Religion, Rebellion, and Why Neither Work
What are you excited for this fall season? What are you least looking forward to?
What stood out to you most from the message?
What are some life goals you have? How might they fit within the life that God wants for you? How might they not?
How have you tried to earn God’s love, get his attention, or gain his approval?
In Luke 15:11-32, do you identify more with the younger son or the older son? To put it another way, do you identify more with being lost in rebellion, or being lost in religion?
God’s raw, unfiltered love means that we can come to him as our full selves. What’s one area of yourself that you tend to forget, dislike, or ignore?
Read Luke 15:20-24. Close your eyes and imagine God running and embracing you. He says, “I forgive you and I love you.” What else would you want to hear him say?
What’s one thing you can do this week to pause to receive and experience God’s love, instead of trying to earn it?
You can run from God by breaking all the rules. You can also run from God by keeping all of them.
In Luke 15, Jesus tells the story of two lost sons—one lost in rebellion, the other lost in religion. Both think they know how to relate to the Father. Both get it wrong.
