the right size tool, so my buddy Ron here

665
00:41:12.410 --> 00:41:15.870
was so graciously found me tool after to have the tool,

666
00:41:17.760 --> 00:41:18.960
he's come through in a pinch.

667
00:41:19.700 --> 00:41:22.140
I would say that his help is clutch.

668
00:41:26.270 --> 00:41:31.380
- We have near success, closing up,

669
00:41:31.380 --> 00:41:31.390
closing up the bike to see if it works

670
00:41:34.340 --> 00:41:35.760
- In shop terms, mechanical things.

671
00:41:35.950 --> 00:41:40.130
- Yeah. I mean, I have a lot to contribute to what's happening here.

672
00:41:41.810 --> 00:41:43.040
David, is it working?

673
00:41:43.310 --> 00:41:44.030
How's it feel?

674
00:41:44.430 --> 00:41:46.460
- It feels good. It's working like it's supposed to.

675
00:41:46.490 --> 00:41:47.690
Now I know what's wrong with that.

676
00:41:49.760 --> 00:41:50.900
I still need to get the right tool,

677
00:41:50.930 --> 00:41:53.150
but we'll deal with that tomorrow.

678
00:41:53.600 --> 00:41:56.900
- Make no mistake about it, this trip is a bear.

679
00:41:57.620 --> 00:41:59.210
I'm looking forward to getting to Phantom Lake

680
00:41:59.210 --> 00:42:00.800
and I'm looking forward to being done.

681
00:42:10.760 --> 00:42:11.050
[applause]

682
00:42:11.050 --> 00:42:13.510
Every day I would have in the midst of difficulty,

683
00:42:13.540 --> 00:42:14.430
that's just some of the difficulties.

684
00:42:14.500 --> 00:42:16.840
I mean, every -- it was just -- it was a grind.

685
00:42:17.430 --> 00:42:20.560
I'd have people on the crew coming to me on the side and go,

686
00:42:20.560 --> 00:42:21.730
"Man, we're really under attack."

687
00:42:22.190 --> 00:42:25.080
And I'd say, "Why is it whenever something is difficult,

688
00:42:25.090 --> 00:42:25.990
Satan gets the credit?

689
00:42:27.020 --> 00:42:28.240
What, what, what? Why is that?"

690
00:42:28.690 --> 00:42:29.810
I said, "Let me tell you something.

691
00:42:29.830 --> 00:42:32.730
This makes for great TV, all the difficulty.

692
00:42:32.770 --> 00:42:38.290
And nobody is, as far as we know, like long term permanent injured."

693
00:42:38.440 --> 00:42:41.200
But that's where we are, un-tenacious people,

694
00:42:41.200 --> 00:42:43.750
as soon as something goes wrong, we go, "Oh, something's wrong."

695
00:42:43.780 --> 00:42:46.000
No, it's what part of winning.

696
00:42:46.720 --> 00:42:50.920
To win, we have to go against things that are pushing on us.

697
00:42:51.220 --> 00:42:53.020
We have to learn to be tenacious.

698
00:42:53.050 --> 00:42:54.770
This is the way it works.

699
00:42:54.790 --> 00:42:56.890
It's always worked that way.

700
00:42:56.890 --> 00:43:00.040
Luke 21:19, Jesus says:

701
00:43:04.030 --> 00:43:09.040
Don't retreat, stand firm, that's in the New International Version.

702
00:43:09.490 --> 00:43:12.250
In the ESV, the English Standard Version, it says:

703
00:43:18.730 --> 00:43:20.780
Difficulty. Keep going.

704
00:43:22.150 --> 00:43:22.900
Keep pushing.

705
00:43:24.090 --> 00:43:25.510
The second thing that needs to happen with tenacity

706
00:43:25.510 --> 00:43:28.390
is tenacity stacks the small wins.

707
00:43:29.750 --> 00:43:32.360
Tenacity looks at the small wins and stacks them up

708
00:43:32.420 --> 00:43:34.550
and embraces the small wins.

709
00:43:35.570 --> 00:43:37.750
Last week in the NFL playoff games,

710
00:43:37.750 --> 00:43:39.800
who watched any playoff games from last week?

711
00:43:39.800 --> 00:43:40.010
Yeah.

712
00:43:40.850 --> 00:43:43.820
Tom Brady's final pass of the season.

