Witness professional horse trainer Todd Pierce show us—through the eyes of an untamed horse—what it looks like to leave behind our wildness and embrace the freedom that a loving God offers.

  • 00:00:00
    - Today on Crossroads we're going to see
  • 00:00:02
what a wild, untamed beast has to do with us
  • 00:00:06
and how we can find freedom
  • 00:00:07
just like it's going to find freedom.
  • 00:00:11
Welcome to Crossroads. I'm Brian Tome, senior pastor.
  • 00:00:14
    - And I'm Hannah and Happy Mother's Day
  • 00:00:18
to all the moms out there. We are so excited.
  • 00:00:20
    - It's amazing, my church gets to remind me,
  • 00:00:22
"Oh, no, I've got to go get something, for my mother today."
  • 00:00:24
    - Exactly right.
  • 00:00:25
So if that's you, you need to pause this or walk away,
  • 00:00:28
call, text, do whatever you got to do,
  • 00:00:30
because mothers everywhere deserve to be celebrated.
  • 00:00:33
And we're excited to do that today with a weekend
  • 00:00:36
we get to call created to be free.
  • 00:00:40
And your friend Todd Pierce is here.
  • 00:00:42
    - It is an unbroken horse
  • 00:00:44
and bring it to a place of freedom.
  • 00:00:47
    It's crazy what he does.
  • 00:00:48
He does this all over the country
  • 00:00:50
with a lot a lot of people.
  • 00:00:52
    - Maybe you're skeptical because what does freedom
  • 00:00:54
and horses and Todd have to do with anything?
  • 00:00:56
And Mother's Day? We're about to find out right now.
  • 00:01:01
    - Today, I'm going to tell you a story about a horse.
  • 00:01:03
It's not just about the horse.
  • 00:01:06
    It's actually about us.
  • 00:01:08
You're going to be able to see the transition
  • 00:01:10
that can happen even in a short amount of time
  • 00:01:12
of this horse going from scared
  • 00:01:14
and in almost every way clueless about
  • 00:01:17
what its life can be about
  • 00:01:19
and overcome fear, learn how to be loved
  • 00:01:23
and the potential that's released as a result of that.
  • 00:01:26
It's going to come down to her having
  • 00:01:28
a pretty big decision to make.
  • 00:01:31
It's going to determine the impact of her entire life.
  • 00:01:34
And it's going to be whether she says yes or no.
  • 00:01:38
She was made for greatness, but she doesn't know it yet.
  • 00:01:44
My name is Todd and I'm from Idaho,
  • 00:01:46
    where I'm a husband and a father.
  • 00:01:49
And I've spent my whole adult life as,
  • 00:01:52
    first, a rodeo cowboy.
  • 00:01:54
And now for the last 20 years,
  • 00:01:56
I've used my cowboy influence to encourage other people.
  • 00:02:02
And over the last ten years, actually doing
  • 00:02:05
what it is that you're going to see today,
  • 00:02:07
where we can allow a horse to teach us
  • 00:02:09
more about how God created us and interacts with us.
  • 00:02:14
When we got here last night, she was obviously very scared.
  • 00:02:19
She had been in the trailer with this other horse,
  • 00:02:22
but it was a whole new world to her whole.
  • 00:02:25
Her whole life had been in that one pasture
  • 00:02:28
and she had no idea what to expect.
  • 00:02:30
    Obviously, a lot of confusion
  • 00:02:32
and the reality of just trying to get off the trailer
  • 00:02:37
    was a brand new experience.
  • 00:02:43
She comes from a ranch here locally
  • 00:02:45
    that has a breeding program.
  • 00:02:47
And they purposely breed horses for special purposes.
  • 00:02:52
But this one was an accident.
  • 00:02:57
It wasn't one that someone had a specific plan for,
  • 00:03:01
and it'd be what some people would consider
  • 00:03:03
a throwaway horse on a on a big ranch like this
  • 00:03:06
that produces horses for what their intended goal is.
  • 00:03:12
And because she hadn't had any handling,
  • 00:03:14
she thought that she was actually doing really well
  • 00:03:16
because she just lived in a pasture, got deep grass,
  • 00:03:19
    and that was her life.
  • 00:03:21
But I believe because this beautiful little girl
  • 00:03:24
has such a future and a destiny
  • 00:03:27
that today's something on Mother's Day
  • 00:03:29
where we can take a look again
  • 00:03:33
on how good God is in the ways that it is
  • 00:03:37
that He honors what it is that He created in this.
