The Shepherd You Can Trust | Why Jesus is "The Good Shepherd"
What’s your favorite thing to eat at a cookout?
What stood out to you most from the message?
If you could have more of one thing in your life right now, what would it be?
When was the last time you felt alone? When was the last time you felt like you belonged?
A “bummer lamb” is a lamb who’s been rejected by its mother. Oftentimes, it’s cared for by the shepherd so it survives. Has there been a time you felt like a bummer lamb? How did you need help?
Read Ezekiel 34:11-12. Take a moment to reflect: What has it looked like for God to seek and rescue you? If you haven’t experienced that yet, how do you need him to rescue you right now?
Read John 10:11-14. Who or what is your hired hand? What makes it tempting to want to follow that voice?
What would it look like to operate knowing that Jesus, the good shepherd, will provide for you? What’s a step you could take to help make that a reality this week?
Let’s end our time praying together. You can say something like;
“Jesus, thank you for being a good shepherd, who’s passionate about caring for us. We need your help understanding what that means and fully trusting you. In the identity and character of your name we pray, amen.”
Most of us have never met a shepherd, but we all know what it feels like to long for protection, acceptance, and someone we can trust.
This week, Alli Patterson shows how Jesus’ claim to be the Good Shepherd fulfills the promise of Psalm 23. Discover the Shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep—and why you can trust him to lead, provide, and never let you go.
Recorded live at Crossroads Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.