713
00:43:43.820 --> 00:43:46.700
We wondered at that time if it was the final pass of his career.

714
00:43:47.000 --> 00:43:48.210
It was a pick six, right?

715
00:43:48.860 --> 00:43:51.740
And Chuck said to me, "There's no way he's retiring.

716
00:43:51.740 --> 00:43:54.950
No way Tom Brady is going to go down

717
00:43:54.950 --> 00:43:56.610
and his last pass is a pick six.

718
00:43:57.230 --> 00:43:57.600
No way.

719
00:43:57.620 --> 00:43:58.730
Of course, he's gonna stick around."

720
00:43:58.940 --> 00:44:02.820
And here's what Tom Brady said a while ago about small wins:

721
00:44:19.010 --> 00:44:24.460
If you had a weight loss goal, did you lose 30 pounds last week?

722
00:44:24.580 --> 00:44:29.290
No, but hopefully you said, "Hey, I got my 3 one mile walks in."

723
00:44:30.190 --> 00:44:30.940
That's a win.

724
00:44:31.300 --> 00:44:32.380
If you had a goal to write a book

725
00:44:32.410 --> 00:44:33.550
did you finish your book last week?

726
00:44:33.580 --> 00:44:38.050
No, but hopefully said, "Hey, I had writer's block

727
00:44:38.050 --> 00:44:40.030
at least for a half an hour because I was trying."

728
00:44:41.200 --> 00:44:45.220
Whatever was last week, if you wanted intimacy

729
00:44:45.220 --> 00:44:48.010
with somebody in your life, did it just pop up last week?

730
00:44:48.760 --> 00:44:52.180
Maybe, probably not, but hopefully you had

731
00:44:52.180 --> 00:44:56.350
one more substantive conversation with the person last week.

732
00:44:56.650 --> 00:44:58.470
I could go on and on and on and on and on.

733
00:44:58.480 --> 00:45:01.760
Friends, if it's a true vision we want to win in,

734
00:45:01.760 --> 00:45:03.850
it's not going to come together in January

735
00:45:03.850 --> 00:45:05.230
or maybe not even February.

736
00:45:05.950 --> 00:45:09.130
So God's looking to see if we're going to be tenacious.

737
00:45:09.550 --> 00:45:10.820
He's going to see how long it's going to take.

738
00:45:10.860 --> 00:45:13.510
Now, I had a small win this week.

739
00:45:13.510 --> 00:45:16.560
One of my things I want to win in this year is

740
00:45:16.610 --> 00:45:19.540
I would like a 100,000 followers on social media.

741
00:45:20.140 --> 00:45:22.240
I would like 100,000 followers on social media because

742
00:45:22.240 --> 00:45:25.510
I would like to positively and spiritually influence people,

743
00:45:25.690 --> 00:45:27.580
as many people as I possibly can.

744
00:45:27.610 --> 00:45:29.260
Sometimes that's through stupid things,

745
00:45:29.260 --> 00:45:30.100
earning the right to be heard.

746
00:45:30.130 --> 00:45:32.320
Sometimes that's through scriptural insight

747
00:45:32.320 --> 00:45:33.400
or some such thing like that.

748
00:45:33.520 --> 00:45:36.520
I'm nowhere near that goal, by the way.

749
00:45:36.520 --> 00:45:42.210
I think I've grown, I don't know, 600 people, 500 people.

750
00:45:42.210 --> 00:45:43.700
That's a long way off from 100,000, right?

751
00:45:43.730 --> 00:45:45.420
But I felt like I had wins this last week.

752
00:45:45.750 --> 00:45:47.940
A part of how I'm trying to build into people

753
00:45:47.940 --> 00:45:49.410
outside of a context like a stage is

754
00:45:49.410 --> 00:45:51.390
a podcast I have called The Aggressive Life.

755
00:45:51.780 --> 00:45:55.080
And I worked for a couple weeks lining up killer, killer guests,

756
00:45:55.110 --> 00:45:56.760
like killer killer guests.

757
00:45:56.760 --> 00:45:58.920
And I spent two days in Nashville this last week.

758
00:45:59.130 --> 00:46:01.470
I bundled them all there down there recording.

759
00:46:01.490 --> 00:46:04.440
I tell you what, it was a lot of work.

