Jesus Followed The Rules | Who Was Jesus Really Week 1

You want to be a good person. Me too. Trouble is, the typical route to that is rules: “Do this. Don’t do that. DEFINITELY don’t do that.” We’re drowning in rules…and it isn’t even working. Fortunately, God knew we couldn’t keep up—that’s why he sent Jesus. Today Chuck talks about how Jesus’ ability to follow the rules covers the fact that we can’t.

Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Weekend Follow-Up. The questions below are for the weekend of Jan 16th & 17th.

  1. We tend to lean in one direction or another: Do you consider yourself a rule-follower, rule-breaker, or do you refuse to be boxed in by this question? Share a story of how this has played out in your life.

  2. God gave us 613 commandments for how we relate to God and each other. Obviously this is important to Him. Put yourself in the shoes of the generations of people trying to uphold all of these laws. What would that be like for you?

  3. Read Romans 3:21-25. Through Jesus, we can find genuine freedom. What area in your life do you just seem to keep “falling short” in? (No judgment here, we all have them.)

  4. Read Matthew 5:17-20. Jesus takes the place of every law. Given what you just shared, brainstorm what it looks like to lean on Jesus, and find more freedom. Pick one way you can step into that this week.

  5. Close your time praying for one another or use this one, “God thank you for the gift of Jesus. Thank you for the freedom we have through Him. Help us to receive more of that freedom this week. Amen.
