Why You Need a Guide | The Adventurous Life Week 2

God made us for adventure, but we aren’t meant to go alone. This week, we talk about why you need a guide and how to find one

  • 00:00:00
I'm Brian Tome, Senior Pastor of Crossroads.
  • 00:00:03
    We're in an adventure series.
  • 00:00:04
I'm going to tell you about an adventure we have in our country
  • 00:00:07
that many of us do not like at all,
  • 00:00:09
it's the adventure of getting people of different races
  • 00:00:12
to hear each other's story and work for justice here in our country.
  • 00:00:17
    We have a race problem.
  • 00:00:18
I think it's apparent to all of us.
  • 00:00:20
And I want you to join me and others
  • 00:00:22
to do something about it, specifically, to walk about it,
  • 00:00:27
    to pray about it.
  • 00:00:28
July 11th in the Cincinnati area, churches from all over the region
  • 00:00:32
are going to come together for an event called Unified.
  • 00:00:34
We're going to meet at Sawyer Point.
  • 00:00:35
We're going to walk to Fountain Square and we're going to pray
  • 00:00:39
and we're going to ask for God to intervene.
  • 00:00:42
In the Bible when people walk, powerful things happen.
  • 00:00:45
People walked around the walls of Jerusalem and they fell.
  • 00:00:49
The disciples walked on an adventure to tell people who Jesus was.
  • 00:00:53
I want to invite you to do this.
  • 00:00:54
This will be one week, yYou actually think about this
  • 00:00:57
as the first time Crossroads is physically gathering.
  • 00:01:01
We're going to gather with other churches and we're going to pray.
  • 00:01:03
    It's Saturday, July 11th at 10 a.m.
  • 00:01:07
I want to invite you to be there.
  • 00:01:08
I want to encourage you to be there.
  • 00:01:10
Put your faith out there, push yourself,
  • 00:01:12
get into an environment where you might not have been before.
  • 00:01:14
And who knows, maybe God will show up in your life.
  • 00:01:17
And just maybe as a result of us gathering together,
  • 00:01:20
maybe something starts to change in our country.
  • 00:01:23
    Let's be the church.
  • 00:01:24
Let's back this, our first weekend in physically
  • 00:01:27
being with one another on July 11th on Saturday.
  • 00:01:30
I'll be there. I can't wait to be there.
  • 00:01:32
    I'll see you at Unified.
  • 00:01:35
    - A life with God doesn't have to be boring.
  • 00:01:37
    You were made for adventure.
  • 00:01:39
It can be a pulse pumping, heart pounding life of purpose.
  • 00:01:42
Join us every weekend for 30 minutes of challenge, hope,
  • 00:01:46
and encouragement to guide you on your spiritual adventure.
  • 00:01:50
    - Happy Fourth of July, everyone.
  • 00:01:52
    Welcome to Crossroads Church.
  • 00:01:54
My name is Hannah and I'm so glad you could be with us today
  • 00:01:56
    in our Adventurous Life series.
  • 00:01:59
We believe you were born for adventure
  • 00:02:01
and Crossroads is here to help you find your people,
  • 00:02:04
have fun, crush life, and leave your mark.
  • 00:02:07
Today, our Senior Pastor Brian's Tome is going to talk us
  • 00:02:09
about how a guide can make or break your spiritual journey.
  • 00:02:13
You might notice some changes to our look and feel.
  • 00:02:16
And now this is not just a new logo; this is who we are.
  • 00:02:19
This is the beginning of a new adventure for Crossroads.
  • 00:02:22
We're spiritual outfitters that are here to equip and guide you.
  • 00:02:26
If you want, you can learn more at Crossroads.net/spiritualoutfitters.
  • 00:02:33
    - Adventure and church aren't normally two words that go together,
  • 00:02:37
but at Crossroads, we don't believe in doing church as usual.
  • 00:02:40
In fact, we believe that a life with God
  • 00:02:42
can be a pulse pumping, heart pounding life of purpose.