760
00:46:04.760 --> 00:46:06.810
And I want to -- I don't want to name drop,

761
00:46:06.810 --> 00:46:07.590
but I'm going to.

762
00:46:07.610 --> 00:46:08.730
I'll tell you why I am.

763
00:46:10.610 --> 00:46:12.890
Kathie Lee Gifford, Mike Fisher,

764
00:46:13.280 --> 00:46:15.770
MMA guy Michael Chandler,

765
00:46:17.420 --> 00:46:19.190
Brian "Head" Welch from Korn,

766
00:46:20.300 --> 00:46:23.000
another politician, just really, really crazy.

767
00:46:23.060 --> 00:46:25.850
And the thing is, the only reason to name drop like that

768
00:46:25.850 --> 00:46:28.640
is to say this: I couldn't just line those people up

769
00:46:28.640 --> 00:46:31.310
over two days just by praying about it.

770
00:46:32.150 --> 00:46:34.080
It was a long time of hard work.

771
00:46:34.250 --> 00:46:36.760
And when I got all of them saying, yes,

772
00:46:36.760 --> 00:46:38.450
it's like, "Oh, I got a win. Woo! Wonderful."

773
00:46:39.050 --> 00:46:40.880
And then when I actually got them in the room,

774
00:46:40.880 --> 00:46:43.160
we actually finished recording, "Woo, I got a win."

775
00:46:43.280 --> 00:46:44.390
And I got one that was done.

776
00:46:44.420 --> 00:46:45.280
And I said, "I hope this next one."

777
00:46:45.710 --> 00:46:47.060
And each time was like, "Oh, yeah.

778
00:46:47.270 --> 00:46:47.480
Good."

779
00:46:48.360 --> 00:46:50.440
No episode is released. No new followers.

780
00:46:50.450 --> 00:46:53.150
No one's even helped, but I got a win.

781
00:46:53.750 --> 00:46:55.120
I had some great conversations with people

782
00:46:55.140 --> 00:46:56.540
that are going to be incredibly helpful.

783
00:46:56.750 --> 00:46:58.730
You have to know what are the small things you're going to do

784
00:46:58.990 --> 00:47:01.370
and you as a tenacious person have to learn

785
00:47:01.370 --> 00:47:02.310
to take gratification in small things.

786
00:47:03.170 --> 00:47:05.930
My child listened to me one time this week, woo.

787
00:47:05.930 --> 00:47:06.100
[laughter]

788
00:47:09.470 --> 00:47:11.000
It's a small win, it's a good win.

789
00:47:11.240 --> 00:47:15.620
Now Joshua gives the Nation of Israel these very small wins

790
00:47:15.620 --> 00:47:18.520
that they're to do as they go against Jericho.

791
00:47:18.620 --> 00:47:20.780
Here's where it says in Joshua 6:3:

792
00:47:50.150 --> 00:47:54.800
So he gives some very, very clear directions here,

793
00:47:55.100 --> 00:47:57.500
very clear things that before they have

794
00:47:57.500 --> 00:48:02.060
to actually subdue anybody physically when they get into the city,

795
00:48:02.180 --> 00:48:03.980
before the walls come down,

796
00:48:04.160 --> 00:48:07.010
which I'm sure none of them are believing that's going to happen.

797
00:48:07.160 --> 00:48:08.420
But before all this stuff happens,

798
00:48:08.660 --> 00:48:12.110
they've got seven days of things that they can do

799
00:48:12.110 --> 00:48:14.030
that every day they're like, "Oh, that was a win.

800
00:48:14.870 --> 00:48:15.920
That was a win. All right.

801
00:48:15.950 --> 00:48:16.970
We did that one today.

802
00:48:17.190 --> 00:48:20.120
That was good. I worked on that today."

803
00:48:21.040 --> 00:48:24.130
The last thing about tenacity is

804
00:48:24.130 --> 00:48:26.050
tenacity about the fundamentals.

805
00:48:26.080 --> 00:48:29.750
Tenacity keeps the fundamentals fundamental.

806
00:48:30.710 --> 00:48:31.690
The fundamentals are fundamental.

807
00:48:32.050 --> 00:48:37.020
We don't win by having our lives go viral.

808
00:48:37.470 --> 00:48:39.300
There's no overnight success.

