TARGET | Win This Year: Week 1

Winning isn’t some far off, lofty goal for the elite. You and I can win in whatever stage of life we are in right now. The first step in winning this year: Set a TARGET.

1
00:00:09.480 --> 00:00:13.140
Whoever said loserly-ness is next to godliness?

2
00:00:14.880 --> 00:00:16.310
A loser, that's who.

3
00:00:17.000 --> 00:00:18.290
You want to win this year?

4
00:00:19.040 --> 00:00:20.390
I want to win this year.

5
00:00:20.690 --> 00:00:25.460
God Almighty wants you and I both to win this year.

6
00:00:27.140 --> 00:00:28.130
Are you ready to win?

7
00:00:28.850 --> 00:00:29.720
I sure am.

8
00:00:30.830 --> 00:00:33.800
Let's win. Win this year.

9
00:00:33.800 --> 00:00:34.040
WIN!

10
00:00:45.270 --> 00:00:46.340
- Welcome to Crossroads.

11
00:00:46.350 --> 00:00:47.050
My name's Lena.

12
00:00:47.370 --> 00:00:51.390
And we're so glad to have you joining us online, maybe for the very first time.

13
00:00:51.720 --> 00:00:54.270
Crossroads is a church that was started for people

14
00:00:54.270 --> 00:00:57.240
who had given up on church, but not necessarily on God.

15
00:00:57.270 --> 00:01:00.630
And so regardless of where you are spiritually today,

16
00:01:00.630 --> 00:01:01.860
you're in the right spot.

17
00:01:01.890 --> 00:01:04.710
And we're so glad to have you with us online.

18
00:01:04.950 --> 00:01:10.170
We're starting a brand new series to kick off 2020 called Win This Year.

19
00:01:10.470 --> 00:01:13.170
And in this series, we're going to spend four weeks

20
00:01:13.170 --> 00:01:16.140
talking about what it means to win because Jesus came

21
00:01:16.140 --> 00:01:18.720
that you might have life to the full,

22
00:01:18.720 --> 00:01:20.760
the fullest life you could possibly have.

23
00:01:21.030 --> 00:01:22.290
And that means winning.

24
00:01:22.350 --> 00:01:26.410
And so we want to see all of us in a place where we can win this year.

25
00:01:26.430 --> 00:01:30.240
And I believe that we're gonna get good stuff out of the next hour together.

26
00:01:30.480 --> 00:01:33.000
And so let's get started with Win This Year.

27
00:05:41.370 --> 00:05:43.190
- Y'all came ready to sing today.

28
00:05:43.520 --> 00:05:44.180
This is great.

29
00:05:44.330 --> 00:05:46.310
2020 is starting off right in this room.

30
00:05:47.840 --> 00:05:49.760
I'm ready for growth in 2020.

31
00:05:50.300 --> 00:05:53.560
I'm ready for new adventures for me and my family, so, yeah.

32
00:05:55.850 --> 00:05:58.060
So one of the ways we're going after that, my wife and I,

33
00:05:58.150 --> 00:06:00.830
in six weeks we'll get on a plane and go to India together

34
00:06:00.830 --> 00:06:02.120
on our first Go Trip together.

35
00:06:03.190 --> 00:06:03.400
Yeah.

36
00:06:06.090 --> 00:06:08.100
New adventures, not me going away,

37
00:06:08.100 --> 00:06:10.890
but us going together to make our family stronger.

38
00:06:12.220 --> 00:06:16.330
So 2019 was like, we got to see the goodness of God,

39
00:06:16.330 --> 00:06:17.350
His faithfulness with us.

40
00:06:18.180 --> 00:06:20.860
2020 we're asking for growth.

41
00:06:21.520 --> 00:06:23.700
2020 I want to see breakthrough.

42
00:10:47.700 --> 00:10:54.170
God, there's no one else that I will go to with my whole life

43
00:10:54.170 --> 00:10:57.650
to say I put all my hopes and all my trust in You.

44
00:10:58.610 --> 00:11:01.670
I'm banking everything on You, God, everything,

45
00:11:04.660 --> 00:11:06.790
because you've shown Yourself to be powerful,

46
00:11:06.790 --> 00:11:10.810
to be good and faithful and true.

47
00:11:12.410 --> 00:11:16.730
So I sing my guts out to You, my heart out to You,

48
00:11:16.730 --> 00:11:17.790
because that is who You are.

49
00:11:18.830 --> 00:11:23.860
Thank You for showing us that in Jesus

50
00:11:23.860 --> 00:11:26.700
and each and every day for those of us who walk with You, God.

51
00:11:27.980 --> 00:11:31.680
I love You. I praise You because of who You are.

52
00:11:35.390 --> 00:11:36.170
Thanks for singing with us. [ applause ]

53
00:11:41.160 --> 00:11:43.100
If you're new with us, this place can feel big.

54
00:11:43.130 --> 00:11:45.110
Trust me, I was new just a couple years ago.

55
00:11:45.140 --> 00:11:47.300
So this place can feel big.

56
00:11:47.350 --> 00:11:48.490
Let's make it feel a little smaller.

57
00:11:48.500 --> 00:11:50.720
Turn to somebody around you and say, "Happy New Year, good to see today."

58
00:12:02.310 --> 00:12:05.800
- I am excited to dig into what it means to Win This Year,

59
00:12:05.800 --> 00:12:09.580
what it means for God to care about me winning,

60
00:12:09.610 --> 00:12:12.310
what it means for God to care about you winning.

61
00:12:12.460 --> 00:12:15.400
And so we've got ways as a church all week long

62
00:12:15.400 --> 00:12:17.020
for you to be engaging with God,

63
00:12:17.020 --> 00:12:19.690
engaging with other people and engaging with the church,

64
00:12:19.870 --> 00:12:22.780
which is God's rescue plan for all of humanity.

65
00:12:23.020 --> 00:12:25.720
And so if you want, you could download the Crossroads App today,

66
00:12:25.750 --> 00:12:27.160
the Crossroads Anywhere App.

67
00:12:27.400 --> 00:12:30.580
Take Crossroads Anywhere you are during the week.

68
00:12:30.850 --> 00:12:32.710
I love being in the app.

69
00:12:32.710 --> 00:12:36.880
Just about daily I do my Bible reading in the Crossroads app

70
00:12:37.090 --> 00:12:39.880
and I get to see what other people in our community have shared,

71
00:12:39.880 --> 00:12:41.170
what they're praying for,

72
00:12:41.170 --> 00:12:44.290
what they're talking to God about in the midst of that scripture.

73
00:12:44.440 --> 00:12:47.650
And then maybe my very favorite part of the app

74
00:12:47.650 --> 00:12:51.580
is getting to pray for other people and submit my own prayer requests

75
00:12:51.580 --> 00:12:53.800
and getting notifications when other people,

76
00:12:53.800 --> 00:12:57.400
some who I know and some who I don't, pray for me

77
00:12:57.400 --> 00:12:59.200
on the day that I asked for prayer.

78
00:12:59.230 --> 00:13:00.250
It's pretty incredible.

79
00:13:00.490 --> 00:13:04.270
Not to mention all of the great content and podcasts and articles

80
00:13:04.270 --> 00:13:07.600
and things that are in the app for you to read and watch

81
00:13:07.600 --> 00:13:08.800
and listen to all week long.

82
00:13:09.070 --> 00:13:11.980
So if you want to get the best out of Crossroads,

83
00:13:11.980 --> 00:13:13.980
download the Crossroads Anywhere App today.

84
00:13:14.320 --> 00:13:17.320
I think your week and this year is going to be better for it.

85
00:13:17.840 --> 00:13:19.780
You know, we have lots of other ways for you

86
00:13:19.780 --> 00:13:22.120
to be connecting with people and connecting to the church.

87
00:13:22.210 --> 00:13:24.770
And so you can chat with us on the Crossroads Web site.

88
00:13:25.000 --> 00:13:27.310
There's a chat box in the bottom right hand corner

89
00:13:27.520 --> 00:13:31.930
and we have real live people on the other end of that chat system

90
00:13:32.110 --> 00:13:34.810
who would love to pray for you, answer your questions,

91
00:13:34.810 --> 00:13:37.030
help get you connected to the church.

92
00:13:37.310 --> 00:13:39.520
And maybe this year in 2020 you've said,

93
00:13:39.520 --> 00:13:41.170
"I really want to dive all in.

94
00:13:41.200 --> 00:13:44.740
I want to go deeper into my spiritual growth.

95
00:13:44.770 --> 00:13:48.010
I want to go deeper into my relationship with other people.

96
00:13:48.100 --> 00:13:49.990
I want to try leading something."

97
00:13:50.380 --> 00:13:53.260
Well, we have a brand new group season

98
00:13:53.260 --> 00:13:54.760
that's starting here in about a month.

99
00:13:55.000 --> 00:13:57.010
And now is the time for you to be considering:

100
00:13:57.220 --> 00:14:02.230
Do I want to lead a group online or in person in my city,

101
00:14:02.230 --> 00:14:04.500
from my home, from my hometown?

102
00:14:04.540 --> 00:14:06.970
And so if you want to do that, chat with us.

103
00:14:06.970 --> 00:14:09.370
We'd love to help get you started

104
00:14:09.370 --> 00:14:12.430
in the group leader application process

105
00:14:12.430 --> 00:14:16.010
and getting you set up to lead a group of people near you in 2020.

106
00:14:16.120 --> 00:14:19.150
So let's get started with Win This Year,

107
00:14:19.150 --> 00:14:20.890
Week 1, you've got to have a target.

108
00:14:21.430 --> 00:14:23.710
- Hey, welcome, to everybody, to Columbus,

109
00:14:23.710 --> 00:14:27.400
our first weekend having real services in Columbus, Ohio.

110
00:14:27.670 --> 00:14:30.040
Awesome, awesome. I hope you have a great, great time today.

111
00:14:30.360 --> 00:14:33.400
I've been looking forward to this series for a long, long time.

112
00:14:33.760 --> 00:14:36.430
And I hope you are, too.

113
00:14:36.460 --> 00:14:39.090
So let's pray before we get into it.

114
00:14:39.090 --> 00:14:42.610
God, thank You that you're God that gives us the ability laugh.

115
00:14:42.610 --> 00:14:44.140
You give us the ability to think.

116
00:14:44.620 --> 00:14:46.900
You give us the ability to have goals,

117
00:14:46.900 --> 00:14:48.850
the ability to have the exhilaration of winning

118
00:14:48.850 --> 00:14:51.310
and even the feeling that comes from losing.

119
00:14:51.810 --> 00:14:54.390
I want more of us to feel the exhilaration

120
00:14:54.390 --> 00:14:56.620
and have a life going in the right direction

121
00:14:56.620 --> 00:14:57.970
and getting to the right place.

122
00:14:58.660 --> 00:15:02.680
So help me to be Your mouthpiece on this and be helpful and clear,

123
00:15:02.680 --> 00:15:05.120
most importantly, in alignment with Your truth.

