Discussion questions to help you unpack the message with others.
  1. Take out your phone and look at your photo album. What’s one picture that brings gratitude?

  2. What stood out to you most from the message?

  3. What are the red flags of control in your life?

  4. Why is it hard to give God control? What worries or fears from your old operating system keep you from trusting Him?

  5. Read Matthew 11:25-26. What would it look like for you to become like a little child as you go to Jesus with what he offers?

  6. What are your reactions to the following statements?

    a) Control says, “What can I do to make sure this works?” Trust says, “What is mine to do here?”

    b) Control says, “I try to anticipate every possible problem.” Trust says, “I can wait to respond to problems that actually arise.”

    c) Control says, “Peace means all what-if scenarios were prevented.” Trust says, “Peace means even if this goes wrong, God is good and is for me.”

  7. Read Ezekiel 36:26. What’s one step you can take this week to trust Jesus and receive a new heart?

New around here? We'd love to connect

You have a default system setting that’s draining your battery: control. And when it’s time for an upgrade, most of us just keep hitting “Remind Me Later.” Control feels safe because it’s familiar. We plan, predict, manage, and try to guarantee the outcome. But eventually, control makes our lives smaller—and our relationships harder.

This week, Alli Patterson shows us why we’ve mistaken a controllable life for a faithful one, and what happens when we finally uninstall control and learn to trust God instead. Recorded live at Crossroads Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.