  • 00:03:41
It wasn't the plans of man.
  • 00:03:42
It was that He had this knowledge of us
  • 00:03:46
and this intimacy that He desires with us
  • 00:03:49
that makes it where our own instincts
  • 00:03:52
and our own nature aren't going to ever get in the way
  • 00:03:54
    of us fulfilling our purpose.
  • 00:03:59
And because this horse hasn't been handled at all,
  • 00:04:02
the only thing she really knows about me
  • 00:04:04
is what she's observed from a distance.
  • 00:04:07
And if that's all that we have to go off of,
  • 00:04:10
she's never going to really understand what my heart is.
  • 00:04:15
    Unfortunately, that's where I believe
  • 00:04:16
a lot of people live, is they've settled for
  • 00:04:20
this ability to stay alive and survive,
  • 00:04:23
but they don't actually know what they're capable of
  • 00:04:26
and the potential that's hidden inside of them.
  • 00:04:29
    And you can't forgive yourself.
  • 00:04:32
You can't bring out the greatness inside of you.
  • 00:04:35
That's something that is reserved for Jesus alone.
  • 00:04:38
So we'll let her move around because
  • 00:04:40
I want her to know that she's actually free.
  • 00:04:43
    I can't control her.
  • 00:04:47
And now that she's looking at me,
  • 00:04:48
    she's probably asking the question
  • 00:04:50
of why it is that she's here
  • 00:04:54
and what do I want from her?
  • 00:04:56
A wild horse, even the wild horses that
  • 00:04:58
we have in our country, they don't live near as long
  • 00:05:01
or near the quality of lives
  • 00:05:03
of horses that are actually cared for.
  • 00:05:06
And if you're going to go round up a wild horse,
  • 00:05:10
it'll take a tame horse to do it,
  • 00:05:12
because one tame horse can overcome 50 wild horses
  • 00:05:17
simply because it's partnered with man.
  • 00:05:21
Probably never even crossed your mind that
  • 00:05:23
I would want something from her.
  • 00:05:26
But if she knew what my dream was for her,
  • 00:05:31
there wouldn't be any hesitation in this at all.
  • 00:05:34
And what she's going to get to encounter today
  • 00:05:36
is not just a look from me,
  • 00:05:39
not just the knowledge of me, but such a connection
  • 00:05:44
that everything that's inside of her
  • 00:05:46
as far as all of her gifts,
  • 00:05:48
all of her potential is going to get released.
  • 00:05:52
    She's super nervous about this
  • 00:05:54
and she's got a reason to be,
  • 00:05:56
all of her instincts say that I want
  • 00:05:57
to stay in control of my own world.
  • 00:06:00
And we live in a culture right now that's so confused
  • 00:06:05
on what it means to be human,
  • 00:06:08
maybe more specifically, what it looks like to be a mom.
  • 00:06:13
I'm a father, so it feels super natural for me
  • 00:06:16
to talk about the role of God as a father in our lives.
  • 00:06:20
But on Mother's Day, I am who I am today,
  • 00:06:24
    significantly because of my mother
  • 00:06:27
and the heart of God and the beauty
  • 00:06:32
and the tenderness of God being displayed
  • 00:06:34
    through my mother.
  • 00:06:35
We need to see what it's like to see a woman
  • 00:06:38
that's filled with power, but she's still kind
  • 00:06:41
    and she's tender, she's nurturing,
  • 00:06:43
and she doesn't have to be masculine to be heard.
  • 00:06:46
She can be very much feminine and very much a nurturer.
  • 00:06:51
The way we honor them is that we live our lives
  • 00:06:54
that exceed even their own expectations
  • 00:06:56
of what it is that we were capable of.
  • 00:06:58
    So thank you, moms.
  • 00:07:02
So she's just paying just enough attention to me
  • 00:07:05
so that she can make herself feel comfortable.
  • 00:07:09
But if we're going to get anywhere today,
  • 00:07:12
she's going to have to understand that
  • 00:07:14
we've got to become one and that oneness is going
  • 00:07:17
to take a lot of courage on her side
  • 00:07:21
and a lot of kindness and patience on my side.
  • 00:07:25
And I believe it's the attributes of
  • 00:07:26
the perfect father of who God is that makes it
  • 00:07:29
to where if we all realize that this is
  • 00:07:31
how patient He's been with us, that we can run,
  • 00:07:35
we can have our attitudes, we can have our questions
  • 00:07:39
and our concerns and even the things that
  • 00:07:41
    we just don't understand.
