Pray Wild Prayers | Immersive Prayer Weekend

What if the bold prayers you’ve been thinking about are the very ones God is waiting to hear?  This weekend, we’re not just talking about prayer — we’re doing it. You’ll be guided through a real, raw, and powerful prayer experience. One that helps you bring your biggest hopes, fears, and faith straight to God.

Grab a pen. Find a quiet spot. And let’s lean in.

Recorded live at Crossroads Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.

  • 00:00:12
    - Well good morning, everybody. My name is Brian Tome.
  • 00:00:15
I'm what's called a senior pastor around here,
  • 00:00:16
    if we haven't met before.
  • 00:00:18
Everyone staying warm today? I hope so.
  • 00:00:21
Hey, if you're a part of our church
  • 00:00:23
and you've ever been on the app and we have your email,
  • 00:00:26
you got an email from us this last week
  • 00:00:28
on a very, very weighty matter regarding
  • 00:00:31
    a firing that we undertook.
  • 00:00:33
And if you didn't get that email and you're like,
  • 00:00:35
"Hey, I thought it was part of a church?"
  • 00:00:37
We'd love you to be able to get any sort of email we have.
  • 00:00:39
Just register on the app and we'll be able
  • 00:00:41
to send you that and other emails that we do.
  • 00:00:43
But I just want to say this,
  • 00:00:45
we're not talking about that today.
  • 00:00:48
We're going to maybe pray about that.
  • 00:00:50
But all that needs to be said about that weighty matter
  • 00:00:53
I put in that email, and that is the details
  • 00:00:56
    and the really deal.
  • 00:00:57
This week, if you're curious, like,
  • 00:00:59
why would a church do that?
  • 00:01:00
Why would they call somebody out like that?
  • 00:01:01
What does church discipline look like?
  • 00:01:03
I'm going to write an article, I'm going to put it
  • 00:01:05
in the in the app this week if you want to understand
  • 00:01:08
a little bit more about behind
  • 00:01:09
our thinking on things like that.
  • 00:01:11
So no statement today. Already made it.
  • 00:01:14
    That's all we're doing. Let's move on.
  • 00:01:16
And Joel is -- we can move on.
  • 00:01:19
I'm not going to move on. Joel's a friend of mine,
  • 00:01:21
by the way, there's a higher standard we hold,
  • 00:01:23
    even with friends of mine.
  • 00:01:24
We have to hold that standard.
  • 00:01:26
    But this doesn't define us.
  • 00:01:28
So let me pray and then we're going to get going
  • 00:01:31
on something pretty fun today. Everyone good with that?
  • 00:01:34
All right. God, thank You for being a God of truth
  • 00:01:40
    and a God of grace.
  • 00:01:41
And we want to encounter You today and know You today
  • 00:01:45
in a powerful and profound way.
  • 00:01:47
God, we pray that Your Spirit, Your Spirit
  • 00:01:52
will come and inhabit our rooms today
  • 00:01:55
and that we would get to a new place
  • 00:01:59
in our communication with You. Amen.
  • 00:02:10
    - Let's stand together.
  • 00:02:11
If you're online, join with us.
  • 00:02:12
Here's what we're going to do, we're going to focus
  • 00:02:15
our full attention on who God is and say this to Him.
  • 00:07:07
    - It's our hope that today is a special day for you,
  • 00:07:10
one where you get to encounter God in a powerful way.
  • 00:07:13
    Not just go to church,
  • 00:07:14
not just watch a church service online,
  • 00:07:16
but you experience God specifically through prayer,
  • 00:07:19
in a new way, in a fresh way.
  • 00:07:21
So to that end, we are actually kind of
  • 00:07:23
flipping the script and changing things up
  • 00:07:25
    a little bit this morning.
  • 00:07:26
But I want to give you a sense of some of the things
  • 00:07:28
that are going on in our community.
  • 00:07:30
Now we're wrapping up our series called Pray Wild Prayers
  • 00:07:33
today, which has been so good.
  • 00:07:35
But actually next week something really special happens as well.
  • 00:07:39
It's called the Super Bowl of Preaching. Come on.
  • 00:07:41
And if you are like maybe not around Crossroads
  • 00:07:44
and those words Super Bowl of Preaching
  • 00:07:46
in that order sound insane. Hey, I get it.