124
00:15:05.140 --> 00:15:07.960
And I pray these things according to the character

125
00:15:07.960 --> 00:15:09.160
and identity of Jesus.

126
00:15:09.580 --> 00:15:09.970
Amen.

127
00:15:11.800 --> 00:15:18.130
Do you realize that 2019 was the best year ever?

128
00:15:20.660 --> 00:15:26.830
I'll say that again: 2019 is the best year ever,

129
00:15:27.100 --> 00:15:31.150
at least according to something I read in The New York Times.

130
00:15:31.150 --> 00:15:31.630
It says this:

131
00:15:40.150 --> 00:15:41.620
You say, "How can this be?"

132
00:15:41.830 --> 00:15:49.600
As recently as 1950, 27% of all children died by age 15.

133
00:15:49.960 --> 00:15:53.320
That figure has dropped 4% over time.

134
00:15:53.350 --> 00:15:54.460
That's amazing.

135
00:15:54.890 --> 00:15:57.070
The drop in the graph goes down, down, down.

136
00:15:57.100 --> 00:16:02.830
Every single day in recent years, another 325,000 people

137
00:16:03.100 --> 00:16:05.440
got their first access to electricity.

138
00:16:06.400 --> 00:16:07.840
Every day, 325,000 people.

139
00:16:08.070 --> 00:16:14.080
Every day 200,000 people got fresh piped water,

140
00:16:14.710 --> 00:16:16.310
every single day, 200,000.

141
00:16:17.080 --> 00:16:22.450
Every single day 650,000 new people gained access to the web.

142
00:16:23.110 --> 00:16:25.810
That means access to information, every single day.

143
00:16:26.050 --> 00:16:32.560
In 1981, 42% of the population endured what's known as extreme poverty,

144
00:16:32.560 --> 00:16:36.670
that is living under $2 a day or less.

145
00:16:36.700 --> 00:16:40.490
42% of everyone in the entire world in 1981

146
00:16:40.490 --> 00:16:42.670
42% were living on less than $2 a day.

147
00:16:43.210 --> 00:16:46.810
That portion has plunged to right now it's less than 10%

148
00:16:47.830 --> 00:16:50.800
of the entire world is in extreme poverty.

149
00:16:50.900 --> 00:16:53.050
You can clap for any of these things you want clap for,

150
00:16:53.900 --> 00:16:55.420
any of 'em, you can clap, clap, clap.

151
00:16:55.600 --> 00:16:56.290
It's amazing.

152
00:16:57.190 --> 00:16:59.620
Literacy, where we are literacy wise,

153
00:16:59.620 --> 00:17:03.100
the literacy charts keep going up, up, up, up.

154
00:17:03.760 --> 00:17:06.640
I know we all want to be depressed about the state of the world.

155
00:17:06.670 --> 00:17:08.440
If you want to be depressed about the state of the world,

156
00:17:08.570 --> 00:17:11.640
well, sorry, you just want to be depressed because

157
00:17:11.640 --> 00:17:12.910
the state of the world is actually

158
00:17:12.910 --> 00:17:15.130
going a very, very good direction holistically.

159
00:17:16.120 --> 00:17:18.160
Now, let's not care about the world, just disregard the world.

160
00:17:20.200 --> 00:17:22.210
This series really isn't about the world, it's about you.

161
00:17:22.880 --> 00:17:25.630
It's about you. Yeah, it can be about you sometimes.

162
00:17:26.290 --> 00:17:26.800
It's about you.

163
00:17:27.580 --> 00:17:28.880
You are part of the world.

164
00:17:28.900 --> 00:17:30.300
God has created you.

165
00:17:30.310 --> 00:17:32.500
He has planted you on this world.

166
00:17:32.530 --> 00:17:36.580
And He wants you to have a life that wins.

167
00:17:36.600 --> 00:17:37.550
He wants you to win.

168
00:17:37.570 --> 00:17:40.720
He wants you to go to a new place.

169
00:17:41.230 --> 00:17:45.490
The very concept of winning, when I think win,

170
00:17:45.490 --> 00:17:48.400
many of us might think of Vince Lombardi who said this:

171
00:18:03.770 --> 00:18:06.170
I could just feel some of the churchy church types in here.

172
00:18:06.200 --> 00:18:07.190
I can just feel you like...

173
00:18:08.060 --> 00:18:10.290
Some of you churchy church types are like,

174
00:18:10.290 --> 00:18:12.770
"Winning? I came here to church.

175
00:18:13.190 --> 00:18:15.910
I don't wanna hear about winning and Vince Lombardi.

176
00:18:16.000 --> 00:18:18.470
Hey."

177
00:18:18.470 --> 00:18:21.010
I know. This is like -- This is a weird churchy church things.

178
00:18:21.140 --> 00:18:25.430
I'm sorry to burst your buzzle, burst your bubble.

179
00:18:25.700 --> 00:18:27.680
Burst your buzzle too, I'll do that while I'm at it.

180
00:18:28.130 --> 00:18:32.300
Sorry to burst your bubble, but loserly-ness is not next to godliness.

181
00:18:32.840 --> 00:18:35.510
I don't know why we think that not doing well

182
00:18:35.510 --> 00:18:38.800
and losing is somehow of God.

183
00:18:38.830 --> 00:18:40.000
And if you're doing really well

184
00:18:40.000 --> 00:18:42.610
or someone's doing really well, then so must be away from God.

185
00:18:42.730 --> 00:18:44.590
That's not what the scriptures teach.

186
00:18:45.160 --> 00:18:48.850
The Book of 1 Corinthians 9:24 the Apostle Paul says:

187
00:18:53.730 --> 00:18:55.830
He says run such as to obtain, or other translations say,

188
00:18:55.840 --> 00:18:59.220
Run in such a way as to win.

189
00:18:59.960 --> 00:19:00.730
Win.

190
00:19:01.420 --> 00:19:03.820
This doesn't mean beat somebody next to you.

191
00:19:03.850 --> 00:19:05.680
This doesn't mean I'm supposed to beat you

192
00:19:05.680 --> 00:19:06.700
or you're supposed to beat me.

193
00:19:06.970 --> 00:19:10.000
It means that each one of us has a specific lane,

194
00:19:10.000 --> 00:19:13.180
each one of us has something to be about in our life.

195
00:19:13.960 --> 00:19:16.360
And you'll either win or you'll lose.

196
00:19:17.490 --> 00:19:20.520
And you have to not like the idea of losing.

197
00:19:20.520 --> 00:19:22.700
Vince Lombardi also said, "Show me good loser

198
00:19:22.700 --> 00:19:23.790
and I'll show you a loser."

199
00:19:25.260 --> 00:19:29.580
You have to have this thing that says, "No,

200
00:19:29.580 --> 00:19:32.900
I need the life that God is enabling me to have

201
00:19:32.900 --> 00:19:35.730
and I want to win in every area of life."

202
00:19:35.970 --> 00:19:37.950
This is a biblical commandment.

203
00:19:38.670 --> 00:19:39.690
It's a biblical commandment.

204
00:19:39.690 --> 00:19:42.740
If you like, the idea of don't, you know, steal things, good.

205
00:19:42.750 --> 00:19:45.060
You should also like to thing of you should win,

206
00:19:45.060 --> 00:19:46.950
because that's exactly what God says.

207
00:19:46.950 --> 00:19:48.750
It's exactly what it says in the Scriptures.

208
00:19:48.810 --> 00:19:51.930
And truth be told, most of us are not playing to win.

209
00:19:52.560 --> 00:19:54.620
Most of us are maybe playing not to lose.

210
00:19:54.620 --> 00:19:56.070
We're trying to not screw up our life.

211
00:19:56.610 --> 00:19:59.640
We're trying just to have everything be calm and even.

212
00:20:01.220 --> 00:20:02.960
This is the first weekend for the NFL playoffs.

213
00:20:02.960 --> 00:20:07.550
I saw a study of all the teams when they had critical decisions

214
00:20:07.550 --> 00:20:09.380
going into the final seconds of the game,

215
00:20:09.380 --> 00:20:11.900
the study said that when a team had the ability

216
00:20:11.900 --> 00:20:15.650
to kick the field goal for the win,

217
00:20:15.650 --> 00:20:17.150
kick the extra point for the win,

218
00:20:17.150 --> 00:20:20.120
or they had the ability to do a two point conversion for the win,

219
00:20:20.120 --> 00:20:23.030
the teams that kicked the extra points

220
00:20:23.030 --> 00:20:27.560
and then got into overtime lost way, way, way more

221
00:20:27.560 --> 00:20:29.030
than people who went for the 2 points

222
00:20:29.030 --> 00:20:31.800
and whether they lost or won in the two point conversion, they lost.

223
00:20:31.940 --> 00:20:34.550
Because there's something they believe in the psyche

224
00:20:34.550 --> 00:20:37.400
of a coach, of a team that's okay for a tie.

225
00:20:37.580 --> 00:20:40.640
That one overtime comes, they don't have what it takes to win

226
00:20:40.640 --> 00:20:41.300
and they lose at a much higher rate.

227
00:20:41.300 --> 00:20:45.590
So if you want to just not lose, play for tie,

228
00:20:45.590 --> 00:20:47.480
play for not getting in trouble with God

229
00:20:47.480 --> 00:20:49.310
or having people around you think you're a nice person.

230
00:20:50.120 --> 00:20:51.590
They might think you're a nice person,

231
00:20:51.590 --> 00:20:53.030
but it doesn't mean your life is going the right direction.

232
00:20:53.030 --> 00:20:55.130
It doesn't mean that you're going to actually win.

233
00:20:56.280 --> 00:20:59.600
The theme we're going to look at in the whole series

234
00:20:59.600 --> 00:21:01.820
is the theme of the Nation of Israel,

235
00:21:01.820 --> 00:21:05.480
specifically this one little segment in their history

236
00:21:05.480 --> 00:21:08.960
when they were under the leadership of a guy by the name of Joshua.

237
00:21:08.990 --> 00:21:11.690
Now it's important to have a little macro history

238
00:21:11.690 --> 00:21:12.830
of where Israel's come to this point.

239
00:21:12.830 --> 00:21:14.780
If this is your first time hearing this or a refresher,

240
00:21:14.780 --> 00:21:16.100
its really important to have in the back of our mind.

241
00:21:16.400 --> 00:21:17.100
So let me give it to you.

242
00:21:17.180 --> 00:21:19.640
The Nation of Israel, they're in bondage,

243
00:21:19.640 --> 00:21:21.530
they're in slavery to Egypt.

244
00:21:21.860 --> 00:21:24.340
There is the leader that's supposed to come and take them away.

245
00:21:24.590 --> 00:21:28.160
Charlton Heston -- or I mean, Moses comes to take

246
00:21:28.160 --> 00:21:30.200
the Nation of Israel out of slavery.