  • 00:07:44
    And He's okay with that.
  • 00:07:47
Again, the rope isn't here to control her.
  • 00:07:50
This is like Holy Spirit that draws us to Him
  • 00:07:54
that makes it to where, even when we're scared,
  • 00:07:58
that we've got something inside us
  • 00:08:01
that's just making it to where, man,
  • 00:08:02
I just long to understand who God is,
  • 00:08:05
what it is that makes it to where if
  • 00:08:07
the world would actually understand what this is like
  • 00:08:11
to have these types of encounters with God,
  • 00:08:15
that all the restlessness and all the anxiety
  • 00:08:17
and the fear and the thing that causes people
  • 00:08:20
to stay busy and running around,
  • 00:08:22
those things start to go away
  • 00:08:25
and you start to understand what it's like to be loved.
  • 00:08:30
And because you can see that she's smart, she's kind.
  • 00:08:37
She just doesn't know anything about what she's capable of.
  • 00:08:43
Not every horse, fact is, most horses don't,
  • 00:08:46
they don't have this kindness and the innocence
  • 00:08:49
    that you see in her.
  • 00:08:50
And I know that we've got a culture
  • 00:08:52
filled with women that have been so mistreated,
  • 00:08:55
    they hadn't been fathered right.
  • 00:08:58
    They haven't been treated well
  • 00:09:00
by those that they should have been able to trust.
  • 00:09:03
But this horse has got the privilege of having
  • 00:09:06
just this preserved innocence in here
  • 00:09:08
to where it's making it so much easier
  • 00:09:10
    for her to understand this.
  • 00:09:12
If we use fear and intimidation
  • 00:09:14
so that we can dominate her and we can manipulate her
  • 00:09:16
and we can make her do what we want,
  • 00:09:18
then we've got a broken animal.
  • 00:09:21
We don't want a broken animal.
  • 00:09:22
We want a healed the animal.
  • 00:09:24
And her nature would actually work against that healing
  • 00:09:27
if all she listened to was her instincts.
  • 00:09:32
So she's got her boundaries and you can see
  • 00:09:34
that she's quite comfortable with me
  • 00:09:36
being around her and petting her.
  • 00:09:38
But there's still some things that she's going
  • 00:09:40
to have to endure that every part of her instinct
  • 00:09:44
    is going to be against.
  • 00:09:46
    It's going to be, like,
  • 00:09:49
everything inside of me is saying this is unsafe.
  • 00:09:52
    Someone's going to hurt me.
  • 00:09:53
They're going to take something from me.
  • 00:09:56
How do I stay in control with this guy
  • 00:09:58
    getting this close to me?
  • 00:10:00
And she's feeling just enough pressure.
  • 00:10:04
Well, just step back and let her think about it for a second.
  • 00:10:09
Because God was so kind, is when, like,
  • 00:10:11
when He showed up in human form and Jesus walked around
  • 00:10:15
and He interacted with people, He just gave invitations.
  • 00:10:19
He never told them what to do or what not to do.
  • 00:10:22
He just said, "Would you come and follow me?"
  • 00:10:25
And that following looked like something.
  • 00:10:26
It required them to walk away from one thing
  • 00:10:29
so that they could pursue something else.
  • 00:10:32
    And that pursuit was Jesus.
  • 00:10:35
And so today, while you watch this
  • 00:10:37
and you watch her deal with her own concerns
  • 00:10:39
and misunderstandings, that you can look at your life
  • 00:10:44
again and say, "In what areas is that
  • 00:10:45
    I've just actually limited God,
  • 00:10:47
and I've wanted to keep Him at some distance
  • 00:10:49
because that's where I feel safe?"
  • 00:10:52
But she wants to know me.
  • 00:10:53
She just doesn't know what it's going to look like
  • 00:10:55
for her to actually give up all of herself
  • 00:10:58
so that she can have all of me.
  • 00:11:01
God is perfect love. He's the perfect Father.
  • 00:11:04
And I see a world that's filled with people
  • 00:11:07
that just don't -- they've never encountered that.
  • 00:11:09
They don't understand that the creator of heaven
  • 00:11:12
    and Earth is actually desiring
  • 00:11:14
such an intimate connection with you.
