People Skills | Week 1: How to Pick Friends

The people closest to us have the biggest impact on our success. We all want friends, but good friendships don’t happen without intentionality. Brian Tome gives us a template for adding the right people in our life and yanking the wrong people out. And, how to get the most out of our friendships.

Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Chaser–a few questions after the weekend service to start conversations. If this is your first time in a group, or your group has new members, take a few minutes and introduce yourself. Two truths and a lie is always a good place to start.

  1. Important people, energizing people, draining people, introverts, extroverts–there are tons of dynamics at play when we look at our friends. So, how do YOU choose your friends?

  2. Take your phone out of your pocket and look at your favorites list. If they all called you right now, how many of those calls would you be excited to answer? Why?

  3. Read this tweet out loud. (Yes, we’re having you read a tweet out loud in your Chaser group) After hearing about VIPs, VDPs and VEPs how do you think Jesus pulled off this “miracle?”

  4. Of all the people who have been in your life, who is no longer in your friendship circle and you wish they were? And why?

  5. Relationships take hard work and tough conversations. Even for Jesus. What is something you can do this week to build relationships with your VIPs and VEPs?

More from the Weekend