  • 00:02:45
And our job is to guide you there.
  • 00:02:48
The history making adventurers who explored new worlds,
  • 00:02:51
climbed Mount Everest, fought through jungles,
  • 00:02:53
and crossed deserts didn't get there alone.
  • 00:02:55
They used outfitters to equip them for journeys
  • 00:02:58
full of rough terrain and dangerous obstacles.
  • 00:03:01
An outfitter is both a place where you can get gear
  • 00:03:04
and a person who guide you to your destination.
  • 00:03:07
At Crossroads, we are spiritual outfitters
  • 00:03:09
because as great as those historic adventures were,
  • 00:03:12
they're nothing compared to the spiritual journey
  • 00:03:14
God wants to take you on.
  • 00:03:16
So instead of tents, Yeti's, and pickaxes,
  • 00:03:19
we'll gear you up with spiritual training,
  • 00:03:20
life changing trips, connection to other people on the journey,
  • 00:03:24
motivation, inspiration, and challenge from guides
  • 00:03:27
who have been where you want to go and can help get you there.
  • 00:03:31
We have the tools you'll need,
  • 00:03:32
because the adventure awaiting you is bigger
  • 00:03:34
and more life giving than you can ever imagine.
  • 00:03:39
Crossroads Church, your guide to the Adventurous Life.
  • 00:03:58
    - There's something that those who live adventurous lives
  • 00:04:00
take advantage of that very few people do.
  • 00:04:04
I'm Brian Tome, Senior Pastor at Crossroads.
  • 00:04:07
The thing that they take advantage of is getting guidance.
  • 00:04:11
They go to a place where they get outfitted
  • 00:04:13
with the right gear and the right things.
  • 00:04:15
This one day was just a normal pickup truck.
  • 00:04:18
And it's been turned into an overland vehicle.
  • 00:04:21
My main source of adventure for a long, long time
  • 00:04:23
    used to be riding motorcycles.
  • 00:04:24
I still do that. I enjoy that very much.
  • 00:04:26
The problem was I wasn't able to do it very well with my wife.
  • 00:04:29
So a friend of mine gave me some guidance. His name is Jud.
  • 00:04:33
He said, "Hey, this overlanding thing is really great."
  • 00:04:35
    "Overlanding? What's overlanding?"
  • 00:04:37
"Well, you go with your wife, you go to places,
  • 00:04:39
you go to rough roads, you camp together,"
  • 00:04:41
    yada, yada, yada, yada.
  • 00:04:42
And so I started transforming this vehicle
  • 00:04:44
    into an overland vehicle.
  • 00:04:46
    I got guidance from Jud.
  • 00:04:47
I also got guidance from an online community called Overland Portal.
  • 00:04:52
I learned things like these are traction boards right here.
  • 00:04:56
These suckers you take and you put underneath mud
  • 00:05:01
or underneath snow or whatever it is to give yourself traction.
  • 00:05:05
    I learned about that.
  • 00:05:06
I learned about having the right cases to store gear.
  • 00:05:09
I have a canopy, a tent that goes on here.
  • 00:05:12
I've got in the back here I've got a little compressor
  • 00:05:16
so I air down my tires when I'm off road so it's softer,
  • 00:05:20
when I get back on pavement I can air it up again.
  • 00:05:22
I learned to innovate because I learned from other people who guided me.
  • 00:05:26
Like this is a cutting board.
  • 00:05:28
Yeah, this is where the kitchen is I can hang out here
  • 00:05:30
and I can chop all my stuff here.
  • 00:05:33
I like overlanding. It's a really, really good adventure.
  • 00:05:35
But the biggest adventures are not around overlanding.
  • 00:05:38
The biggest adventures are around who you're dating.
  • 00:05:41
    The biggest adventures are around
  • 00:05:43
are you overcoming that substance addiction?
  • 00:05:48
The biggest adventures are are you getting out of credit card debt?
  • 00:05:51
The biggest adventures are discovering who has God made me to be?