247
00:21:30.230 --> 00:21:33.480
And miraculous things happen, God shows up on their account.

248
00:21:33.870 --> 00:21:37.220
There is these crazy plagues that happen that caused

249
00:21:37.220 --> 00:21:40.580
the the Egyptians to let them go, to release them.

250
00:21:40.580 --> 00:21:41.170
So the Nation of Israel gets loose.

251
00:21:42.320 --> 00:21:45.770
They come out, they come up against a sea, a big body of water.

252
00:21:45.980 --> 00:21:49.610
And now Egyptians and the pharaoh is coming after them,

253
00:21:49.610 --> 00:21:50.780
coming up on their backside.

254
00:21:51.350 --> 00:21:54.320
Moses comes out, he takes his staff, and by God's power,

255
00:21:54.320 --> 00:21:57.110
he jams it in the ground and the water opens up.

256
00:21:57.110 --> 00:21:59.390
And they get across the water.

257
00:21:59.600 --> 00:22:02.300
And then pharaoh in Egypt starts to follow

258
00:22:02.300 --> 00:22:04.730
and they get halfway through and God lets the water go and they drown.

259
00:22:04.740 --> 00:22:06.300
And you think, "Oh, my goodness, you've won.

260
00:22:06.410 --> 00:22:07.510
Amazing. You've won.

261
00:22:07.520 --> 00:22:08.150
You've won."

262
00:22:09.050 --> 00:22:11.060
Well, none necessarily,

263
00:22:11.060 --> 00:22:13.490
because getting out of slavery wasn't the goal.

264
00:22:13.910 --> 00:22:16.620
Getting into the Promised Land is the goal.

265
00:22:16.620 --> 00:22:18.200
That's winning.

266
00:22:18.680 --> 00:22:21.380
Winning was not -- from God standpoint was not,

267
00:22:21.410 --> 00:22:22.490
"Oh, good, you're out of slavery."

268
00:22:22.490 --> 00:22:26.270
Winning was going to get you to the Promised Land.

269
00:22:26.800 --> 00:22:29.210
And from the time they get out of slavery

270
00:22:29.210 --> 00:22:33.020
to the time they actually win is a long, arduous thing.

271
00:22:33.450 --> 00:22:33.650
'

272
00:22:33.650 --> 00:22:35.570
They're complainers. They're belly acres.

273
00:22:35.570 --> 00:22:39.200
They complain when there isn't water when they wanted to have happen.

274
00:22:39.380 --> 00:22:42.500
They complain when God gives them food miraculously,

275
00:22:42.500 --> 00:22:46.700
but it's the same food day in and day out, over and over again.

276
00:22:46.910 --> 00:22:48.380
They don't want it.

277
00:22:48.410 --> 00:22:50.180
They're having a hard time with it.

278
00:22:51.050 --> 00:22:53.440
They pick a person from each one of the twelve tribes

279
00:22:53.440 --> 00:22:54.950
and they go into the Promised Land

280
00:22:54.950 --> 00:22:56.570
to scout out what it's going to look like.

281
00:22:56.960 --> 00:22:59.270
So when they go over, they come back with a report and say,

282
00:22:59.270 --> 00:23:00.600
"Man, it's amazing.

283
00:23:00.600 --> 00:23:02.600
Yeah, it's a land of milk and honey.

284
00:23:03.380 --> 00:23:04.640
It's awesome."

285
00:23:05.060 --> 00:23:07.520
The only problem is, ten of the scouts say,

286
00:23:07.520 --> 00:23:10.410
"The only problem is there's huge, massive giant there.

287
00:23:10.460 --> 00:23:11.810
We can't do it. We can't do it."

288
00:23:12.200 --> 00:23:13.160
They're saying we can't do.

289
00:23:13.160 --> 00:23:15.230
And all the people of Israel are like you, "We can't do it.

290
00:23:16.220 --> 00:23:17.120
Oh, no, we can't win."

291
00:23:19.010 --> 00:23:22.370
Meanwhile, these people are seeing genuine, legitimate miracles.

292
00:23:23.000 --> 00:23:24.740
These people's have seen waters parted.

293
00:23:24.740 --> 00:23:26.870
These people have seen plagues brought by their God.

294
00:23:27.080 --> 00:23:30.170
These people have seen like miraculous visions

295
00:23:30.170 --> 00:23:33.230
of a pillar of fire that's leading them

296
00:23:33.230 --> 00:23:34.010
or a cloud that's leading them.

297
00:23:34.020 --> 00:23:36.250
It's one of the ways God would speak to them and lead them.

298
00:23:36.270 --> 00:23:38.120
They're seeing all this stuff and yet, oh, no,

299
00:23:38.120 --> 00:23:40.040
when it comes down to something difficult.

300
00:23:40.260 --> 00:23:41.750
Oh, oh, can't do it.

301
00:23:41.750 --> 00:23:42.850
So finally God's fed up.

302
00:23:42.850 --> 00:23:43.670
He goes, "That's it.

303
00:23:44.230 --> 00:23:45.470
You're all bunch of freakin losers."

304
00:23:45.470 --> 00:23:46.940
That's exactly what it says in the Bible,

305
00:23:46.940 --> 00:23:47.750
they're all a bunch freaking losers.

306
00:23:48.200 --> 00:23:50.330
He says that. He says you're all a bunch freakin losers.

307
00:23:50.540 --> 00:23:53.240
You're -- none of you are going in until you all die,

308
00:23:54.620 --> 00:23:57.830
except for the two spies, Joshua and Caleb,

309
00:23:57.830 --> 00:23:59.240
who said we can do it.

310
00:23:59.270 --> 00:24:01.460
Everyone else believed the ten negative spies.

311
00:24:01.700 --> 00:24:04.010
So now what I'm going to do is I've got people here

312
00:24:04.190 --> 00:24:05.750
who don't have a winning mindset.

313
00:24:06.050 --> 00:24:09.050
I'm going to wait for all of you to die, all of you die.

314
00:24:09.290 --> 00:24:13.520
And once you die, whoever has now been born in that timespan,

315
00:24:13.520 --> 00:24:15.230
they're gonna go into the Promised Land.

316
00:24:15.290 --> 00:24:16.220
And so that's what's happened.

317
00:24:16.220 --> 00:24:18.290
Now the last person has died.

318
00:24:18.440 --> 00:24:19.560
They've been wandering in the desert.

319
00:24:19.580 --> 00:24:20.720
You heard wandering in the desert for 40 years.

320
00:24:20.740 --> 00:24:21.890
That's why they're one in the desert.

321
00:24:22.130 --> 00:24:24.080
They're not wandering the desert because they're lost.

322
00:24:24.320 --> 00:24:25.670
They're wandering in the desert

323
00:24:25.670 --> 00:24:26.960
waiting for the freaking losers to die.

324
00:24:28.970 --> 00:24:30.970
You wonder if, like, maybe they're taken snakes

325
00:24:30.970 --> 00:24:32.350
and throwing them in people's sleeping bags,

326
00:24:32.350 --> 00:24:35.410
"That guy's got to die, because I want to win,

327
00:24:35.410 --> 00:24:36.100
but he's got to die."

328
00:24:37.360 --> 00:24:38.950
I mean, you just wonder what they were doing.

329
00:24:39.610 --> 00:24:46.660
So now they come up to a Jordan River, which marks the Promised Land.

330
00:24:46.690 --> 00:24:48.790
Guess what, friends? 2019 is dead.

331
00:24:48.820 --> 00:24:50.740
I don't care how good or how bad it was, it's dead.

332
00:24:51.160 --> 00:24:52.870
It's in the back, background.

333
00:24:52.990 --> 00:24:55.090
Nation of Israel, whatever happened to part the waters,

334
00:24:55.090 --> 00:24:56.470
that was dead, it was way back there.

335
00:24:56.950 --> 00:24:58.780
Releasing from slavery, that good, dead.

336
00:24:58.810 --> 00:24:59.620
Buddy, that was gone.

337
00:24:59.650 --> 00:25:05.200
Friends, your 2019 means nothing for your 2020, nothing.

338
00:25:05.250 --> 00:25:08.530
It may have set you up for something, but 2019's over.

339
00:25:09.010 --> 00:25:11.600
You're at a threshold right now in this new decade.

340
00:25:12.750 --> 00:25:16.230
New decade, amazing, new decade.

341
00:25:17.180 --> 00:25:22.010
You and I get to decide, do I want to win or do I want to just be?

342
00:25:22.540 --> 00:25:26.680
And so Joshua, in Joshua 1:6,

343
00:25:26.680 --> 00:25:30.550
who's the new leader who succeeded Moses, he says this:

344
00:25:51.370 --> 00:25:55.060
Or that you may win wherever you go.

345
00:25:56.050 --> 00:26:00.070
For us to win, we have to be able to have a sense of vision.

346
00:26:00.070 --> 00:26:01.450
Where are we going?

347
00:26:02.460 --> 00:26:03.540
Four things for today.

348
00:26:04.520 --> 00:26:07.020
The first is this: to understand vision,

349
00:26:07.020 --> 00:26:08.670
to understand where you're going,

350
00:26:08.700 --> 00:26:11.370
I don't like the term vision, goals, all this stuff.

351
00:26:11.700 --> 00:26:13.260
That sounds is too nebulous to me.

352
00:26:13.700 --> 00:26:16.260
I'll boil it down to this: You have to know what you want.

353
00:26:17.550 --> 00:26:18.900
What is it you want?

354
00:26:18.960 --> 00:26:22.650
You have to know what you want.

355
00:26:23.430 --> 00:26:26.090
What is it that burns inside of you?

356
00:26:26.250 --> 00:26:29.360
This is why we don't get our New Year's resolutions.

357
00:26:29.370 --> 00:26:31.950
They don't actually happen because we don't really want them.

358
00:26:32.860 --> 00:26:33.900
I'll get into that in just a moment.

359
00:26:34.140 --> 00:26:36.960
We have to figure out what is it that we want.

360
00:26:36.990 --> 00:26:38.370
Now, we're gonna show a video right now,

361
00:26:38.370 --> 00:26:39.930
which is something that I want.

362
00:26:40.140 --> 00:26:41.550
It's a rather lengthy video.

363
00:26:41.550 --> 00:26:43.320
It's 8 minutes and 30 seconds.

364
00:26:43.940 --> 00:26:45.810
And let me tell you why, what I want about this.

365
00:26:45.810 --> 00:26:47.510
It's a project that I've been personally working on

366
00:26:47.510 --> 00:26:48.950
and many people around here at Crossroads

367
00:26:48.960 --> 00:26:49.830
have been working on it for two years.

368
00:26:50.250 --> 00:26:52.530
Because I love when people come to environment like this

369
00:26:52.530 --> 00:26:53.970
to learn about God, that's wonderful.

370
00:26:54.210 --> 00:26:56.550
But I also know that most people aren't coming

371
00:26:56.550 --> 00:26:59.640
to environments like this to have things put into their mind.