  • 00:11:16
For me to be able to take my love for horses
  • 00:11:19
and my love for people and my love for God
  • 00:11:22
and make it to where hopefully
  • 00:11:24
    it's going to bring understanding.
  • 00:11:26
Because it's heartbreaking to see people
  • 00:11:29
live their lives separated from God
  • 00:11:31
    when they don't have to.
  • 00:11:35
Until we become one, you're never going to understand.
  • 00:11:40
I can't teach it to you from here.
  • 00:11:45
It's going to become so inward and so vulnerable
  • 00:11:49
that the same way you're going to feel
  • 00:11:51
so much more power because my nature
  • 00:11:55
    becomes one with yours.
  • 00:11:56
    It's okay. That's a good girl.
  • 00:12:13
Yes, it is. It's a good girl.
  • 00:12:20
I don't want her to think
  • 00:12:21
that because she's afraid that I'm afraid.
  • 00:12:24
I don't think our Father is afraid of us.
  • 00:12:27
He's not afraid of our fear or our rebellion.
  • 00:12:32
That a girl. That a girl. That's a good girl.
  • 00:12:38
The other approach to doing this was that
  • 00:12:40
I would actually have to establish dominance with her.
  • 00:12:42
I'd have to make her feel like I'm more powerful
  • 00:12:45
than her in a really intimidating way.
  • 00:12:49
That's just not the way that Jesus operated.
  • 00:12:51
He had all the power of heaven to do whatever it is
  • 00:12:54
He wanted to do to the people around Him.
  • 00:12:56
Yet He chose this way and He said, "Come and follow Me.
  • 00:13:00
And I'm the Word of God made flesh,
  • 00:13:04
    and I'm dwelling among people.
  • 00:13:05
And I'm going to show you a revelation
  • 00:13:07
that the world has never experienced,
  • 00:13:09
that I want to have such a deep encounter with you
  • 00:13:12
that as My Spirit fills you and we become one
  • 00:13:18
that our whole world begins to change."
  • 00:13:20
Because she's going to see what it is that I see.
  • 00:13:28
    That's good.
  • 00:13:36
    Good girl. It's okay.
  • 00:13:38
I don't want to get too far from her here for a second,
  • 00:13:40
because I don't want her to think that every time
  • 00:13:44
she gets scared that the only way she can feel safe
  • 00:13:48
is to get away from me.
  • 00:13:52
Because eventually, once she gets scared,
  • 00:13:55
she's actually going to start looking for me.
  • 00:14:01
Good girl. That's a good girl.
  • 00:14:21
You did so good. You did so good.
  • 00:14:28
    - I don't know about you, Brian, but I've literally got chills
  • 00:14:31
with what we just saw and experienced.
  • 00:14:33
    - Crazy seeing how far he could come
  • 00:14:34
in such a short amount of time with that horse.
  • 00:14:36
    - It is amazing, and there is still
  • 00:14:38
so much more to come. You know what?
  • 00:14:40
Today is made possible by very faithful people.
  • 00:14:43
    - Yeah, everybody who gives.
  • 00:14:45
And we want to thank you if you're a giver.
  • 00:14:47
This costs a lot of money to pay for Todd's time
  • 00:14:50
and to get a horse there and a crew there,
  • 00:14:52
let alone the things that we do
  • 00:14:54
outside of our community to bless the world,
  • 00:14:56
let alone all of us trying to make that
  • 00:14:58
    a spiritual discipline of giving.
  • 00:15:00
So we want to invite you on the team so our church
  • 00:15:02
can be stronger and you can be more spiritually strong.
  • 00:15:04
    - That's exactly right. If you want to join us in that,
  • 00:15:06
you can go to Crossroads.net/give right now.
  • 00:15:09
    You know what?
  • 00:15:10
Before we hop back into the rest of the episode,
  • 00:15:13
we're going to get to hear from someone whose life
  • 00:15:16
was quite literally changed by experiencing Todd Pierce
  • 00:15:20
    and his ministry through horses.
  • 00:15:22
His whole life was flipped upside down
  • 00:15:24
    in the best way possible.
  • 00:15:25
    - Well, and this reminds us, your life might be changing,
  • 00:15:28
and maybe your friend's life might be.
  • 00:15:30
    Good idea, share this link.
  • 00:15:32
Get other people in on this, because
  • 00:15:33
we all know people who need to be free.
  • 00:15:36
    - That's exactly right.
  • 00:15:37
So let's watch a story right now.
  • 00:15:41
    - I'm Bill Teeter.