809
00:48:39.600 --> 00:48:41.340
It's an overnight success because

810
00:48:41.340 --> 00:48:42.900
you just found about somebody over the night,

811
00:48:42.930 --> 00:48:45.120
but they've been working for years and maybe decades

812
00:48:45.330 --> 00:48:47.610
to where you could find them out overnight.

813
00:48:48.480 --> 00:48:51.420
It's the fundamentals, the fundamentals of parenting.

814
00:48:51.690 --> 00:48:53.080
The fundamentals of friendship.

815
00:48:53.280 --> 00:48:54.660
The fundamentals of dating.

816
00:48:54.870 --> 00:48:56.250
The fundamentals of marriage.

817
00:48:56.460 --> 00:48:58.050
The fundamentals of finance.

818
00:48:58.230 --> 00:49:00.930
The fundamentals of taking care of yourself physically.

819
00:49:00.930 --> 00:49:03.000
The fund-- always the fundamentals.

820
00:49:03.280 --> 00:49:04.710
And we try to know what those are

821
00:49:04.950 --> 00:49:07.560
and build them one little thing at a time.

822
00:49:08.400 --> 00:49:12.120
We're going into a small group or group season here at Crossroads

823
00:49:12.120 --> 00:49:13.340
where it's a fundamental.

824
00:49:13.410 --> 00:49:16.260
If you want to grow with God and you want support,

825
00:49:16.500 --> 00:49:19.920
you need to be in people's lives and them in your life.

826
00:49:20.040 --> 00:49:22.320
The Nation of Israel was going to be a group

827
00:49:22.320 --> 00:49:23.910
going around Jericho.

828
00:49:24.270 --> 00:49:27.090
And that's why we're getting ready for new season to get in groups.

829
00:49:27.090 --> 00:49:28.910
So I hope we're going to get the right leaders

830
00:49:29.100 --> 00:49:30.480
and I just hope you're thinking to yourself,

831
00:49:30.690 --> 00:49:32.190
"This isn't a churchy thing.

832
00:49:32.610 --> 00:49:35.250
This is a me being equipped to be tenacious thing."

833
00:49:35.460 --> 00:49:37.860
It is critical for that.

834
00:49:38.460 --> 00:49:40.310
The fundamentals for these people are this:

835
00:49:41.070 --> 00:49:43.010
armed men are going to go ahead.

836
00:49:43.020 --> 00:49:44.730
They're gonna take laps around the city.

837
00:49:45.060 --> 00:49:46.380
They're going to have armed men.

838
00:49:46.620 --> 00:49:48.020
And then behind the armed men,

839
00:49:48.090 --> 00:49:50.070
they're going to have seven priests.

840
00:49:50.220 --> 00:49:51.660
And then behind the priests,

841
00:49:51.810 --> 00:49:53.430
they're going to have the Ark of the Covenant,

842
00:49:53.430 --> 00:49:54.720
which is where they store the Ten Commandments.

843
00:49:54.960 --> 00:49:58.650
And then behind them is going to be the rear guard,

844
00:49:58.980 --> 00:50:00.780
more armed people behind.

845
00:50:00.960 --> 00:50:02.820
And so this whole thing and they're coming out

846
00:50:02.820 --> 00:50:04.050
and these guys are taking these horns going [sound effect].

847
00:50:06.880 --> 00:50:07.790
They're kind of going around [sound effect].

848
00:50:09.370 --> 00:50:10.600
They're looking like idiots. Right?

849
00:50:10.600 --> 00:50:11.370
[sound effect]

850
00:50:11.870 --> 00:50:13.830
You know the people inside Jericho are going,

851
00:50:13.830 --> 00:50:15.840
"What in the world are those people doing?"

852
00:50:16.350 --> 00:50:19.320
[sound effect] They're just going around.

853
00:50:19.500 --> 00:50:22.920
And they would do one lap a day for six days.

854
00:50:23.190 --> 00:50:25.200
They go one lap a day for six days.

855
00:50:26.010 --> 00:50:29.160
I don't know exactly why God had them do this.

856
00:50:30.770 --> 00:50:34.160
I do know one thing, I do know when they got done that day,

857
00:50:34.160 --> 00:50:36.200
they went, "OK, we got somewhere today.

858
00:50:37.340 --> 00:50:39.290
We did something. I was supposed to do that today

859
00:50:39.560 --> 00:50:41.720
and we had the right formation and we did it.