372
00:26:59.640 --> 00:27:04.110
Most people are going to Netflix, are going to Amazon Prime.

373
00:27:04.500 --> 00:27:06.840
And if I want to influence or if we want

374
00:27:06.840 --> 00:27:09.480
to influence positively people to understand God,

375
00:27:09.480 --> 00:27:11.070
we've got to get in those platforms,

376
00:27:11.070 --> 00:27:14.320
not just expecting people get into a Crossroads some day,

377
00:27:14.520 --> 00:27:16.650
though we'd love that to happen or whether you're gathered

378
00:27:16.830 --> 00:27:18.510
as a Crossroads group in your home right now.

379
00:27:19.620 --> 00:27:26.190
So we have in January, January 26 coming to Amazon Prime

380
00:27:26.490 --> 00:27:27.920
is a series that we brought out.

381
00:27:27.930 --> 00:27:30.090
Ad it comes out called Phantom Lake.

382
00:27:30.810 --> 00:27:34.350
It comes on, streams on Amazon Prime on January 26.

383
00:27:34.350 --> 00:27:37.140
I'm hoping you'll be a part of it in some way, shape, or form.

384
00:27:37.170 --> 00:27:40.650
It's about -- it's about people who are trying something new

385
00:27:40.650 --> 00:27:43.500
to go to new territory, being on motorcycles

386
00:27:43.500 --> 00:27:45.900
who aren't hardcore motorcyclists, who've never been out west.

387
00:27:46.200 --> 00:27:49.440
Trying to help them understand that pushing through

388
00:27:49.650 --> 00:27:54.450
difficulties in the physical realm on your motorcycle,

389
00:27:54.750 --> 00:27:57.840
will enable you to win and push through difficulties

390
00:27:57.870 --> 00:28:01.470
in areas that really matter in your life.

391
00:28:02.010 --> 00:28:04.600
It's a huge, huge deal and I'm pretty excited about it.

392
00:28:04.620 --> 00:28:07.710
So we're gonna take a look at a clip of this.

393
00:28:07.770 --> 00:28:09.740
It's got tie into what we're gonna do with the rest of our day.

394
00:28:09.760 --> 00:28:11.970
But before we do it, we're also going to

395
00:28:11.970 --> 00:28:14.790
for the first time this year, the first time this decade,

396
00:28:15.420 --> 00:28:18.450
we're gonna have these people with bags going to pass down aisles,

397
00:28:18.450 --> 00:28:20.430
or you can go to Crossroads.net/give.

398
00:28:20.430 --> 00:28:21.690
Crossroads is a tithing church.

399
00:28:21.720 --> 00:28:23.290
People who are hardcore into God tithe.

400
00:28:23.700 --> 00:28:25.620
We give 10% of our money to God.

401
00:28:26.010 --> 00:28:28.740
Others of us are trying to be someplace else in that journey.

402
00:28:28.740 --> 00:28:30.300
Wherever you are on your journey, if you're new today,

403
00:28:30.300 --> 00:28:32.220
we're just beside you here, help us to serve you.

404
00:28:32.550 --> 00:28:36.180
And as we had the opportunity to to be generous,

405
00:28:36.360 --> 00:28:40.440
we're going to take a look at 8:30 of Phantom Lake.

406
00:28:45.190 --> 00:28:48.610
- Across the rugged terrain of Colorado and Wyoming,

407
00:28:50.430 --> 00:28:52.890
10 unlikely riders pursue

408
00:28:52.890 --> 00:28:57.270
an elusive mountain top destination called Phantom Lake.

409
00:29:00.170 --> 00:29:02.690
Anmong them are a single grad student.

410
00:29:02.920 --> 00:29:04.030
- It's just me and Alexa.

411
00:29:04.450 --> 00:29:05.350
Alexa can't give me a hug.

412
00:29:05.460 --> 00:29:07.010
- A photographer and tinkerer.

413
00:29:07.100 --> 00:29:07.730
- This is pretty sweet.

414
00:29:07.760 --> 00:29:10.240
If you don't have a pair these, you need to get 'em.

415
00:29:10.240 --> 00:29:11.780
- An adventure starved accountant.

416
00:29:12.080 --> 00:29:13.280
- I'm domesticated.

417
00:29:13.550 --> 00:29:14.830
I need an adventure, please.

418
00:29:15.420 --> 00:29:17.210
- A second career jazz singer.

419
00:29:17.360 --> 00:29:18.380
- This really is real.

420
00:29:18.410 --> 00:29:19.370
This is really happening.

421
00:29:19.430 --> 00:29:20.440
- A college student.

422
00:29:20.440 --> 00:29:23.090
This is my valid motorcycle's license, in case you were wondering.

423
00:29:23.120 --> 00:29:24.800
- A multi-business entrepreneur.

424
00:29:24.920 --> 00:29:26.860
- As far as my off-roading experience,

425
00:29:26.860 --> 00:29:27.830
there's a first time for everything.

426
00:29:28.260 --> 00:29:30.830
- A semi-retired lobbyist.

427
00:29:31.010 --> 00:29:32.390
- You gotta keep that smile.

428
00:29:32.850 --> 00:29:33.020
Oh, yeah.

429
00:29:34.420 --> 00:29:35.630
- A quiet engineer.

430
00:29:35.820 --> 00:29:39.340
- Hopefully I make some more close friends on this trip coming up.

431
00:29:39.340 --> 00:29:40.850
- And a diligent young father.

432
00:29:41.120 --> 00:29:43.160
- I have a fear of heights and I overcome that fear.

433
00:29:43.220 --> 00:29:47.030
- Long time pastor, adventurer, and father figure,

434
00:29:47.030 --> 00:29:48.550
Brian Tonin will lead the way.

435
00:29:48.560 --> 00:29:49.970
- Jesus tells a story about God.

436
00:29:50.530 --> 00:29:53.190
He says what God does is He gives...

437
00:29:53.190 --> 00:29:57.300
- To make it to the end they must overcome mental fatigue,

438
00:29:57.300 --> 00:30:04.660
physical fatigue, and even the landscape itself.

439
00:30:04.670 --> 00:30:07.850
Will these writers have the determination, stamina,

440
00:30:07.850 --> 00:30:09.950
and courage to make it to the end?

441
00:30:13.240 --> 00:30:14.580
- I wake up every day and I say to God,

442
00:30:14.580 --> 00:30:16.380
"God, whatever you've got going on today, I want to be a part of it."

443
00:30:19.310 --> 00:30:21.300
We're gonna do something really unorthodox

444
00:30:21.300 --> 00:30:24.180
in taking inexperienced riders on this trip.

445
00:30:24.420 --> 00:30:26.010
You've got to be in a situation

446
00:30:26.010 --> 00:30:27.240
that's foreign to what you're used to.

447
00:30:27.270 --> 00:30:29.550
New riders are going to be challenged.

448
00:30:30.830 --> 00:30:33.650
I have this feeling that everyone has an adventure taht they're on.

449
00:30:33.860 --> 00:30:36.140
I want to see real people in the real world

450
00:30:36.140 --> 00:30:38.120
with real life adventures learn how to conquer them.

451
00:30:38.270 --> 00:30:40.060
That's why I want to this trip with people who need it.

452
00:30:42.540 --> 00:30:44.550
If we're not in a difficult position

453
00:30:44.550 --> 00:30:46.590
we don't grow the way we could grow.

454
00:30:46.920 --> 00:30:48.490
I learn when things are difficult.

455
00:30:48.600 --> 00:30:50.310
I learn when I get smacked in the mouth.

456
00:30:50.490 --> 00:30:51.780
I learn when I fall down.

457
00:30:52.080 --> 00:30:54.480
I don't want to fail because I didn't try hard enough.

458
00:30:55.720 --> 00:30:57.130
Some people would say, "Well, you're a pastor,

459
00:30:57.150 --> 00:30:58.800
shouldn't you just be doing Bible studies?"

460
00:30:59.300 --> 00:31:02.670
I'm about making real men and women stronger

461
00:31:02.670 --> 00:31:05.930
and this is a way that I found that does it.

462
00:31:14.820 --> 00:31:19.490
We start having the idea for a series around motorcycles

463
00:31:19.500 --> 00:31:21.690
when we realize that it relates to real life.

464
00:31:24.840 --> 00:31:26.730
All of us have adventures in our life,

465
00:31:26.920 --> 00:31:28.020
we have challenges in our life.

466
00:31:28.050 --> 00:31:31.740
And so a motorcycle and camping are just some physical things,

467
00:31:31.740 --> 00:31:33.960
that believe it or not, oftentimes correlate

468
00:31:33.960 --> 00:31:35.580
to some of the personal adventures

469
00:31:35.580 --> 00:31:36.660
and challenges that we're all doing.

470
00:31:37.110 --> 00:31:39.170
- The goal today, this is decision day.

471
00:31:40.050 --> 00:31:42.180
The goal is that we walk out of this room

472
00:31:42.180 --> 00:31:44.720
and we have the cast for this adventure trip.

473
00:31:45.140 --> 00:31:46.500
Make your teams, everybody.

474
00:31:48.210 --> 00:31:51.690
- If you're nervous, that's probably why we invited you here.

475
00:31:51.720 --> 00:31:54.090
There was people who really had their stuff together

476
00:31:54.090 --> 00:31:57.510
and our great riders and have been out west and this that,

477
00:31:57.510 --> 00:31:58.650
they weren't going to round two.

478
00:31:58.770 --> 00:32:00.630
This is not a riding competition.

479
00:32:00.750 --> 00:32:02.670
We want to sort of stretch us a bit.

480
00:32:11.570 --> 00:32:13.540
You're not impressing anybody if you're a great rider.

481
00:32:13.560 --> 00:32:15.740
You're not impressing anybody to go through the sandpit

482
00:32:15.740 --> 00:32:17.510
at 50 miles an hour, if you can.

483
00:32:17.660 --> 00:32:19.090
Just look at today as a fun thing.

484
00:32:19.100 --> 00:32:20.180
You're going to have fun today.

485
00:32:20.180 --> 00:32:22.520
Whether or not you're gonna go the next level or not

486
00:32:22.520 --> 00:32:23.870
is a bunch of variety of factors.

487
00:32:24.050 --> 00:32:25.550
You really can't mess this up.

488
00:32:25.580 --> 00:32:26.750
We just need to see where you are.

489
00:32:27.500 --> 00:32:30.890
- Everybody voted for Thomas. Is that right?

490
00:32:30.890 --> 00:32:30.900
- Um-hmm.

491
00:32:33.110 --> 00:32:35.440
- We're not grading only on riding ability.

492
00:32:36.020 --> 00:32:38.330
There's a whole range of things that we're looking at.

493
00:32:38.480 --> 00:32:39.830
- Getting another five out of six is...

494
00:32:47.970 --> 00:32:50.230
- So we have three votes for Bradley and three votes for Randy.

495
00:32:50.430 --> 00:32:51.690
Everybody gets two vote.