  • 00:07:48
The Super Bowl of Preaching is actually something
  • 00:07:50
we started, man, over a decade ago to recognize
  • 00:07:54
what was the least attended weekend of the entire year
  • 00:07:57
and actually kind of change it up.
  • 00:07:59
It's become one of our most attended,
  • 00:08:01
one of our most attended for specifically people
  • 00:08:03
who, you know, maybe don't love the typical church thing
  • 00:08:06
or aren't going to easily say yes to an invite to church,
  • 00:08:09
this is -- it's fun and it's meaningful.
  • 00:08:12
It's like I literally the first time I went,
  • 00:08:14
I had a friend invite me, and like,
  • 00:08:16
"You want me to come to what now?"
  • 00:08:17
I laughed hysterically and I cried in the same service.
  • 00:08:21
Like I felt like I saw God, I saw church, I saw faith,
  • 00:08:24
and I even saw myself a little bit differently as a result.
  • 00:08:27
We'd love for you to come.
  • 00:08:28
We'd love for you to come to one of our sites
  • 00:08:30
    if you're within driving distance.
  • 00:08:31
If you're not, we've got an incredible experience.
  • 00:08:33
It'll even be live and interactive happening
  • 00:08:36
    at Crossroads.net/SuperBowl.
  • 00:08:39
It's going to be amazing. Don't miss it.
  • 00:08:41
And if you live within range of one of our sites,
  • 00:08:43
we'd actually love your help making the party happen.
  • 00:08:46
If you're one of the people who hears like,
  • 00:08:47
"Hey, my church needs help and I'm going to jump in,"
  • 00:08:50
we need you, we have hundreds of volunteer spots,
  • 00:08:53
    particularly with Kids Club,
  • 00:08:54
that we'd love your help filling.
  • 00:08:56
    Help make the party happen.
  • 00:08:58
Now, if you're not near one of our physical sites,
  • 00:09:00
we'd also love your help making the party happen
  • 00:09:02
    by hosting a watch party.
  • 00:09:03
We're actually going to have a Q&A on how to do that
  • 00:09:06
and what that looks like immediately after service
  • 00:09:08
with myself and some of my team.
  • 00:09:09
You can join us for that.
  • 00:09:11
Now, whether it's Super Bowl of Preaching,
  • 00:09:14
whether it's the weekend that you're watching right now,
  • 00:09:16
all the things that we do are meant to help people
  • 00:09:19
grow with God and take their next step with Him.
  • 00:09:21
But it all happens because people are generous
  • 00:09:23
and faithful and trust God with their finances
  • 00:09:25
    and with their resources.
  • 00:09:27
Now, you might be new around here.
  • 00:09:28
We want you to know, like, hey, we're not looking
  • 00:09:30
to get anything from you. We want something great for you.
  • 00:09:34
We want you to experience more of God,
  • 00:09:35
more of His presence, more of His joy, more of His fun,
  • 00:09:38
more of His purpose in your life.
  • 00:09:40
If you've got questions about what Crossroads
  • 00:09:42
believes about money you can do so at crossroads.net/give.
  • 00:09:46
Or if you're like, ready to take that step
  • 00:09:48
towards trusting God with your finances,
  • 00:09:49
you can do that as well, just head to Crossroads.net/give.
  • 00:09:54
Now, I'm excited about this weekend,
  • 00:09:57
about the prayer experience that's happening.
  • 00:09:58
    I'm excited about next weekend
  • 00:10:00
with the Super Bowl of Preaching,
  • 00:10:02
but man, right after that is something
  • 00:10:04
incredibly special called the Run Journey.
  • 00:10:07
It's where everything we do, our teaching is 11 out of 10.
  • 00:10:10
We've got small group component where you get
  • 00:10:12
to process what God's showing you alongside other people
  • 00:10:15
in a really fun, creative way.
  • 00:10:17
And there's actually this individual guide.
  • 00:10:19
It's like a custom growth plan that you'll go through.
  • 00:10:22
If you live near one of our physical sites,
  • 00:10:24
you'll be picking this up there in just a couple of weeks.
  • 00:10:27
But if you don't, if you are part of
  • 00:10:28
our Anywhere Community across the globe
  • 00:10:30
or across the world or across the nation,
  • 00:10:32
we need to get these in the mail to you totally free of charge.