  • 00:05:55
What's the what's the right job for me?
  • 00:05:56
What's the right career for me?
  • 00:05:58
The greatest adventures are the things that are relational,
  • 00:06:02
that are spiritual, that are emotional,
  • 00:06:04
that are life orienting on a day by day basis.
  • 00:06:08
Those adventures we need guidance on.
  • 00:06:11
We can't figure it out on our own.
  • 00:06:12
Anybody who's hardcore into adventure understands
  • 00:06:16
that for you to get someplace you haven't been,
  • 00:06:18
you need an outfitter, you need a guide,
  • 00:06:22
not to figure it out on your own.
  • 00:06:25
Hey, how about we go on adventure together?
  • 00:06:27
And while we go, I'll tell you a story from the Book of Acts 8.
  • 00:06:31
    Here's what it says:
  • 00:07:03
And he invited Phillip to come up and sit with him.
  • 00:07:06
Here we have an Ethiopian who is of African descent,
  • 00:07:09
Philip, who's a Jew who is not of African descent.
  • 00:07:12
What do you know? We have people from different races
  • 00:07:14
    interacting positively with one another.
  • 00:07:16
Could we have more of that in our world, please?
  • 00:07:19
Yes, we need more of that.
  • 00:07:22
This Ethiopian is an eunuch, that means he's been castrated.
  • 00:07:26
In the ancient world if you were inside of a king's court
  • 00:07:28
or somebody of high authority, they would often say,
  • 00:07:31
"If you're going to serve in my court, you need to be castrated,"
  • 00:07:33
because that would ensure they wouldn't be a threat,
  • 00:07:35
because they wouldn't lead a coup,
  • 00:07:36
because they could never have their own lineage
  • 00:07:38
to then be a threat to the king.
  • 00:07:39
So this is a very, very high up important guy,
  • 00:07:43
    this Ethiopian eunuch is.
  • 00:07:45
And he's been in this Jewish region.
  • 00:07:48
    He's heard their scriptures.
  • 00:07:49
He's heard of this guy named Jesus and he's just curious.
  • 00:07:52
And so he's by the side of the road,
  • 00:07:54
he's reading some of their ancient texts.
  • 00:07:56
And Philip has this adventuresome thing happened
  • 00:07:59
where God talks to him, he says, goes over the guy, says,
  • 00:08:03
"Hey, do you know what you're reading here?"
  • 00:08:06
And the guy says, "How can I know unless somebody guides me?"
  • 00:08:13
See, this guy understands what an adventure is about,
  • 00:08:16
and he's on a spiritual adventure.
  • 00:08:20
He knows that to get to a place where he hasn't been to before
  • 00:08:24
he needs someone who's been there.
  • 00:08:26
He needs someone who has pieces that he doesn't have.
  • 00:08:28
He needs somebody who can offer clarity and perspective.
  • 00:08:34
That's what you need. That's what I need.
  • 00:08:36
    Phillip ends up guiding him.
  • 00:08:38
He outfits him with the knowledge that he needs.
  • 00:08:41
    This guy gets baptized.
  • 00:08:42
He comes to understand who Jesus is.
  • 00:08:44
His eternal trajectory is forever change
  • 00:08:49
and it's all because he was willing to ask for a guide.
  • 00:08:55
He was humble enough as a person of power and influence
  • 00:09:00
to say, "I need someone to take me to a place
  • 00:09:04
I haven't been and give me some pieces of information."
  • 00:09:08
As I take you on this adventure we're going to go on
  • 00:09:11
I want to try to give you some piece of information
  • 00:09:13
so you can get a guide for your life, for your spiritual adventure.
  • 00:09:19
    Your future depends on it.
  • 00:09:25
To go on an adventure you're going to have to need a guide.
  • 00:09:30
I know a lot of us are thinking, "I don't need a guide.
  • 00:09:32
I'm a self starter, self educator. I can figure it out."
  • 00:09:38
No, no, not really. Not really. You can't.