496
00:32:52.380 --> 00:32:56.390
You can double up somebody or even split it.

497
00:32:56.950 --> 00:32:58.540
And we're looking for two spots.

498
00:33:08.710 --> 00:33:12.250
Ok. I think this is our crew, guys.

499
00:33:12.720 --> 00:33:14.950
This is our list of riders.

500
00:33:16.360 --> 00:33:17.710
Let that sink in. Was does that feel like?

501
00:33:26.900 --> 00:33:29.450
- From this point out, I'm your contact.

502
00:33:30.530 --> 00:33:32.570
We're actually going to go to my favorite place

503
00:33:32.570 --> 00:33:33.800
in the whole world, Phantom Lake.

504
00:33:35.250 --> 00:33:36.650
It's called Phantom Lake for a reason.

505
00:33:37.450 --> 00:33:41.720
It will be the hardest riding you will have done in your life.

506
00:33:43.370 --> 00:33:44.770
Not everyone here is gonna get there.

507
00:33:45.600 --> 00:33:48.660
You could have mechanical breakdown, emotional breakdown.

508
00:33:49.260 --> 00:33:52.730
You could be physically just like, "I, you know, I can't do it."

509
00:33:53.610 --> 00:33:55.530
We're not just trying to have it all have a good adventure.

510
00:33:55.980 --> 00:33:58.470
We're trying to have something that's going to tap

511
00:33:58.470 --> 00:34:01.330
into something physically for you,

512
00:34:01.330 --> 00:34:02.740
that's going to tap into

513
00:34:02.740 --> 00:34:04.170
the real life adventure you have back home.

514
00:34:05.740 --> 00:34:07.390
I want you to get to Phantom Lake.

515
00:34:32.380 --> 00:34:35.000
- I want Brad in the back

516
00:34:35.000 --> 00:34:36.740
and I want the two ladies in front of him.

517
00:34:36.970 --> 00:34:39.230
We're going to see if we can get you guys synced up at all.

518
00:34:39.590 --> 00:34:42.290
Then whatever order you want to go in in front of that, that's fine.

519
00:34:42.710 --> 00:34:44.590
I'm going to change up our order as time goes on,

520
00:34:44.590 --> 00:34:46.940
as I kind of get a sense of, you know,

521
00:34:46.940 --> 00:34:48.660
where our riding skills are,

522
00:34:48.660 --> 00:34:49.820
how we're riding, all that stuff.

523
00:34:50.780 --> 00:34:54.860
God, I thank You for the adventure You invited us into.

524
00:34:54.890 --> 00:34:56.600
Thank You for the day we're going to have.

525
00:34:56.630 --> 00:34:58.370
Thank You that we don't have rain today.

526
00:34:58.710 --> 00:35:00.740
I thank You for the courage of everybody here.

527
00:35:00.740 --> 00:35:02.870
And God, just put Your grace on this ride,

528
00:35:02.870 --> 00:35:04.550
this trip, everybody's life.

529
00:35:04.910 --> 00:35:07.400
Help us to enjoy each other, enjoy You

530
00:35:07.400 --> 00:35:10.330
and enjoy an amazing week-long adventure.

531
00:35:10.400 --> 00:35:12.400
I pray these things according to Your name.

532
00:35:12.500 --> 00:35:12.810
Amen.

533
00:35:13.940 --> 00:35:16.200
Our first day and our first goal, Telluride.

534
00:35:16.370 --> 00:35:17.300
Sshould be an easy day.

535
00:35:17.300 --> 00:35:19.650
Six hours of riding on the highway.

536
00:35:19.710 --> 00:35:21.530
Very same, very predictable.

537
00:35:21.530 --> 00:35:22.400
Should be a piece of cake.

538
00:35:22.820 --> 00:35:24.410
Here's where it all starts, boys and girls.

539
00:35:25.580 --> 00:35:28.490
Every person on a bike is a self-contained unit.

540
00:35:29.690 --> 00:35:31.190
They're not getting any help.

541
00:35:32.650 --> 00:35:35.270
They are carrying their own water, their own food,

542
00:35:35.510 --> 00:35:36.890
and all of their supplies.

543
00:35:38.000 --> 00:35:41.160
This is the way adventure riding works in the real world

544
00:35:42.020 --> 00:35:43.670
and you could do this.

545
00:35:44.980 --> 00:35:48.250
I feel like a father figure with these folks.

546
00:35:48.730 --> 00:35:50.620
I've got more knowledge than they do.

547
00:35:50.950 --> 00:35:53.320
I've got more experience on this trail and they do.

548
00:35:53.570 --> 00:35:55.630
I've have more nights out camping than they do.

549
00:35:55.870 --> 00:35:58.540
So while they're not of my own DNA

550
00:35:58.600 --> 00:36:01.630
and I'm not carrying them financially like many dads do,

551
00:36:02.260 --> 00:36:04.960
I definitely have a role of nurturing them

552
00:36:04.960 --> 00:36:07.240
and protecting them and pushing them.

553
00:36:08.560 --> 00:36:10.050
- We can see the rest of the riders.

554
00:36:10.120 --> 00:36:14.470
I see maybe 400 yards ahead of us or something.

555
00:36:14.470 --> 00:36:16.430
- Keep a lookout for David on the side of the road.

556
00:36:18.430 --> 00:36:18.630
- I need to double check that.

557
00:36:18.630 --> 00:36:19.230
Somebody messed with the bike since I left it and --

558
00:36:19.230 --> 00:36:19.240
- Do you have any gas?

559
00:36:20.090 --> 00:36:20.790
- I think I need a little gas right now to get me to

560
00:36:29.750 --> 00:36:32.100
a station and then I want to put dry gas in because I don't want to...

561
00:36:32.360 --> 00:36:36.410
- I'm a little anxious about

562
00:36:36.410 --> 00:36:39.500
what God might have to strip out of me

563
00:36:39.500 --> 00:36:41.480
and I feel like that may happen on this trip.

564
00:36:42.170 --> 00:36:44.800
I'd really like to know what it is

565
00:36:44.800 --> 00:36:45.900
so that I can prepare for it, right?

566
00:36:51.250 --> 00:36:54.850
- What should be an easy start turns into a cluster really fast.

567
00:36:55.900 --> 00:36:59.390
We've got a guy who's got gas tank issues and fuel issues.

568
00:36:59.480 --> 00:37:03.490
We've got Sarah who stalls on the middle of the highway.

569
00:37:03.500 --> 00:37:05.810
We've got people who are getting separated and lost.

570
00:37:05.810 --> 00:37:09.500
They're ending up in downtown Denver,

571
00:37:09.500 --> 00:37:12.320
tens of miles away from where I am having a beer.

572
00:37:12.370 --> 00:37:14.660
I'm about to lose my freaking mind.

573
00:37:21.720 --> 00:37:22.710
- You might be happy.

574
00:37:22.800 --> 00:37:25.320
It's very frustrating for me to even watch that right there.

575
00:37:26.730 --> 00:37:28.620
Hardest trip I've ever done.

576
00:37:28.680 --> 00:37:31.770
And I'll tell you why it's frustrating because

577
00:37:31.770 --> 00:37:34.080
whenever you're trying to get to a new place,

578
00:37:34.170 --> 00:37:36.570
it is always frustrating.

579
00:37:37.110 --> 00:37:40.290
Staying where you are never has any X factors

580
00:37:40.290 --> 00:37:42.360
and there's never any frustration.

581
00:37:42.960 --> 00:37:45.330
But when you want something new,

582
00:37:45.480 --> 00:37:46.920
when you want something different.

583
00:37:46.920 --> 00:37:52.230
If you want something different for 2020, get ready for frustration.

584
00:37:52.710 --> 00:37:55.700
This is why I say you've gotta want it.

585
00:37:55.740 --> 00:37:57.600
What is it that you want?

586
00:37:58.050 --> 00:38:00.320
Not, not what is it you think you should want.

587
00:38:00.320 --> 00:38:02.160
Not what is it you think God wants you to do?

588
00:38:02.170 --> 00:38:03.680
That's fine. That's one answer to that.

589
00:38:04.590 --> 00:38:07.800
But what is it that you want?

590
00:38:08.220 --> 00:38:11.880
What is the barrier between you and that?

591
00:38:12.060 --> 00:38:14.460
That barrier is a psychological barrier.

592
00:38:14.480 --> 00:38:16.830
That's what the Jordan River was.

593
00:38:17.070 --> 00:38:19.500
It was a barrier that represented over there is

594
00:38:19.500 --> 00:38:22.680
the Promised Land and we've never been there before.

595
00:38:22.740 --> 00:38:25.200
All the normal people said, "We've never been there before."

596
00:38:25.620 --> 00:38:26.800
Joshua says this to them

597
00:38:26.800 --> 00:38:29.340
as they're camped right there on the edge.

598
00:38:30.060 --> 00:38:30.920
He says:

599
00:38:45.750 --> 00:38:48.480
Now this is really interesting here:

600
00:38:48.480 --> 00:38:51.000
Take possession, giving you to possess.

601
00:38:52.280 --> 00:38:54.020
This is called the Promised Land.

602
00:38:54.080 --> 00:38:56.060
It's not the promised gift.

603
00:38:57.450 --> 00:38:59.620
I hear people say, "Oh, I hope God gives me this in 2020.

604
00:38:59.880 --> 00:39:01.010
I hope God gives me that in 2020."

605
00:39:01.170 --> 00:39:02.820
I hope he does, too. I hope he does, too.

606
00:39:03.090 --> 00:39:03.660
But guess what?

607
00:39:03.690 --> 00:39:06.840
God's not going to give you 40 pounds of weight loss.

608
00:39:08.450 --> 00:39:10.070
He's not going to give that to you.

609
00:39:10.520 --> 00:39:14.330
God's not going to give you a more intimate marriage.

610
00:39:14.690 --> 00:39:16.430
He's not going to give that to you.

611
00:39:16.640 --> 00:39:20.330
He's not going to give you more knowledge and wisdom.

612
00:39:20.690 --> 00:39:22.010
He's not going to give you that.

613
00:39:22.010 --> 00:39:24.320
When God gives them the Promise Land, what He does is

614
00:39:24.320 --> 00:39:27.890
He gives them the permission to fight for the Promised Land.

615
00:39:28.400 --> 00:39:31.280
He gives them permission to go and get uncomfortable.

616
00:39:31.700 --> 00:39:35.930
So He's giving you the ability if you want it

617
00:39:35.930 --> 00:39:39.620
to lose 40 pounds, but you have to win at it.

618
00:39:40.190 --> 00:39:43.610
He's giving you the ability and the freedom

619
00:39:43.610 --> 00:39:45.650
to have a more intimate marriage, if you're married,

620
00:39:45.680 --> 00:39:48.350
but you're going to have to fight for it.

621
00:39:48.650 --> 00:39:50.270
You're going to have to bite your tongue more often.

