OVERVIEW
Once deemed “the poorest county in America,” many families struggle with poverty and a lack of access to basic necessities. In an area rich in tradition, culture, values, and natural beauty, Martin County is categorized as economically distressed with high concentrations of poverty, unemployment, poor health, and severe educational disparities. Though much progress has been made in the past few decades, there is still a significant gap to bring this area to parity in enjoying the economic and living conditions of the rest of the country.

IMPACT
Serve and support at-risk communities through work at local food pantries. The region has been hit hard by economic hardship, and many families in the area struggle with poverty and lack of access to basic necessities including nutritious food. Work includes food distribution at local pantries, organizing donations, or assisting with other tasks to support these vital community resources. The work varies from construction projects to improving housing and infrastructure or improving community facilities. Additionally, work with local food pantries ensuring that families have access to healthy, nutritious meals.