  • 00:15:42
We started coming to Crossroads back in '96,
  • 00:15:44
shortly after they started having services
  • 00:15:46
and heard that they were going to have
  • 00:15:48
this horse on stage, that they were going
  • 00:15:50
to be able to train a horse within an hour.
  • 00:15:52
When I saw this huge ring with this very high fence
  • 00:15:56
    and my first reaction was,
  • 00:15:58
"I wonder if that horse could get out of there?"
  • 00:16:00
As the service progressed, I got more and more
  • 00:16:02
    into what he was saying.
  • 00:16:04
And this line really stood out to me was he talked
  • 00:16:06
about how they used to break horses
  • 00:16:08
and they used to just, for lack of a better term,
  • 00:16:12
    beat them into submission.
  • 00:16:13
But he called, he used a term called sacking them out.
  • 00:16:16
    - So back in the day, they would take a horse like this
  • 00:16:18
and they would tie him up and they would dominate him.
  • 00:16:22
They would beat the fear out of him.
  • 00:16:25
    It's called sacking them out.
  • 00:16:27
    - Having grown up without a father
  • 00:16:29
and then having taken custody of our grandson
  • 00:16:32
when he was three, and it changed the way
  • 00:16:34
    I approach my grandson.
  • 00:16:36
I started trying to apply some of those principles
  • 00:16:39
of not trying to sack him out,
  • 00:16:40
but trying to bring him in.
  • 00:16:43
    We just started to grow.
  • 00:16:45
He trusted me much like that horse had to trust Todd.
  • 00:16:49
All of a sudden, Cameron started to trust me.
  • 00:16:52
    He started to blossom.
  • 00:16:53
    He really started to thrive.
  • 00:16:55
And it really helped create a bond between he and I
  • 00:16:58
that to this day has gotten only stronger
  • 00:17:00
    and continues to get stronger.
  • 00:17:06
    - Just because this filly, this young female horse,
  • 00:17:10
    was as cooperative
  • 00:17:12
and it looks like she was so willing.
  • 00:17:15
    I could have wrecked that
  • 00:17:17
if I chose to take a firm hand with her.
  • 00:17:20
And any time that she would have felt like
  • 00:17:24
I was going to be abusive or I was there to hurt her
  • 00:17:28
or put her in a corner and force her to do something,
  • 00:17:31
this would have had an entirely different outcome.
  • 00:17:34
And so I just think the core values
  • 00:17:37
that Jesus gave us in how we lead people,
  • 00:17:40
that just because we're in authority doesn't mean
  • 00:17:43
that you have to dominate people.
  • 00:17:46
There's a force at power here that
  • 00:17:49
it's why I believe that we have been invited
  • 00:17:52
into the supernatural lifestyle of experiencing God
  • 00:17:56
is not just one to be afraid of
  • 00:17:59
because we know that He's bigger than us,
  • 00:18:00
we know that we're not Him.
  • 00:18:03
    But He's so kind.
  • 00:18:04
And He said that it's his goodness that leads people
  • 00:18:06
to change the way they think, to repent,
  • 00:18:08
to actually turn away from the life
  • 00:18:10
that they were doing once and say,
  • 00:18:13
"I was built for this type of connection."
  • 00:18:18
People have got an idea that being free means
  • 00:18:21
    that you're just turned out
  • 00:18:22
to go do whatever it is that you want.
  • 00:18:24
And that is a level of freedom.
  • 00:18:26
But the freedom that we actually have offered to us
  • 00:18:30
in Christ is that you haven't been called
  • 00:18:33
    to just be my servants.
  • 00:18:34
You've actually come to be mine,
  • 00:18:36
to be my son, to be my daughter.
  • 00:18:42
So Jesus had a lot of people following Him.
  • 00:18:48
    And they would follow Him
  • 00:18:49
the way they would follow another man.
  • 00:18:52
It's okay that we know how to follow,
  • 00:18:55
but I don't want her to just learn
  • 00:18:57
how to follow me around like a puppy on a string.
  • 00:18:59
    She's got too much power.
  • 00:19:02
She can do stuff with me now
  • 00:19:04
that she's never even dreamt that she could do.
  • 00:19:08
This horse is not my slave.
  • 00:19:10
She's actually made a decision for herself
  • 00:19:12
that even with all of the back story
  • 00:19:15
and all the things that she's been through,
  • 00:19:17
her saying yes to me became a turning point
  • 00:19:20
for everything that's going to happen from here on out.