  • 00:09:41
You see, an adventure is all about going someplace you don't know,
  • 00:09:44
    doing something you haven't done.
  • 00:09:47
As soon as you've gone there, as soon as you've done it,
  • 00:09:48
it might be adventurous, but it's not the pure adventure
  • 00:09:52
that means, "I don't know exactly what's happening here.
  • 00:09:55
We feel uncomfortable because we haven't been there before,
  • 00:09:58
    we haven't done it before.
  • 00:09:59
It's the place where God wants to take us.
  • 00:10:02
At critical point in my life, I've had guides, multiple guides.
  • 00:10:06
If I have any speaking skills right now,
  • 00:10:07
it's because of a guy by the name of Denny who was a guide for me.
  • 00:10:11
He heard me speak to groups in college
  • 00:10:13
and would give me brutal feedback every time.
  • 00:10:16
    He guided me.
  • 00:10:17
I had another guy by name of Dan, who gave me a respect
  • 00:10:20
and love actually for the local church,
  • 00:10:22
helped me see that church work could and should be actually adventurous.
  • 00:10:28
I had a guy who guided me named Tom
  • 00:10:31
when I got married, started having kids.
  • 00:10:32
    Tom was ahead of me.
  • 00:10:33
He had been married several years longer than I was,
  • 00:10:35
had more kids than I did
  • 00:10:37
and I looked to him for different piece of information.
  • 00:10:40
All those people had problems in their life.
  • 00:10:44
The problem is we look for a guide we think we're looking
  • 00:10:46
for the second incarnation of Jesus who doesn't have any problems.
  • 00:10:49
Not true. You just need to find somebody
  • 00:10:51
who's got a couple of pieces for you in the area
  • 00:10:54
or the adventure that God is pushing you in.
  • 00:11:00
Right now, we're going on a adventure.
  • 00:11:03
You don't know where we're going. I do.
  • 00:11:07
We could've dropped you in these woods.
  • 00:11:08
You could've wandered around for a little bit
  • 00:11:09
and had a good old time, but for you to get to the place
  • 00:11:13
where I want to take you, you need me, you need guide.
  • 00:11:16
For you to get to the place that God wants to take you
  • 00:11:20
you need a guide. You need people.
  • 00:11:22
You need a person to give you key pieces of information
  • 00:11:26
and inspiration that can get you where you want to go.
  • 00:11:30
Not only that, will get you where God wants you to go.
  • 00:11:41
    - Man, Brian is saying some really good stuff.
  • 00:11:44
If we want to get to the next adventure
  • 00:11:46
that God is trying to take us on,
  • 00:11:48
we're going to need a guide to help us get there.
  • 00:11:50
Well, one of the ways that I've taken an adventure
  • 00:11:52
with my relationship with God is by trusting Him with my money.
  • 00:11:56
And if you would like to do that right now,
  • 00:11:57
you can go to Crossroads.net/give or text Crossroads to 313131.
  • 00:12:04
Our church is making a difference all over the world
  • 00:12:07
    and in our local communities.
  • 00:12:08
And to learn more about how you can get connected
  • 00:12:10
to your local community, stay tuned to the end of service.
  • 00:12:16
    - One of the common questions I get,
  • 00:12:17
"Well, where do I find me one of these guides?"
  • 00:12:20
Well, if it's a physical adventure, it's pretty obvious,
  • 00:12:22
like if you want to hike the Appalachian Trail
  • 00:12:24
you can go to go to the Yellow Pages and find a guide.
  • 00:12:28
Yellow Pages? Yeah, let me guide you what the Yellow Pages were.
  • 00:12:31
A long, long time ago, there were these big, thick books
  • 00:12:35
full of yellow pages and you would look
  • 00:12:37
alphabetical order up with the kind of thing that you needed.
  • 00:12:40
So you probably couldn't even do that anymore
  • 00:12:43
But OK, if you want a guide to help you in your marriage,
  • 00:12:46
you go to Google and you Google marriage counselors in your area.