622
00:39:50.270 --> 00:39:51.170
You're going to have to do things

623
00:39:51.170 --> 00:39:52.240
the other person wants to do more often.

624
00:39:52.370 --> 00:39:55.280
You're going to have to try things up different sexually in the bedroom.

625
00:39:55.970 --> 00:39:57.050
You're going to have to.

626
00:39:57.140 --> 00:39:59.600
You're not just going to go, "Oh, behold a better marriage,"

627
00:39:59.610 --> 00:40:00.680
it never works that way.

628
00:40:02.710 --> 00:40:04.640
If you want to expand your mind,

629
00:40:04.640 --> 00:40:06.840
you're going to expand your reading time

630
00:40:07.640 --> 00:40:09.050
and you have to want it.

631
00:40:09.050 --> 00:40:11.690
Just going, "Well, I guess I should have a book reading goal this year."

632
00:40:11.690 --> 00:40:14.090
You'll never hit it. Never hit it.

633
00:40:14.600 --> 00:40:15.590
You've got to want it.

634
00:40:16.250 --> 00:40:19.190
You've got to want the knowledge that books might bring to you.

635
00:40:19.520 --> 00:40:21.320
This is big.

636
00:40:21.540 --> 00:40:22.550
This is really big.

637
00:40:23.960 --> 00:40:28.970
In Exodus 3, when we go back to where this whole journey started:

638
00:40:39.620 --> 00:40:40.880
I know their sufferings.

639
00:40:42.700 --> 00:40:46.420
So He hears their suffering while they're in bondage back in Egypt.

640
00:40:46.480 --> 00:40:50.620
Okay? But that doesn't mean that He's going to

641
00:40:50.620 --> 00:40:53.470
just allow them to walk into the Promised Land.

642
00:40:54.340 --> 00:40:56.020
That's a fight that they're going to have to have.

643
00:40:56.680 --> 00:40:58.390
And the question is whether or not they want it.

644
00:40:58.390 --> 00:41:00.670
And the truth is, every last person

645
00:41:00.670 --> 00:41:02.710
except for two people in that entire generation didn't want it.

646
00:41:03.160 --> 00:41:04.800
Joshua and Caleb, they're the only ones who want it.

647
00:41:04.960 --> 00:41:07.780
No one else wanted it, and so none of them got it.

648
00:41:08.730 --> 00:41:10.530
I'm not telling you what you should want.

649
00:41:10.980 --> 00:41:12.780
I'm not telling you what goals you should say.

650
00:41:12.810 --> 00:41:15.330
I'm just saying this:

651
00:41:15.330 --> 00:41:17.250
Don't set a goal for something you don't want.

652
00:41:18.180 --> 00:41:21.420
Be honest with yourself and honest with God.

653
00:41:21.450 --> 00:41:24.630
And then when you do set that goal, you do set that goal,

654
00:41:25.020 --> 00:41:25.920
brace for a fight.

655
00:41:25.950 --> 00:41:29.670
That's the second thing: Brace for a fight.

656
00:41:31.260 --> 00:41:34.320
I hate the first week of January in the sense that

657
00:41:34.320 --> 00:41:36.360
when I go to the gym it's always crowded.

658
00:41:37.890 --> 00:41:40.050
I just posted on my Instagram just what looks like,

659
00:41:40.050 --> 00:41:41.850
you know, like all these machines.

660
00:41:41.880 --> 00:41:43.320
They're just like taken up.

661
00:41:43.890 --> 00:41:45.150
Like there's normally nobody there.

662
00:41:45.180 --> 00:41:47.880
That's what the first week of January looks like at the gym.

663
00:41:48.180 --> 00:41:51.960
This was the second week of January looks like at the gym.

664
00:41:52.710 --> 00:41:54.090
Like there's nobody there.

665
00:41:54.120 --> 00:41:57.210
It's because people thought that I should workout.

666
00:41:57.270 --> 00:41:59.460
I thought I should do it, but they didn't really want it.

667
00:42:00.000 --> 00:42:03.800
And then soreness came and the schedule didn't cooperate

668
00:42:04.330 --> 00:42:05.160
and we just stopped.

669
00:42:06.270 --> 00:42:11.130
Everything, every single thing that's worth fighting for,

670
00:42:11.970 --> 00:42:15.180
every single thing is going to be difficult.

671
00:42:15.540 --> 00:42:18.150
Every single thing you want to win it,

672
00:42:18.150 --> 00:42:19.890
you want to win it because you're not winning right now.

673
00:42:19.890 --> 00:42:21.030
Why aren't you winning it right now?

674
00:42:21.210 --> 00:42:23.040
Because you haven't won the fight right now.

675
00:42:24.090 --> 00:42:27.510
There is a fight that's ahead for whatever the victory is.

676
00:42:27.930 --> 00:42:31.020
If you want increased trust with your kids, there's a fight.

677
00:42:31.230 --> 00:42:33.710
If you want to get married, it's a fight.

678
00:42:34.140 --> 00:42:38.460
If you want to rise in the ranks of your company, it is a fight.

679
00:42:39.090 --> 00:42:43.830
The Nation of Israel is being told by Joshua, "Prepare for this fight."

680
00:42:44.730 --> 00:42:47.670
When I was at the gym most recently,

681
00:42:47.670 --> 00:42:49.410
there was a couple of guys that were talking

682
00:42:49.410 --> 00:42:52.560
and they were talking in a way that I couldn't understand.

683
00:42:52.860 --> 00:42:54.120
They were speaking in Spanish.

684
00:42:54.630 --> 00:42:58.310
It reminded me of all of my failed resolutions around speaking Spanish.

685
00:43:00.150 --> 00:43:02.310
And the reason I failed that resolution

686
00:43:02.310 --> 00:43:03.690
is because I didn't want it bad enough.

687
00:43:04.260 --> 00:43:05.370
I didn't want it.

688
00:43:06.370 --> 00:43:10.180
As I'm having more and more people talk around me

689
00:43:10.180 --> 00:43:13.000
that I can't understand them, I'm starting to want it more.

690
00:43:13.180 --> 00:43:14.760
I'm not ready to make it a new goal yet

691
00:43:14.760 --> 00:43:15.770
but I'm starting to want it more.

692
00:43:15.940 --> 00:43:17.620
I wanted to know what these guys were saying.

693
00:43:17.830 --> 00:43:19.060
I wanted to pitch in the conversation --

694
00:43:19.060 --> 00:43:19.840
Well, I actually did pitch in the conversation.

695
00:43:19.840 --> 00:43:25.060
See? Feliz Navidad?

696
00:43:26.220 --> 00:43:27.820
So I tried to pitch in a little bit,

697
00:43:27.820 --> 00:43:30.910
but see I'm noticing something I want

698
00:43:30.910 --> 00:43:33.850
and I've got to brace for a fight of losing vocabulary

699
00:43:33.870 --> 00:43:35.920
if I'm actually going to declare it.

700
00:43:35.920 --> 00:43:38.470
Joshua 1:14-15:

701
00:43:45.040 --> 00:43:46.960
No one's ever been armed before.

702
00:43:47.170 --> 00:43:49.930
No one's ever fought hand-to-hand combat before.

703
00:43:50.080 --> 00:43:54.430
This is brand new skills and brand new territory.

704
00:43:54.850 --> 00:43:57.870
until the law gives rest to you and your brothers as he has you.

705
00:43:58.120 --> 00:44:00.070
And they also take possession of the land.

706
00:44:00.080 --> 00:44:03.100
Take -- take possession of the land --

707
00:44:03.100 --> 00:44:04.540
that the Lord your God is giving them.

708
00:44:04.580 --> 00:44:07.060
There's none of this, "Well, I'm just going to let go and let God."

709
00:44:07.060 --> 00:44:07.990
It doesn't work that way.

710
00:44:08.990 --> 00:44:11.140
The Bible never says let go and let God.

711
00:44:12.470 --> 00:44:13.700
The Bible says take possession of it,

712
00:44:13.700 --> 00:44:16.350
if it's something God is okay with you having.

713
00:44:28.210 --> 00:44:29.870
Joshua said, "Hey, you've got to take it.

714
00:44:29.990 --> 00:44:32.540
If you want, you've got to take it and we've got to do it as a team.

715
00:44:32.990 --> 00:44:35.810
So if you get your piece of land, this tribe over there,

716
00:44:35.810 --> 00:44:37.610
well, let's come back and let's fight the other people here.

717
00:44:37.910 --> 00:44:41.150
Let's do this as one, but let's brace ourselves for a fight."

718
00:44:43.450 --> 00:44:45.220
I'm not just talking, by the way,

719
00:44:45.220 --> 00:44:48.940
about just things like weight loss or something else.

720
00:44:48.970 --> 00:44:52.060
I'm talking about also things like your walk with God.

721
00:44:52.430 --> 00:44:55.570
Did you ever consider that there is a fight in your walk with God?

722
00:44:55.600 --> 00:44:58.570
There's a fight to feeling and sensing God.

723
00:44:58.600 --> 00:45:03.280
There's a fight involved in trying to stay sharp with God.

724
00:45:03.820 --> 00:45:06.550
Book of Philippians 2:12 says:

725
00:45:11.080 --> 00:45:14.590
It could also say: Fight for your salvation.

726
00:45:15.220 --> 00:45:16.690
Work it out with fear and trembling.

727
00:45:17.970 --> 00:45:19.270
What does this mean?

728
00:45:19.710 --> 00:45:22.800
Well, there's three distinct periods of being saved,

729
00:45:22.800 --> 00:45:26.100
that is being delivered from something that we can't handle,

730
00:45:26.610 --> 00:45:29.550
delivered from our own flesh, from our own desires,

731
00:45:29.550 --> 00:45:30.990
from our own sinfulness,

732
00:45:30.990 --> 00:45:33.240
being delivered from that into relation with God.

733
00:45:33.780 --> 00:45:37.530
I was saved, I am saved, and I will be saved.

734
00:45:38.370 --> 00:45:41.190
I was saved, age 15, 16 when I knelt down

735
00:45:41.190 --> 00:45:43.470
and I asked Jesus into my life at a camp.

736
00:45:44.220 --> 00:45:45.750
I am saved right now.

737
00:45:45.750 --> 00:45:47.040
That's my identity.

738
00:45:47.280 --> 00:45:49.110
And I will be saved in the future

739
00:45:49.110 --> 00:45:50.550
because there's things I'm wrestling with right now

740
00:45:50.550 --> 00:45:51.420
I'm not delivered from.

741
00:45:51.680 --> 00:45:53.340
There's hang ups I have, there's whatever.

742
00:45:53.610 --> 00:45:55.470
It's a fight. It's a fight.

743
00:45:56.480 --> 00:45:59.540
If I want to get closer to God this year, it's going to be a fight.

744
00:46:00.260 --> 00:46:01.340
I'm going to have to work it out.