  • 00:19:24
So still just a level of of anxiety or nervousness,
  • 00:19:29
curiosity, like, "Wow, I didn't even know
  • 00:19:32
I could do this, but still,
  • 00:19:34
I don't know what to do next."
  • 00:19:41
So because I'm not walking in front of her, leading her,
  • 00:19:44
she's realizing that she's partnering with me,
  • 00:19:47
that she can't just run off and do what ever she wants,
  • 00:19:53
that she wants to carry me into whatever's next.
  • 00:19:56
    She's learned how to stop.
  • 00:20:02
So when I can change what she's looking at,
  • 00:20:05
I can change the whole direction.
  • 00:20:11
It's nothing short of a miracle.
  • 00:20:13
But this is what love does, it creates safety,
  • 00:20:17
    it creates power,
  • 00:20:19
it creates a whole new world of opportunity.
  • 00:20:25
Right now she's not trying to think about
  • 00:20:27
where her next meal's coming from.
  • 00:20:29
She's not trying to figure out
  • 00:20:30
    what tomorrow's going to bring.
  • 00:20:31
She's so in the moment that she can enjoy just
  • 00:20:34
the peace that's coming from being one with me.
  • 00:20:38
She doesn't have to just lean on her own understanding.
  • 00:20:42
In all her ways, she's going to acknowledge that
  • 00:20:44
I've got a higher level of living for her
  • 00:20:47
and that I'm going to direct her paths.
  • 00:20:49
And those paths are always going to lead to
  • 00:20:53
more power, more wisdom, more love,
  • 00:20:56
and the things that's going to make it
  • 00:20:57
    where she's fully alive.
  • 00:21:04
It was later on in life when I actually
  • 00:21:10
made a decision that I was going to follow Jesus.
  • 00:21:12
And it was kind of a conditional thing where I said,
  • 00:21:18
"Jesus, I want to give you my life.
  • 00:21:19
I want to be, I'm all in, anything that you ask of me.
  • 00:21:23
I just don't want to be a part of your church.
  • 00:21:25
I don't want to be around your people."
  • 00:21:27
You know, I don't think that God makes deals,
  • 00:21:29
but it was his kindness that made it where
  • 00:21:31
knowing how broken I had been
  • 00:21:33
and how hurt I'd been by people and religion,
  • 00:21:35
that it was as though He gave me permission
  • 00:21:38
to just go on this journey with Him.
  • 00:21:40
I was training horses at the time
  • 00:21:43
and there was one horse in particular that
  • 00:21:46
    he just wouldn't stop running.
  • 00:21:48
He just kept going around in circles.
  • 00:21:49
And I'd never spoke out loud to a horse,
  • 00:21:53
    that I can remember.
  • 00:21:55
But I just started having an open dialog and saying,
  • 00:21:59
"I don't know why you want to keep running,
  • 00:22:01
like, this has got to be exhausting for you.
  • 00:22:03
If you actually knew what I see when I look at you,
  • 00:22:06
    you wouldn't even run.
  • 00:22:07
And you'd be able to trust me with everything
  • 00:22:10
because everything that I have for you
  • 00:22:12
is going to be a gift."
  • 00:22:14
And it was in that moment that I realized
  • 00:22:17
I wasn't even talking to that horse,
  • 00:22:19
that was actually the Holy Spirit speaking to me.
  • 00:22:22
And every interaction that I had with horses
  • 00:22:25
from that point on became like a super sacred thing
  • 00:22:28
where I was starting to understand the love of God
  • 00:22:31
    and His desires for me.
  • 00:22:37
So you can see that she's already asking,
  • 00:22:41
"What in the world is that?"
  • 00:22:45
So she don't know yet that this is a gift,
  • 00:22:48
    but she'll learn.
  • 00:22:54
    That's a good girl.
  • 00:22:59
It's one thing to just sit there
  • 00:23:00
and have an encounter like this and get a new tool
  • 00:23:03
    and a gift like this.
  • 00:23:05
It's another thing to start actually using it
  • 00:23:07
and moving with it, that she wasn't supposed
  • 00:23:11
to just sit here and be a saddle rack
  • 00:23:12
    and hold it for me,
  • 00:23:13
but we're going to do crazy stuff together with it.
  • 00:23:16
So we're going to let her get used to moving with it.
  • 00:23:21
    My goodness.