  • 00:12:49
What if you want to guide who's going to outfit you
  • 00:12:54
for your spiritual adventure, for your spiritual advancement?
  • 00:12:59
You know who that guide is? That God is the local church.
  • 00:13:02
I know. "Oh, it is so common. Like, oh, the church."
  • 00:13:07
Everyone likes to complain about, "Oh, the church."
  • 00:13:09
The church has problems. Every church has problems.
  • 00:13:13
You're never going to find the perfect church.
  • 00:13:15
In fact, if you want to have church,
  • 00:13:17
please don't come to Crossroads because
  • 00:13:18
    you're going to screwed up
  • 00:13:19
really, really even worse than it already is
  • 00:13:22
because you're gonna bring your imperfections with us.
  • 00:13:24
No church, no guide is perfect, but the truth is,
  • 00:13:27
it is the people of God that are the guides that push us.
  • 00:13:33
Phillip has a guide of the Holy Spirit that tells him,
  • 00:13:37
    go to the Ethiopian eunuch.
  • 00:13:40
He gets outfitted, that's what a church is.
  • 00:13:42
We outfit you, we outfit you with the articles you need,
  • 00:13:45
    with the teaching you need,
  • 00:13:46
with the opportunity for mission trip you need,
  • 00:13:47
with the perspective that you may need,
  • 00:13:49
connecting to people that you need.
  • 00:13:52
Not only you connect with people who guide you,
  • 00:13:54
but you wanting to guide others.
  • 00:13:57
God does not just want us to sit back
  • 00:13:59
and wait for someone to stick the spiritual IV in our veins,
  • 00:14:02
and go, "Oh, oh, just give me spiritual feelings."
  • 00:14:06
He wants us to be pushed and to push others.
  • 00:14:09
You've got to know people that you're trying to help.
  • 00:14:11
You don't have to be perfect, just need to be
  • 00:14:13
one step ahead of them in certain areas to help them
  • 00:14:16
    and to guide them.
  • 00:14:18
This is the adventure that God has been doing
  • 00:14:21
for thousands of years: people guided by the Holy Spirit
  • 00:14:25
going places they wouldn't normally do,
  • 00:14:28
equipped to be people they couldn't have been on their own power
  • 00:14:31
and helping people get to their adventure,
  • 00:14:35
to be guided, to be outfitted.
  • 00:14:37
    That's the adventurous life.
  • 00:14:39
That's what you've got to want
  • 00:14:41
or else you're just normal. And who wants normal?
  • 00:14:46
It says that Phillip runs when he hears the Holy Spirit,
  • 00:14:49
    runs to the adventure.
  • 00:14:50
In fact, the uneunuch as well, he's in a running posture.
  • 00:14:53
He's like, "I want to know. I want to learn.
  • 00:14:56
Someone's got to tell me what's going on here."
  • 00:14:59
    You've got to want it.
  • 00:15:00
You've got to get a little pep in your step.
  • 00:15:02
You've got to one more than you have right now.
  • 00:15:05
You've got to want to be used in the purpose of God,
  • 00:15:07
going a place where you haven't been before.
  • 00:15:09
It's your adventure. You've got to step up.
  • 00:15:12
You've got to step out into the unknown.
  • 00:15:32
    Woo-hoo, hoo. OH!
  • 00:15:44
That -- that was more intense than I remember.
  • 00:15:47
    I haven't done that for a while
  • 00:15:49
and I don't think I'm ever going to do that again
  • 00:15:51
for the rest of my life.
  • 00:15:54
I've aged since the last time I did that,
  • 00:15:57
which is years and years and years ago.
  • 00:16:00
I think over time my spine has compressed,
  • 00:16:04
    my discs have thinned out,
  • 00:16:05
and there's just a little more cushion between my vertebrae.
  • 00:16:07
When I hit that water, I -- I felt it.
  • 00:16:11
You know how I knew about that place?
  • 00:16:16
Somebody guided me. Somebody told me where it was.