860
00:50:41.840 --> 00:50:42.260
OK.

861
00:50:42.350 --> 00:50:44.550
I don't know exactly what's gonna happen tomorrow, but we did it."

862
00:50:44.750 --> 00:50:47.380
They were getting reps and they were doing the fundamentals.

863
00:50:47.570 --> 00:50:50.360
They were honoring the voice of God who is telling them

864
00:50:50.360 --> 00:50:53.240
to do what He was telling them to do.

865
00:50:54.200 --> 00:50:56.780
And then what do you know? The last day.

866
00:50:57.170 --> 00:50:58.140
The last day.

867
00:50:58.160 --> 00:50:59.540
Day seven comes.

868
00:50:59.580 --> 00:51:02.090
Let me just read for you, Joshua 6:15-20:

869
00:51:29.240 --> 00:51:29.250
[Crumblin' Down: John Mellencamp}

870
00:51:35.460 --> 00:51:37.690
Come tumbling, tumbling,

871
00:51:37.690 --> 00:51:41.240
and the walls come tumbling down, doooown.

872
00:51:45.480 --> 00:51:47.980
John Cougar Mellencamp, God bless America.

873
00:51:47.980 --> 00:51:48.450
[cheers]

874
00:51:49.860 --> 00:51:53.250
Yeah, walls come tumbling down.

875
00:51:55.170 --> 00:51:57.580
This story has impacted my life, it has impacted your life.

876
00:51:57.630 --> 00:51:58.980
You might have heard this story before.

877
00:51:59.040 --> 00:52:00.440
You might not have heard the story before.

878
00:52:00.450 --> 00:52:03.150
I'm going to tell it again, because it's worthy of being told.

879
00:52:04.480 --> 00:52:11.010
We did the fundamentals of this story 15, 16 years ago,

880
00:52:11.010 --> 00:52:15.090
right where I'm standing right here on stage,

881
00:52:15.090 --> 00:52:19.530
this was a parking lot outside of a thing called HQ Warehouse.

882
00:52:20.460 --> 00:52:21.600
And this is the parking lot.

883
00:52:22.060 --> 00:52:23.790
We had 20 people who were a part of Crossroads

884
00:52:24.390 --> 00:52:28.890
who were meeting as a prayer group who were part of Crossroads,

885
00:52:29.250 --> 00:52:30.990
because the next day we were going to be going

886
00:52:30.990 --> 00:52:35.610
to Wall Street in New York City to bid on a piece of property

887
00:52:35.610 --> 00:52:40.800
that was 17 acres and 100,000 square foot under roof.

888
00:52:41.520 --> 00:52:43.290
And we were outmanned.

889
00:52:43.320 --> 00:52:44.700
We were outgunned by the Giants,

890
00:52:44.730 --> 00:52:47.100
because we know the giants of Lowe's and Home Depot

891
00:52:47.330 --> 00:52:51.240
and other developers, they were swooping in at this location.

892
00:52:51.240 --> 00:52:55.650
It was two levels beneath street level, literally on Wall Street,

893
00:52:56.250 --> 00:52:59.890
to buy a pieces of property like this all over the country:

894
00:52:59.910 --> 00:53:02.070
Hechinger, Home Depot, excuse me,

895
00:53:02.070 --> 00:53:05.070
Hechinger, Builder Square, HQ, same parent company.

896
00:53:05.790 --> 00:53:08.460
And we knew that we were outgunned and outmanned,

897
00:53:08.460 --> 00:53:10.140
similar to how the Nation of Israel might have said.

898
00:53:10.470 --> 00:53:13.530
And I guess I was talking about this with my kids

899
00:53:13.900 --> 00:53:16.440
at some point earlier, my oldest daughter can remember this,

900
00:53:16.440 --> 00:53:17.960
I guess, because we're praying.

901
00:53:17.980 --> 00:53:19.830
And it was very weird for me, but when you're desperate,

902
00:53:19.830 --> 00:53:21.630
you do desperate things like hold hands to pray.

903
00:53:21.900 --> 00:53:24.000
So I'm like we're holding hands and praying.

904
00:53:24.000 --> 00:53:26.280
And I probably held hands to pray

905
00:53:26.280 --> 00:53:28.010
maybe like three times the last 15 years.

906
00:53:28.130 --> 00:53:29.210
This is one of them, right?

