 As Paul closes the chapter, he shares his travel plans, his ministry, and his desire to continue bringing the gospel to places where Jesus has not yet been proclaimed. What stands out is his humility. Paul doesn't celebrate his own accomplishments. Again and again, he points to what Christ has done through him. God's mission has always been bigger than one person. Every believer has a part to play, and every act of faithfulness contributes to the spread of the gospel.

The ark comes back and Israel celebrates — until some treat God’s presence like it’s ordinary. Like it’s theirs to handle however they want. The consequences are severe. God is near. He is also holy. And you don’t get to treat him like he’s casual. This episode sits in that tension — what it means to approach a God who is close enough to speak to you and holy enough to demand your reverence. He ain’t one of your little friends. And that’s actually the best news you’ve ever heard.

Closeness for Casualness | 1 Samuel 6

The Philistines put the ark in their temple next to their god Dagon — a victory lap. They wake up and Dagon is face down on the floor. They set him back up. Next morning — face down again, this time in pieces. God doesn’t need favorable circumstances to be God. He doesn’t need Israel to win the battle. He doesn’t need to be on the winning side. He just is who he is — even in enemy territory. This episode is about what it looks like to trust that when everything around you says otherwise.

What Looked Like a Loss | 1 Samuel 5 

Israel is losing and they bring the ark into battle like a good luck charm. A formula. A way to get God to do what they want without actually trusting who he is. It doesn’t work. The ark is captured. The battle is lost. And underneath the defeat is the real problem — they wanted God’s power without God himself. This episode gets honest about every version of that we still do today.