  • 00:16:20
One of my favorite family memories is taking my kids
  • 00:16:23
    the jump off that.
  • 00:16:25
I remember my daughter who was 13, showed her where that was,
  • 00:16:28
took her to the top, encouraged her, she jumped off.
  • 00:16:30
It is so high that she jumped off
  • 00:16:32
and her bathing suit came off and got stuck in a braces.
  • 00:16:39
People always go, "You were a sicko parent."
  • 00:16:45
No, I just like challenging my kids.
  • 00:16:46
I just like pushing my kids.
  • 00:16:48
I like encouraging my kids to see that life's an adventure.
  • 00:16:51
You shouldn't be sitting back and being passive and fearful.
  • 00:16:53
You should be pushing. You should be moving.
  • 00:16:55
That's what I'm trying to do with you.
  • 00:16:56
Do not. Do not just sit back and go, "Oh, oh.
  • 00:17:00
What an interesting service at Crossroads today.
  • 00:17:03
Oh so. Oh, interesting spiritual insight I hadn't thought about."
  • 00:17:07
It's not important until it gets you moving,
  • 00:17:12
until you step out, until you step off the ledge.
  • 00:17:16
That is what matters. That is your adventure.
  • 00:17:19
That's when it becomes an adventure instead of just a philosophy.
  • 00:17:23
I hope right now you know exactly what your next adventure is.
  • 00:17:27
Is it your marriage? Is it graduating?
  • 00:17:29
Is it getting out of the addictive behavior that you're in?
  • 00:17:35
Is it -- what is it?
  • 00:17:36
    Whatever your adventure is,
  • 00:17:38
you've got to find somebody who can guide you.
  • 00:17:42
You've got to find somebody who is a step beyond you.
  • 00:17:44
You've got to find somebody who's been where you are
  • 00:17:46
right now and has gotten to another place
  • 00:17:50
and you've got to listen to him.
  • 00:17:51
You've got to move. You've got to do.
  • 00:17:53
It's not working for you unless you're moving.
  • 00:17:56
And you need a guide to help you move.
  • 00:17:59
I want to pray for you right now.
  • 00:18:01
I'm going to pray with my eyes and I'm going to look right at you,
  • 00:18:02
because I think this is a significant moment
  • 00:18:04
that God has for you right now.
  • 00:18:07
God, I thank You for every person who's been with us today,
  • 00:18:12
every person who has looked at the screen,
  • 00:18:14
every person that has their head bowed.
  • 00:18:16
God, we want what You want for life.
  • 00:18:18
Some of us are going to give our life to You right now.
  • 00:18:19
We just want to say, "Jesus come into my life.
  • 00:18:22
I want to give my heart to You, I want Your Spirit in me.
  • 00:18:26
I want Your forgiveness. I want to move on."
  • 00:18:28
Some of us are saying, "God, I need something new.
  • 00:18:32
I need to do something new in my life.
  • 00:18:34
I need to -- I need to get to a new place
  • 00:18:36
    with my relationships, with alcohol."
  • 00:18:39
God, we give You these things and I want it now.
  • 00:18:42
Would You please send me a guide?
  • 00:18:44
Help me see a guide, have the boldness to ask guide to help me.
  • 00:18:50
I'm looking forward to Your adventure, God.
  • 00:18:53
In Your name, in the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
  • 00:18:57
What we're gonna do a little connect with God
  • 00:18:59
through music right now, through worshiping.
  • 00:19:02
And in a little bit we're going to tell you
  • 00:19:05
how you actually can find a guide to Crossroads.
  • 00:19:08
How could somebody at Crossroads actually help you
  • 00:19:11
    in your spiritual adventure?
  • 00:19:12
We're going to give you that information in just a moment.
  • 00:19:15
Let's worship God right now, though.
  • 00:26:38
    - Man, I love that song.
  • 00:26:40
It is the anthem for what it means to live an adventurous life
  • 00:26:44
and no one can live that adventurous life alone.
