What Happens When You Die

After personally interviewing and researching over 1,500 near-death experiences, John Burke compiled his learnings into the New York Times Best-Selling book Imagine Heaven. John aggressively brings clarity and understanding to one of life’s biggest questions: what happens when you die? What you learn may surprise you, and impact the way you live today.

Welcome to the Weekend-Follow Up This is the group part of the Bible Challenge, so your questions are based on specific Bible passages from the weekend message. Each week, your group will discover what God might be saying to you, and how you can respond through a group discussion.

  1. What pet (past or present) would you want to bring with you to heaven?

  2. What stood out to you most from this week’s message? Why did that spark for you?

  3. How often (if at all) do you think about dying? What do you feel when you think about it?

  4. How did hearing stories of near death experiences change or expand your ideas about an afterlife?

  5. What did the various descriptions of Heaven tell you about God’s character?

  6. What does the priority God places on relationships in Heaven tell us about our purpose on earth?

  7. What’s one step you can take this week to create a little Heaven on earth in your life this week? Share your plan with the group.

  8. Let’s end with prayer. You can say something like, “Jesus, thank you for creating a place for us to go after this life. Thank you for loving us and wanting a relationship with us for eternity. Help us reflect that love to the people around in our time on earth. Amen.”