  • 00:23:24
Again, she didn't even have a halter on before this.
  • 00:23:37
Now, remember, any of the separation is
  • 00:23:40
    it's always got a purpose.
  • 00:23:42
Like people think that because things
  • 00:23:43
aren't going their way and they might feel distant,
  • 00:23:46
that where is God in it?
  • 00:23:48
    He's not far, I promise.
  • 00:23:50
He's actually just one look away.
  • 00:23:53
And I think super similar to how it is
  • 00:23:55
that we are with God is that His ways
  • 00:23:58
are so far above our ways and we've been so limited
  • 00:24:02
in our understanding of Him that
  • 00:24:04
it's these types of interactions or encounters
  • 00:24:07
that make it where we don't have to spend
  • 00:24:10
our whole life trying to figure this all out.
  • 00:24:12
All we've got to do is have the courage to surrender.
  • 00:24:16
Any part of her right now that's unshielded,
  • 00:24:18
any part of her that she still has fear
  • 00:24:21
is going to be a part that she's never going
  • 00:24:24
to be able to find peace with.
  • 00:24:25
And I know that we've all got things in our life
  • 00:24:27
that it's, like, I can trust God with certain things,
  • 00:24:32
    but then there's others that
  • 00:24:33
I don't know that I can trust Him.
  • 00:24:35
Like, I don't know what that looks like.
  • 00:24:37
How do I actually say, "God, I trust you with my life,
  • 00:24:40
with my finances, with my marriage, and with my kids,
  • 00:24:43
and with my own ability to accept myself.
  • 00:24:46
God, I trust You that You said that I'm beautifully,
  • 00:24:49
I'm wonderfully created, I was created in Your image."
  • 00:24:53
It takes practice and it takes this continual
  • 00:24:57
just allowing Him to come back into your story and love you.
  • 00:25:02
And again she's never had a bridle,
  • 00:25:05
so brand new experience for her.
  • 00:25:14
    And again, super awkward.
  • 00:25:15
She's like, "There's this thing in my mouth.
  • 00:25:20
It tastes funny. It feels funny."
  • 00:25:27
You know, I'm not just coming up with this stuff,
  • 00:25:29
this is all what the Bible actually says.
  • 00:25:31
And He actually said that it's like
  • 00:25:34
a bit in the mouth of a horse.
  • 00:25:37
That some the smallest part of their body
  • 00:25:41
can make it to where you can change
  • 00:25:42
    the trajectory of everything.
  • 00:25:45
And that's what it's like when we actually
  • 00:25:47
hear God's voice that it's every word that He speaks,
  • 00:25:49
it's in our mouth. it's the words that we speak.
  • 00:25:53
    This isn't a self-help program.
  • 00:25:55
And Jesus says, "Come and die with Me."
  • 00:25:58
It's it's the only life worth living.
  • 00:26:00
And as you see what happens, it's almost like,
  • 00:26:05
what if the whole world just would accept
  • 00:26:09
this invitation that God has that brings
  • 00:26:11
so much strength and peace and love and knowledge
  • 00:26:14
and wisdom into the into every relationship?
  • 00:26:18
It really would fix all that ails humanity.
  • 00:26:24
I want you to remember last night she got roped.
  • 00:26:27
One man on a horse went out and roped her
  • 00:26:30
and had to use that means to get her in a trailer
  • 00:26:34
to bring her to this deal today.
  • 00:26:36
    She's never been handled.
  • 00:26:39
And in such a short amount of time, less than an hour,
  • 00:26:43
    this is where she's at.
  • 00:26:44
And it's and it's not because she was forced.
  • 00:26:48
It was because she was loved.
  • 00:26:51
The feminine attributes that we get to see
  • 00:26:55
in our mothers, it's the feminine nature of God.
  • 00:27:00
I want to spend my life doing this
  • 00:27:03
where everything that you do is good
  • 00:27:05
    and the knowledge of that.
  • 00:27:07
And even when I'm afraid that you're patient
  • 00:27:10
and you wait for me, and even when I'm running,
  • 00:27:12
that it's okay because you haven't left me.
  • 00:27:16
And when we have a father that says,
  • 00:27:18
"I'm never going to leave you. I'm never going to forsake you,"
  • 00:27:21
then this is a whole lot more than just a belief system,
  • 00:27:23
    because it becomes super tangible.