907
00:53:29.440 --> 00:53:33.450
We're doing that? And all of the sudden my daughter goes,

908
00:53:33.450 --> 00:53:33.460
"Dad. Dad." I looked at her, "Yeah, honey."

909
00:53:36.850 --> 00:53:40.120
"Why don't we match around the city seven times

910
00:53:40.120 --> 00:53:42.850
just like Joshua and the Nation of Israel did?"

911
00:53:42.870 --> 00:53:45.450
Now, whenever an idea is a good idea

912
00:53:45.450 --> 00:53:47.580
and it comes from your kid, then it's always your idea.

913
00:53:47.610 --> 00:53:49.470
So I said, "That's a good idea."

914
00:53:49.590 --> 00:53:50.900
"Folks, Let me tell you what we're going to do.

915
00:53:51.570 --> 00:53:55.120
We're going to march around this building seven times.

916
00:53:55.120 --> 00:53:56.460
And just like that seventh day,

917
00:53:56.460 --> 00:53:57.670
they were silent until the end.

918
00:53:57.750 --> 00:53:59.010
We're going to march around in silence.

919
00:53:59.280 --> 00:54:02.130
We're going to pray that God blinds and confuses our enemies,"

920
00:54:02.160 --> 00:54:04.320
because that's what that's what ended up happening

921
00:54:04.320 --> 00:54:06.090
in the story, God blinded and confused their enemies.

922
00:54:06.090 --> 00:54:08.610
So, I'm like, "Okay." So we take off, right?

923
00:54:09.180 --> 00:54:10.230
We're walking around.

924
00:54:10.250 --> 00:54:10.780
We're walking.

925
00:54:10.950 --> 00:54:18.180
It's interesting that the area inside of the Jericho walls

926
00:54:18.630 --> 00:54:23.220
are about the size of a 100,000 square foot building,

927
00:54:23.220 --> 00:54:25.020
along with a garden center,

928
00:54:25.260 --> 00:54:27.900
along with a little driveway on the other edge of it.

929
00:54:28.140 --> 00:54:30.420
It's about -- it's really about that size.

930
00:54:31.110 --> 00:54:33.030
And as we're walking this around, we start off,

931
00:54:33.030 --> 00:54:35.930
we're all excited, we're praying and we're --

932
00:54:36.660 --> 00:54:39.270
Now, I get around two times and I got these two little kids.

933
00:54:39.300 --> 00:54:40.740
I can't remember exactly what they were,

934
00:54:40.740 --> 00:54:43.290
like I don't know, 8 and 6 or something like that.

935
00:54:43.320 --> 00:54:44.970
And they're tired after two times.

936
00:54:45.180 --> 00:54:46.740
I've got one of them my shoulders.

937
00:54:46.920 --> 00:54:48.270
I'm carrying another one.

938
00:54:48.540 --> 00:54:50.370
And I'm really struggling with back troubles at this time.

939
00:54:50.370 --> 00:54:52.530
And I'm just going, "Oh, man, I'm hurting and I'm dying."

940
00:54:52.800 --> 00:54:55.200
I look in front of me, one of the guys, Marcus is his name.

941
00:54:55.200 --> 00:54:56.840
He's in the front. He came from work.

942
00:54:57.060 --> 00:54:58.140
No one came for a hike.

943
00:54:58.170 --> 00:54:59.160
People came from work.

944
00:54:59.580 --> 00:55:02.540
He's got these -- He's got these khaki slacks on

945
00:55:03.420 --> 00:55:06.420
and penny loafer shoes and I'm watching him.

946
00:55:06.460 --> 00:55:10.260
And as we were going on, we kept cutting corners.

947
00:55:10.290 --> 00:55:12.990
We kept trying to get closer and closer.

948
00:55:12.990 --> 00:55:15.690
So we were no longer going over on the driveway.

949
00:55:15.900 --> 00:55:19.740
We were now walking in the deep weeds

950
00:55:19.740 --> 00:55:22.530
right beside the building to make it a shorter walks.

951
00:55:22.530 --> 00:55:24.630
So I'm watching. I'm watching Marcus go through

952
00:55:24.630 --> 00:55:25.720
and all the others going through.

953
00:55:25.730 --> 00:55:27.180
I'm going, "All right, this is --

954
00:55:27.180 --> 00:55:28.530
we're like three times through, I'm like, all right.