745
00:46:01.370 --> 00:46:03.860
I'm not just going to sit back and wait for God

746
00:46:03.860 --> 00:46:06.110
to dip His sweet sugar finger in my life.

747
00:46:06.140 --> 00:46:08.360
I've got to work it out.

748
00:46:08.630 --> 00:46:11.540
And to do that, to work it out, to fight,

749
00:46:11.540 --> 00:46:13.460
I've got to use unconventional weapons.

750
00:46:14.530 --> 00:46:16.000
We have to use unconventional weapons.

751
00:46:16.450 --> 00:46:18.460
Unconventional weapons of warfare

752
00:46:18.460 --> 00:46:20.650
are the weapons you normally don't use,

753
00:46:20.650 --> 00:46:21.760
that's why they're unconventional.

754
00:46:22.090 --> 00:46:24.640
Whatever you do, all of us have weapons that we use right now,

755
00:46:24.910 --> 00:46:26.740
those are conventional weapons of warfare.

756
00:46:26.780 --> 00:46:29.630
Those are the ways that you're accomplishing your to do list now.

757
00:46:29.950 --> 00:46:35.560
Those are the ways that you are having a life that matters right now.

758
00:46:35.590 --> 00:46:38.860
Those are the ways you have ends meet at the end of the month

759
00:46:38.860 --> 00:46:40.450
or whatever you have right now.

760
00:46:40.520 --> 00:46:43.000
I'm assuming we're all doing halfway decent.

761
00:46:43.030 --> 00:46:45.040
There's some some things are happening here with us.

762
00:46:45.310 --> 00:46:47.500
You're getting that and good for you, good for all of us.

763
00:46:47.530 --> 00:46:48.100
Good for all of us.

764
00:46:48.180 --> 00:46:51.010
The conventional weapons that we're used to,

765
00:46:51.010 --> 00:46:53.500
but the unconventional weapons are the weapons

766
00:46:53.500 --> 00:46:55.450
that we haven't picked up yet, the ones that we haven't used,

767
00:46:55.450 --> 00:46:57.970
the ones that we're a little little uncomfortable using.

768
00:46:58.210 --> 00:47:01.520
That's why we're not winning, because we don't have our whole arsenal.

769
00:47:02.200 --> 00:47:04.560
There's listening skills, weapons we've got to develop.

770
00:47:04.570 --> 00:47:06.110
If you want to increase your relationships,

771
00:47:06.110 --> 00:47:08.980
you've got to develop the weapon of empathetic listening,

772
00:47:09.550 --> 00:47:11.290
not persuasive speaking.

773
00:47:12.110 --> 00:47:12.370
Right?

774
00:47:13.340 --> 00:47:16.180
In The Book of Joshua 3:5:

775
00:47:21.910 --> 00:47:25.210
Consecrate yourselves, tomorrow the Lord will do wonders before you.

776
00:47:25.630 --> 00:47:30.460
Consecrate yourself is a way that you set yourself aside

777
00:47:30.460 --> 00:47:32.680
for different means, that's what consecrate means.

778
00:47:32.950 --> 00:47:38.200
You set yourself apart from where you are right now.

779
00:47:38.200 --> 00:47:40.180
Set it aside, and actually use using old school language,

780
00:47:40.180 --> 00:47:42.460
you set yourself unto the Lord.

781
00:47:43.000 --> 00:47:47.980
You set yourself up to be used by Him to be a tool in His hands,

782
00:47:48.030 --> 00:47:52.120
but you make a decision I'm not going to stay here

783
00:47:52.120 --> 00:47:53.170
where I've been here.

784
00:47:53.590 --> 00:47:55.330
No, I'm going to lift myself.

785
00:47:55.330 --> 00:47:56.570
I'm going to elevate myself.

786
00:47:56.770 --> 00:48:01.060
I'm going to step out and consecrate myself unto the Lord.

787
00:48:01.600 --> 00:48:05.080
It's not our stick-to-it-iveness that is a weapon

788
00:48:05.080 --> 00:48:05.920
that we need to formulate.

789
00:48:05.980 --> 00:48:06.850
That's fine, that's a good weapon.

790
00:48:06.860 --> 00:48:08.020
We'll talk about that next week.

791
00:48:08.980 --> 00:48:11.500
The ultimate one when you set yourself aside

792
00:48:11.500 --> 00:48:13.840
for God to do in you what you can do on your own,

793
00:48:13.840 --> 00:48:15.370
but you make an intentional choice,

794
00:48:15.700 --> 00:48:17.680
say I'm going to set myself apart unto him.

795
00:48:18.610 --> 00:48:20.710
God doesn't just deliver you from addiction.

796
00:48:20.710 --> 00:48:24.700
He delivers you because you set yourself unto Him

797
00:48:24.700 --> 00:48:27.880
as the higher power and you go to war with

798
00:48:27.880 --> 00:48:30.700
the things they're trying to kill your life.

799
00:48:31.270 --> 00:48:32.470
You go to war with them.

800
00:48:35.210 --> 00:48:39.760
This is the way it is for all of us in every single area of our life,

801
00:48:39.760 --> 00:48:43.150
the main weapon is ourselves and different habits,

802
00:48:43.150 --> 00:48:46.540
different attitudes that we want to do, that we want to use.

803
00:48:48.460 --> 00:48:50.260
The third thing -- the fourth things, excuse me,

804
00:48:50.260 --> 00:48:54.310
the last thing is that we need to get a guide.

805
00:48:55.300 --> 00:48:56.170
We need to get a guide.

806
00:48:56.410 --> 00:48:58.900
So when we have vision, go back where we were.

807
00:48:58.900 --> 00:49:02.530
Vision: It talks about I'm looking for,

808
00:49:02.530 --> 00:49:04.690
I'm understanding what is it I want?

809
00:49:04.750 --> 00:49:06.100
What do I want?

810
00:49:07.190 --> 00:49:09.470
I'm bracing for a fight.

811
00:49:09.980 --> 00:49:10.870
That's what vision is.

812
00:49:10.880 --> 00:49:12.380
You're going to fight for that thing,

813
00:49:12.380 --> 00:49:13.850
not to have a daydream about a thing.

814
00:49:13.850 --> 00:49:17.090
I'm fighting that thing and I'm going to try new things.

815
00:49:17.870 --> 00:49:20.120
And all this is such an unusual territory.

816
00:49:20.180 --> 00:49:24.800
All of this is so, oh, what's the word I'm looking for?

817
00:49:24.830 --> 00:49:28.350
It's so discombobulated, foreign.

818
00:49:28.850 --> 00:49:31.430
It's just awkward that we need somebody

819
00:49:31.430 --> 00:49:33.800
who's been where we are to help us go there.

820
00:49:33.800 --> 00:49:35.020
We need somebody walking with us.

821
00:49:35.020 --> 00:49:36.290
The Nation of Israel has always had a guide.

822
00:49:36.950 --> 00:49:41.630
God, obviously, Moses, Joshua, Caleb, they've had guides.

823
00:49:41.630 --> 00:49:44.990
And you're going to have to have actual people

824
00:49:44.990 --> 00:49:48.080
that are with you that are helping you and guiding you.

825
00:49:50.150 --> 00:49:54.050
A couple months ago, I ordered this new bumper and a winch

826
00:49:54.050 --> 00:49:56.750
for the front of my truck, because when Lib and I go out camping,

827
00:49:56.750 --> 00:50:00.510
we get in some places where there is no tow truck going to get out to us.

828
00:50:00.510 --> 00:50:01.820
So you have to be able to little self recovery.

829
00:50:02.240 --> 00:50:04.850
So this is really, really heavy, heavy and weighty.

830
00:50:05.240 --> 00:50:06.500
They couldn't deliver it.

831
00:50:06.500 --> 00:50:08.000
The mailman or U.P.S.

832
00:50:08.000 --> 00:50:08.540
guy can't do it.

833
00:50:08.550 --> 00:50:10.790
So I've got to go down to this trucking facility

834
00:50:10.790 --> 00:50:11.710
and pick this up with my truck.

835
00:50:11.750 --> 00:50:13.300
So I go there. It's kind of crazy.

836
00:50:13.330 --> 00:50:15.830
I've been one of these things, all these boxes everywhere.

837
00:50:15.990 --> 00:50:20.000
And it's like an army of forklifts, (sound effects)

838
00:50:20.000 --> 00:50:21.300
buzzing all over the place.

839
00:50:22.100 --> 00:50:23.480
I just sat there like mesmerized.

840
00:50:23.480 --> 00:50:23.630
Right?

841
00:50:23.670 --> 00:50:24.710
This is amazing.

842
00:50:25.580 --> 00:50:28.350
Went into the office, told them what my order was.

843
00:50:28.380 --> 00:50:30.470
Say, "We'll get a guy who will get it for you."

844
00:50:30.470 --> 00:50:31.250
So, I'm sitting there.

845
00:50:31.250 --> 00:50:33.500
And sure enough, eventually, 10 minutes later

846
00:50:33.510 --> 00:50:35.650
this forklift guy comes down and he goes, "Is this for you?"

847
00:50:35.660 --> 00:50:36.170
I said, "Yeah, it's for me."

848
00:50:36.170 --> 00:50:37.850
He said, "I'll meet you down at the bottom of the ramp."

849
00:50:37.850 --> 00:50:39.600
Good, I go down there, pull my truck around.

850
00:50:39.980 --> 00:50:42.920
He said, "I need you to sign this paper,"

851
00:50:42.920 --> 00:50:44.070
and we're trying to find pens.

852
00:50:44.080 --> 00:50:45.700
So, I have some time like to interact with him

853
00:50:45.700 --> 00:50:47.300
while we're trying to figure out this stuff.

854
00:50:47.570 --> 00:50:50.890
OK, we get it all handled, open up the gate of my truck.

855
00:50:51.240 --> 00:50:54.110
He goes up and he puts it in, loads this heavy thing

856
00:50:54.110 --> 00:50:56.420
in with a forklift, backs back out, I close the gate.

857
00:50:57.230 --> 00:50:59.900
I give him back his papers and his and his pen.

858
00:51:00.230 --> 00:51:03.190
And I go to I go to walk back up to the --

859
00:51:03.190 --> 00:51:04.280
walk back up to get in the door.

860
00:51:04.280 --> 00:51:11.590
And as soon as I like put my hand on the door handle,

861
00:51:11.590 --> 00:51:13.160
I'm like God talks to me, I'm like, Mmm.

862
00:51:14.840 --> 00:51:15.620
You know what that's like.

863
00:51:16.310 --> 00:51:18.680
When God talks to me, and especially this environment,

864
00:51:18.950 --> 00:51:21.080
there's this thought that comes out of nowhere

865
00:51:21.380 --> 00:51:23.420
that I wasn't planning on having this thought,

866
00:51:23.420 --> 00:51:24.980
it was nowhere near my mind.

867
00:51:25.010 --> 00:51:27.650
It comes and it's like that's the kind of thing

868
00:51:27.650 --> 00:51:29.720
that Jesus would like to say.