  • 00:27:26
As you've watched what she's endured
  • 00:27:28
and the things that have happened over this process,
  • 00:27:32
    there's there's been conflict, there's been fear,
  • 00:27:35
there's been frustration, there's been a lot of love.
  • 00:27:39
I think that people have the idea
  • 00:27:40
if they give their life to Jesus
  • 00:27:42
that somehow it's just going to fix all the problems.
  • 00:27:44
But really, there had to be a lot of confrontations
  • 00:27:47
and me just presenting myself to her again
  • 00:27:49
to realize I didn't come to steal life from you,
  • 00:27:52
I actually came to give you life.
  • 00:27:54
And the hardest thing for us to to be convinced of
  • 00:27:59
is if we actually say yes, if whatever's going on
  • 00:28:02
in your heart right now and you say yes
  • 00:28:05
    to this invitation, that, "Jesus,
  • 00:28:07
you can have full access to my life."
  • 00:28:09
I believe that's where this becomes super personal
  • 00:28:12
for each one of us that you get to make a decision,
  • 00:28:14
or are you just simply going to give Jesus a yes?
  • 00:28:24
    [music]
  • 00:30:02
    - With everything that's going on in the world
  • 00:30:04
    and whatever your story is,
  • 00:30:06
you're sitting here watching this deal
  • 00:30:08
and it's like God is just dropped
  • 00:30:10
right in the middle of your world.
  • 00:30:12
And for a second here, I want you to just consider
  • 00:30:14
what would happen if you were to just give your yes to Jesus.
  • 00:30:17
And I've spent enough time around enough people
  • 00:30:22
that I know everyone's got these super unique stories
  • 00:30:24
and you've got all these pressures
  • 00:30:25
and the things that have come against you
  • 00:30:27
and even the ways you've been hurt by other Christians.
  • 00:30:31
And what it looks like for you to say yes to Jesus,
  • 00:30:35
    it's extremely personal.
  • 00:30:37
And so with that invitation that's just hanging
  • 00:30:40
out there in front of us all the time on a daily basis,
  • 00:30:44
I hope that you find the courage and the ability
  • 00:30:47
to just say yes to Jesus today.
  • 00:30:54
    That was easy, huh?
  • 00:31:07
Father, thank you for the privilege
  • 00:31:09
of being your sons and your daughters
  • 00:31:11
and the way that you've poured out so much love on us.
  • 00:31:14
And even today, as we've interacted with this horse,
  • 00:31:17
we invite you, Holy Spirit, to do whatever it is
  • 00:31:19
that You want to do in us.
  • 00:31:21
We just say yes to whatever it is that You've got.
  • 00:31:24
And we want to turn away from anything
  • 00:31:27
that's not of You and we want to embrace
  • 00:31:29
everything that You've got for us.
  • 00:31:31
So thank You for being so patient with us
  • 00:31:34
and kind and gentle and that the rest of our lives
  • 00:31:38
represent what it's like to be one of Yours.
  • 00:31:43
So we present ourselves to You in this way.
  • 00:31:45
    In Jesus' name. Amen.
  • 00:31:54
    - Incredibly moving to see one of God's creatures
  • 00:31:59
    come into freedom.
  • 00:32:01
And what they said was, yes.
  • 00:32:03
That's kind of our part. God does His part.
  • 00:32:04
And our part is to take that step and say, "Yes,
  • 00:32:08
I'll have what You have for me."
  • 00:32:10
And maybe that's you right now.
  • 00:32:12
    Maybe you've recently said yes,
  • 00:32:14
maybe you want to say yes.
  • 00:32:16
Maybe you're curious about saying yes.
  • 00:32:18
We would love to partner with you
  • 00:32:19

we're in the Book of Luke in the Bible challenge.
  • 00:32:40
    - We know God wants us to be free because
  • 00:32:42
the Bible says He wants us to be free.
  • 00:32:44
That's why we're in the Bible Challenge this year,
  • 00:32:47
because the more you get in the Bible,
  • 00:32:49
the more you get the freedom God wants for you.
  • 00:32:51

  • 00:33:14
and that it's actually possible to understand
  • 00:33:16
what Jesus was saying to us?
  • 00:33:17
    Jesus spoke in parables,
  • 00:33:19
    earthly stories with spiritual truth.
  • 00:33:21
Ever wonder what the parables are?
  • 00:33:23
    Why did Jesus use them?
  • 00:33:25
    Join us at Crossroads Church
  • 00:33:26
as we explore the Book of Luke to find out
  • 00:33:28