955
00:55:28.590 --> 00:55:30.150
That's good enough. That's good.

956
00:55:30.420 --> 00:55:31.740
People understand.

957
00:55:31.770 --> 00:55:32.820
That's good."

958
00:55:33.130 --> 00:55:35.970
And then God spoke to me.

959
00:55:36.400 --> 00:55:38.400
Now, I said last week, when God speaks to me

960
00:55:38.940 --> 00:55:41.160
it's an idea that comes out of nowhere

961
00:55:41.160 --> 00:55:43.260
that I would not have thought on my own

962
00:55:43.490 --> 00:55:45.120
and I think Jesus would approve of.

963
00:55:46.020 --> 00:55:49.310
And it basically is this: Brian, you want a miracle,

964
00:55:50.000 --> 00:55:52.910
but you don't want to walk seven times around a building.

965
00:55:53.690 --> 00:55:58.070
To use today's verbiage: You can't be tenacious enough

966
00:55:58.070 --> 00:56:00.920
to walk seven times around a building, but you want to win.

967
00:56:01.820 --> 00:56:03.260
So all of sudden it got personal.

968
00:56:04.610 --> 00:56:06.680
So we're going around and we're cutting corners.

969
00:56:06.710 --> 00:56:08.210
And by the way, the building is still open.

970
00:56:08.980 --> 00:56:10.760
And there's automatic doors in the front.

971
00:56:10.790 --> 00:56:13.610
So we're brushing up against the wall,

972
00:56:13.610 --> 00:56:15.050
like our right shoulders are

973
00:56:15.050 --> 00:56:16.020
and we're coming against the wall [sound effect].

974
00:56:17.090 --> 00:56:18.710
We're walking 20 people.

975
00:56:19.830 --> 00:56:21.830
And then about about 20 minutes later

976
00:56:21.830 --> 00:56:24.830
we come back around [sound effect].

977
00:56:24.830 --> 00:56:26.580
And we get done and we're tired.

978
00:56:27.830 --> 00:56:30.260
So, we go and I'm part of the team that goes

979
00:56:30.260 --> 00:56:31.640
and bids the next day on Wall Street.

980
00:56:32.090 --> 00:56:34.400
We win the bid for all the money that we had

981
00:56:34.400 --> 00:56:35.990
to put onto it, $4.6

982
00:56:35.990 --> 00:56:36.530
million.

983
00:56:37.400 --> 00:56:40.250
We come back and we had an offer that was double

984
00:56:40.250 --> 00:56:43.330
what we had -- double of what we had gotten for it.

985
00:56:43.370 --> 00:56:44.570
Within the next couple weeks,

986
00:56:44.570 --> 00:56:47.090
we had three companies offer us two to three times

987
00:56:47.360 --> 00:56:48.770
the price of what we had had.

988
00:56:49.010 --> 00:56:49.400
Why?

989
00:56:49.880 --> 00:56:51.240
Because they missed flights.

990
00:56:51.240 --> 00:56:53.050
They crossed their wires,

991
00:56:53.050 --> 00:56:54.530
partners did, as to who was actually going.

992
00:56:54.830 --> 00:56:59.450
God literally blinded and confused our enemies.

993
00:57:02.550 --> 00:57:04.290
[cheers & applause] That's tenacity.

994
00:57:04.620 --> 00:57:06.530
That is the way it works.

995
00:57:06.540 --> 00:57:09.900
Friends, I'm telling you right now, I'm telling you

996
00:57:10.740 --> 00:57:14.580
you might be on lap two and you got five to go.

997
00:57:15.470 --> 00:57:16.760
Do not stop.

998
00:57:16.850 --> 00:57:17.720
Do not stop.

999
00:57:17.720 --> 00:57:20.540
I'm telling you, I know, your back is cramping.

1000
00:57:20.750 --> 00:57:22.700
I know. Don't stop.

1001
00:57:23.180 --> 00:57:25.770
I know that there is going to be endless reasons to stop.

1002
00:57:25.790 --> 00:57:27.330
Don't stop.

1003
00:57:27.330 --> 00:57:28.260
Keep going.

1004
00:57:28.260 --> 00:57:29.640
I know you look like an idiot.

1005
00:57:29.660 --> 00:57:30.790
We looked like idiots.