869
00:51:30.410 --> 00:51:31.830
That's the kind of thing He would approve of.

870
00:51:31.940 --> 00:51:33.820
And so I got to think, OK.

871
00:51:34.000 --> 00:51:34.440
Is that..?

872
00:51:35.450 --> 00:51:37.220
Is there any reason I wouldn't do that?

873
00:51:37.250 --> 00:51:38.810
No, there's no reason I wouldn't do that.

874
00:51:38.840 --> 00:51:40.130
Let's make an aggressive move.

875
00:51:40.160 --> 00:51:40.730
So I go, hmmm.

876
00:51:42.650 --> 00:51:45.000
I walk back, I go back to this guy, and I said,

877
00:51:45.000 --> 00:51:46.540
"Hey, man.

878
00:51:46.540 --> 00:51:48.910
Maybe do some of this.

879
00:51:48.910 --> 00:51:50.340
You've got to put airbags around it.

880
00:51:50.370 --> 00:51:54.870
You've got to make your self seem as weird -- as unweird as possible.

881
00:51:55.690 --> 00:51:57.510
Maybe that was wrong.

882
00:51:57.540 --> 00:52:00.030
Maybe I had pizza that was bad and stale yesterday

883
00:52:00.030 --> 00:52:01.290
and now it's causing something.

884
00:52:01.290 --> 00:52:02.520
So I come back, I go, "Hey, man.

885
00:52:05.340 --> 00:52:08.730
I think God wants me to tell you, I think He wants you know,

886
00:52:09.150 --> 00:52:11.070
He hasn't forgotten about you.

887
00:52:14.230 --> 00:52:17.800
This guy's eyes immediately go red, immediately like that.

888
00:52:18.330 --> 00:52:19.230
He starts crying.

889
00:52:21.430 --> 00:52:24.460
He says, he goes, "Are you a Christian?"

890
00:52:25.640 --> 00:52:27.450
And I said, "Yeah, I am."

891
00:52:29.090 --> 00:52:33.080
He said, "I got baptized in 2006 and, man,

892
00:52:33.890 --> 00:52:35.690
life has not been good."

893
00:52:36.920 --> 00:52:40.690
I said, "Well, He just told you right now,

894
00:52:40.840 --> 00:52:43.040
he's not forgotten about you."

895
00:52:43.330 --> 00:52:44.740
He goes, "Thanks, man." "No problem."

896
00:52:44.790 --> 00:52:46.480
So I'm patting him on the shoulder, I'm trying to patch him up.

897
00:52:47.860 --> 00:52:49.960
I go back and get my truck and away we go.

898
00:52:49.960 --> 00:52:54.070
And I don't know if that guy has anybody in his life.

899
00:52:54.700 --> 00:52:56.170
I don't know where he goes,

900
00:52:56.320 --> 00:52:59.770
if he goes anyplace for any sense of help or inspiration.

901
00:52:59.800 --> 00:53:01.990
I just want to tell you right now,

902
00:53:01.990 --> 00:53:04.840
I would love to be a personal guide for everybody, every.

903
00:53:05.640 --> 00:53:07.780
I know this: I can't be a personal guide for everybody,

904
00:53:07.810 --> 00:53:10.000
but I and anybody who's ever on the stage

905
00:53:10.000 --> 00:53:11.730
will be a guide for you, will be a guide.

906
00:53:11.980 --> 00:53:15.700
We have one of the greatest years planned at Crossroads that I can remember.

907
00:53:15.720 --> 00:53:17.320
It's going to be an amazing year.

908
00:53:17.620 --> 00:53:19.540
We're going to look at emotions.

909
00:53:19.810 --> 00:53:23.350
How do you actually control your emotions

910
00:53:23.680 --> 00:53:25.590
and not have your emotions control you?

911
00:53:25.600 --> 00:53:27.670
It's going to be an amazing year that way.

912
00:53:27.670 --> 00:53:29.980
We're going to look at stuff like

913
00:53:29.980 --> 00:53:31.640
what does it actually mean to be a Christian?

914
00:53:31.660 --> 00:53:34.240
Because there's most of us in here really have no clue.

915
00:53:34.870 --> 00:53:36.130
Most of us don't have any clue.

916
00:53:36.370 --> 00:53:37.210
We're going to look at that.

917
00:53:37.210 --> 00:53:41.110
What are the key spiritual power principles

918
00:53:41.110 --> 00:53:45.100
that set somebody aside, who sets themselves on to Jesus?

919
00:53:45.260 --> 00:53:47.140
What does that look like in our life?

920
00:53:47.140 --> 00:53:49.890
We're gonna look at the difference between Father and King.

921
00:53:50.430 --> 00:53:52.300
God's a father and He's a king.

922
00:53:52.960 --> 00:53:54.020
Most of us have an outage in one of those areas.

923
00:53:54.460 --> 00:53:55.240
We're going to look at that stuff.

924
00:53:55.390 --> 00:53:57.330
We're going to deal with the election.

925
00:53:57.370 --> 00:54:00.430
Yes, this is going to be the most divisive election in our time.

926
00:54:01.270 --> 00:54:03.320
I don't know, this could be the most important election of our lives.

927
00:54:03.360 --> 00:54:05.030
Everyone always says it's the most important election of our lives.

928
00:54:05.040 --> 00:54:06.930
I have no idea if it's going to be the most important or not,

929
00:54:06.940 --> 00:54:10.320
but I do know it's the most divisive and most of us need help.

930
00:54:10.330 --> 00:54:11.470
We need guided.

931
00:54:11.500 --> 00:54:13.750
And I want to encourage you, I want to plead with you,

932
00:54:14.050 --> 00:54:17.860
where will you go this year to get any sense of guidance

933
00:54:18.920 --> 00:54:20.500
that is spiritually rooted?

934
00:54:20.780 --> 00:54:23.570
If you're around a group of people every week

935
00:54:23.570 --> 00:54:26.420
at a Crossroads site or with a ground of Crossroads folks

936
00:54:26.600 --> 00:54:28.550
trying to dig in, where will that --

937
00:54:28.610 --> 00:54:30.290
Who will fight with you?

938
00:54:30.440 --> 00:54:31.580
Who will fight for you?

939
00:54:31.730 --> 00:54:33.320
Who will guide you?

940
00:54:33.740 --> 00:54:36.830
Tell your friends, "If you don't change something this year,

941
00:54:36.830 --> 00:54:40.190
you will not have a different 2020 than you did in 2019.

942
00:54:40.640 --> 00:54:42.480
I want you to win.

943
00:54:43.190 --> 00:54:43.880
I want you to win.

944
00:54:43.910 --> 00:54:45.950
God wants you to win."

945
00:54:46.250 --> 00:54:48.620
The Book of Proverbs 20, it says:

946
00:54:53.210 --> 00:54:56.080
That means you and I, we need to prepare our lives.

947
00:54:56.180 --> 00:54:58.140
We need to fight to win in our lives.

948
00:54:58.170 --> 00:55:03.030
We need to ready our lives for battle, but at the end of the day,

949
00:55:04.100 --> 00:55:06.010
God is going to do something only He can do

950
00:55:06.020 --> 00:55:09.500
because there's certain X factors that He controls that we don't control.

951
00:55:09.680 --> 00:55:13.400
But one thing is for sure, if you do not ready your horse for battle,

952
00:55:13.430 --> 00:55:14.690
there will not be victory.

953
00:55:15.670 --> 00:55:18.520
Both of those go hand in hand: ready the horse for battle

954
00:55:18.850 --> 00:55:22.780
and there is victory that belongs in the hands of God,

955
00:55:22.810 --> 00:55:27.110
and He wants His people, He wants you to win this.

956
00:55:27.110 --> 00:55:28.330
Do you it?

957
00:55:28.510 --> 00:55:30.580
Do you want it? Do you want it?

958
00:55:30.580 --> 00:55:32.160
You have one life, one life?

959
00:55:32.160 --> 00:55:34.030
You have one shot at 2020.

960
00:55:35.350 --> 00:55:36.460
Consecrate yourself, friends. Consecrate.

961
00:55:37.160 --> 00:55:38.030
Set yourself aside.

962
00:55:38.290 --> 00:55:41.230
Set yourself side to have a life that's above the fray.

963
00:55:41.490 --> 00:55:44.890
Set yourself aside to not be normal, to not be average,

964
00:55:44.890 --> 00:55:47.170
to not settle for same old, same old.

965
00:55:48.790 --> 00:55:51.250
Win this year, win, do this.

966
00:55:52.630 --> 00:55:57.910
God, I thank you for giving us permission to live our lives,

967
00:55:57.910 --> 00:56:01.660
to go after things, and for being a God who fights for us

968
00:56:02.080 --> 00:56:02.980
and gives victory.

969
00:56:03.680 --> 00:56:06.430
I give you this year, we all give you this year.

970
00:56:06.700 --> 00:56:10.120
We pray uniquely that this series sets us up

971
00:56:10.120 --> 00:56:11.890
for this decade of our life

972
00:56:11.890 --> 00:56:16.330
and we pray these things according to the name of Jesus.

973
00:56:16.770 --> 00:56:17.080
Amen.

974
00:56:17.800 --> 00:56:19.510
- So where do you want to win this year?

975
00:56:20.110 --> 00:56:22.840
I believe God wants to show up in that spot.

976
00:56:23.320 --> 00:56:24.790
You can head to Crossroads.net

977
00:56:24.880 --> 00:56:25.840
and chat with us

978
00:56:25.870 --> 00:56:27.160
if you want prayer this week

979
00:56:27.190 --> 00:56:30.580
or you've got questions that you'd like some help answering.

980
00:56:30.850 --> 00:56:33.670
And don't forget to download the Crossroads Anywhere App

981
00:56:33.730 --> 00:56:36.250
and connect with me personally on the app

982
00:56:36.250 --> 00:56:38.440
and so many others who are part of our church

983
00:56:38.440 --> 00:56:41.440
in the midst of prayer and scripture and great content this week.

984
00:56:41.710 --> 00:56:44.470
We'll see you next week for week 2 of Win This Year.
Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Weekend Follow Up.

  1. Happy 2020! Let’s dive in. 1 Corinthians 9:24 tells us all to run our race to obtain our prize. Basically, run to win! Why would God want us to win?

  2. Read Joshua 1:6 out loud. God is giving Joshua instructions for how to win in this verse. How do those instructions apply to our lives today?

  3. To win this year we will need to fight with weapons that are unconventional. What unconventional weapon (i.e. empathic listening skills, a new habit, or even a new attitude) do you think you’ll need to intentionally elevate and win this year?

  4. In order to win, we need a guide. Everyone talk about a time when you were a guide for someone else and helped them win. Now, tell us about a time when you needed a guide to help you win.

  5. Let’s ask God for victory this year. Each person share exactly what they want God to do for them in 2020 and then the group will nominate someone to pray for that specifically.