  • 00:26:46
    I know I can't.
  • 00:26:47
We all need someone to help us get us to the next place in our lives.
  • 00:26:52
For me, in college, that looked like a guy named Reid
  • 00:26:54
who introduced me to my college Bible study.
  • 00:26:57
That's what the church is about, is about guiding people.
  • 00:27:00
It's way more than just videos and music.
  • 00:27:03
It's people gathering and pushing each other,
  • 00:27:05
growing closer to become more like Jesus.
  • 00:27:08
That's why we're introducing a thing at Crossroads called Guides.
  • 00:27:11
This is a new adventure for Crossroads.
  • 00:27:13
We want to give you a guide, a real person
  • 00:27:16
who will get to know you and help you
  • 00:27:18
take the next step on your spiritual journey.
  • 00:27:20
    And that's different for everyone,
  • 00:27:22
whether you're just exploring who God is
  • 00:27:24
or you've been following Him for a long time.
  • 00:27:26
We have something for each and every person,
  • 00:27:29
    wherever they may be.
  • 00:27:30
Your guide will connect with you regularly
  • 00:27:33
to see how things are going, answer questions,
  • 00:27:35
pray for you and encourage you on the adventure that God has you on.
  • 00:27:39
If you want to guide, which I hope you do,
  • 00:27:41
you can chat with us at Crossroads.net/adventure.
  • 00:27:44
Join us next week when Chuck tells us about
  • 00:27:47
how pain can serve a purpose on our adventure.
  • 00:27:50
If you want to give and help share this message
  • 00:27:52
with as many people as possible, you can give right now
  • 00:27:55
at Crossroads.net/give or text Crossroads to 313131.
  • 00:28:02
Stay tuned to find out how to get connected to people near you
  • 00:28:06
who are on the same adventure as you are.
  • 00:28:08
    Have a good one.
  • 00:28:11
    - Our world is aching for unity.
  • 00:28:13
While our situation might seem hopeless,
  • 00:28:15
the church is uniquely prepared to offer hope.
  • 00:28:18
The message of reconciliation is central to the gospel.
  • 00:28:21
That's why we're gathering together people
  • 00:28:24
from every color, culture, and class around the Tri-State.
  • 00:28:27
We're taking God's message of hope on the move.
  • 00:28:30
When we take our faith on the move, things change,
  • 00:28:33
waters are parted, walls fall down, and healing takes place.
  • 00:28:38
God is calling us to take a step towards justice.
  • 00:28:41
Join us for the Unified Cincy Prayer Walk July 11th at 10 a.m.
  • 00:28:48
    - Crossroads has communities all across the country.
  • 00:28:51
And I want to help you get connected.
  • 00:28:53
I'm Greg Aukerman and I lead an online church team
  • 00:28:55
whose job is doing exactly that.

  • 00:29:01
    Dayton, Oxford, and Columbus.
  • 00:29:03
I'd love to help you find your people,
  • 00:29:04
    get support and prayer
  • 00:29:06
and take the next step on your spiritual adventure.

Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Weekend Follow Up.

  1. Happy Independence Day! Let’s begin. We may not be able to recite who won the 2016 World Series, but we can remember that Kindergarten teacher’s name or that boss who impacted our life. Share the name of a person who guided you, what they did, and why it was impactful.

  2. Read Acts 8:27-31. Why do you think this man knew it was important to have a guide to assist him in understanding what he was reading?

  3. What are the characteristics, positive or negative, that make for a healthy guide? And which of these have you experienced?

  4. Read Matthew 28:16-20. Jesus instructed his disciples to replicate their faith in others, baptize them, and teach them to follow the ways of God. Gut check time. Have you ever done this? Have you led someone and seen that person grow? Share the story.

  5. Let’s end our time praying. Say this one or whatever is on your heart. “God thank you for the people in this group. God we want what you want for our life. We want your spirit to be in us and lead us. Send us a guide or others for us to guide. We pray in your name Jesus. Amen.”