1006
00:57:30.790 --> 00:57:33.120
20 of us looking like idiots going around.

1007
00:57:33.350 --> 00:57:35.370
If there's something you're trying to win in,

1008
00:57:35.630 --> 00:57:37.850
you're going to look stupid to people,

1009
00:57:37.850 --> 00:57:40.190
especially people who don't want God.

1010
00:57:40.220 --> 00:57:41.540
I know it. I know.

1011
00:57:41.540 --> 00:57:42.320
I know.

1012
00:57:42.650 --> 00:57:45.070
And I know you can't do it on your own.

1013
00:57:45.080 --> 00:57:47.180
You need to be with others as you go around.

1014
00:57:47.180 --> 00:57:51.290
But I'm telling you, keep putting one foot in front of the other.

1015
00:57:51.440 --> 00:57:54.080
There is a God that has done miracles

1016
00:57:54.080 --> 00:57:56.000
like cause walls to fall down

1017
00:57:56.000 --> 00:57:58.370
as they did with Jericho at the shout.

1018
00:57:59.250 --> 00:58:02.330
And there is a God who will still make walls come down,

1019
00:58:02.330 --> 00:58:04.790
but he wants to know are you going to be tenacious?

1020
00:58:05.240 --> 00:58:07.730
He wants to know are you going to go for a walk?

1021
00:58:08.240 --> 00:58:11.510
He wants to know if you're gonna give Him your plans,

1022
00:58:11.510 --> 00:58:13.220
if you're gonna give Him your --

1023
00:58:13.220 --> 00:58:16.190
He wants to see if you want to take it.

1024
00:58:16.670 --> 00:58:17.990
He's not just gonna give it to you.

1025
00:58:18.020 --> 00:58:19.190
You've got to take it.

1026
00:58:19.930 --> 00:58:23.390
This is the way God works in the lives of the spiritually great,

1027
00:58:23.390 --> 00:58:26.760
and that includes people in here today

1028
00:58:26.790 --> 00:58:29.160
who might've been prostitutes yesterday,

1029
00:58:29.670 --> 00:58:32.010
but are going to be winners tomorrow.

1030
00:58:33.090 --> 00:58:37.830
God, I thank you for Your grace, Your forgiveness,

1031
00:58:38.160 --> 00:58:39.210
and Your goodness.

1032
00:58:41.850 --> 00:58:45.780
Calm the backs that are achey, calm the minds that are doubting.

1033
00:58:47.460 --> 00:58:50.220
We commit to take another lap this week.

1034
00:58:50.700 --> 00:58:53.070
I pray these things according to the name Jesus, Amen.

1035
00:58:54.530 --> 00:58:56.250
All right. Have a great week, we'll see you next weekend.

1036
00:58:57.910 --> 00:59:01.030
- Thanks for joining us for week two of Win This Year.

1037
00:59:01.030 --> 00:59:03.430
You can chat with us on the Crossroads website

1038
00:59:03.430 --> 00:59:05.020
if you want someone to pray for you right now,

1039
00:59:05.290 --> 00:59:06.750
you have questions about Crossroads

1040
00:59:06.760 --> 00:59:08.410
or you want to get more connected this year.

1041
00:59:08.410 --> 00:59:09.880
We'd love to talk with you.

1042
00:59:10.180 --> 00:59:13.390
We'll see you back next week for Week 3 of Win This Year.
Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Weekend Follow Up.

  1. Alright everyone, we are a few weeks into the new decade. Let’s do a quick catch up on any resolutions, goals or areas you want to win in 2020. Each person take 30 seconds and give us a recap of how the new decade is going so far. Be as specific or as vague as you want with this one, but keep it under 30 seconds.

  2. Winners are tenacious, but tenacity demands difficulty. Basically, if we are winning we should expect difficulty along the way. Share about a specific difficulty that you are facing in pursuit of your win in 2020.

  3. Read God’s instructions to Joshua and Israel in Joshua 6:3-5. God gives the army an opportunity to get small wins on the way to their major victory here. Where in your life are you seeing small wins?

  4. In your opinion, what is the relationship between tenacity and doubt? Are they connected? If so, explain how? If not, why do you think they are separate?

  5. Tenacity is about moving forward despite difficulty. To do this we need God’s power and we need each other along the way for support. Go around the group and pray for each person, asking God to give them tenacity to continue the fight towards winning.