  • 00:10:35
And we want to do that now.
  • 00:10:36
Make sure you have it ready to start on time,
  • 00:10:39
    so go to crossroads.net/journey.
  • 00:10:42
You can scroll all the way to the bottom.
  • 00:10:45
There's a little form that you fill out
  • 00:10:47
that'll just give us your information
  • 00:10:48
so that we can get this in the mail so you're ready to start.
  • 00:10:51
And there's also this small group component,
  • 00:10:53
this group component where we just know
  • 00:10:54
we don't grow best on our own.
  • 00:10:57
You know, we grow best in the context of community.
  • 00:11:00
We'd love for you to join us for that.
  • 00:11:03
And I'll actually be leading a small group on Monday nights.
  • 00:11:05
We've got all kinds of groups led by
  • 00:11:07
    all different kinds of people
  • 00:11:08
for all different life stages, demographics.
  • 00:11:10
You can get all those at Crossroads.net/journey as well.
  • 00:11:13
But let's say who is the Journey for?
  • 00:11:15
    The Journey is for you.
  • 00:11:17
If you want to understand more of the specific race
  • 00:11:20
and purpose that God has created you to run,
  • 00:11:23
if you've ever felt like just wondering
  • 00:11:25
how do you fit in or what is the unique purpose
  • 00:11:27
God has for you, I really, really firmly believe
  • 00:11:30
this Run Journey will help you towards that end.
  • 00:11:33
And I know it's called the Run Journey,
  • 00:11:35
but this isn't like a fitness thing.
  • 00:11:36
This is a chance for you to experience more
  • 00:11:39
of what God has made you to experience
  • 00:11:41
and what He wants for you.
  • 00:11:43
Now, all the things we do around here are meant
  • 00:11:46
to help you grow, meant to help you experience
  • 00:11:50
more of God and His love, His purpose,
  • 00:11:52
and His plan for your life.
  • 00:11:53
So thank you so much for joining us.
  • 00:11:55
We're going to continue in our series
  • 00:11:57
    called Pray Wild Prayers,
  • 00:11:59
not just by talking about prayer,
  • 00:12:01
not just by learning about what prayer means,
  • 00:12:03
    but about by experiencing ourselves.
  • 00:12:05
    Let's jump in right now.
  • 00:12:06
    - Filmed on location in two new countries,
  • 00:12:09
five weeks of live teaching as the Bible
  • 00:12:12
is brought to life each week,
  • 00:12:14
and one incredible opportunity to level up your life.
  • 00:12:18
Join us as we follow the missionary journeys
  • 00:12:20
of the Apostle Paul and learn from
  • 00:12:22
the radical race he ran to change the world.
  • 00:12:25
Wipe the sleep from your soul.
  • 00:12:27
You have a race to run and you can win.
  • 00:12:30
Get off the sidelines of your life,
  • 00:12:32
learn to turn suffering into endurance,
  • 00:12:34
endurance into character, and character into hope.
  • 00:12:39
It is time. Wake up! Run your race! Win!
  • 00:12:43
Real Encounters with God; Run Journey.
  • 00:12:51
    - Yeah. That's going to be great in a couple weeks.
  • 00:12:53
Trust me. And I think today is going to be great too.
  • 00:12:55
It's going to be a bit different.
  • 00:12:57
We've been in the midst of a series looking on prayer.
  • 00:13:01
And some of the teaching has been great, specifically,
  • 00:13:04
the teaching that I've done has been great, great.
  • 00:13:08
But we thought, you know, we're like three weeks
  • 00:13:11
in this prayer series, the last one,
  • 00:13:13
here's a wild idea, what if we actually pray.
  • 00:13:20
Wow. What if instead of talking about prayer,
  • 00:13:23
    we actually pray?
  • 00:13:25
So that's what we're going to do the rest of our time.
  • 00:13:27
We have a bunch of things to do to stimulate us.
  • 00:13:30
That's part of the reason why many of our prayer lives
  • 00:13:32
is nonexistent or it's its very stale is because
  • 00:13:35
we're not sure how to pray and we don't use
  • 00:13:37
all the tools at our disposal.
  • 00:13:39
So today we're going to use a multisensory approach,
  • 00:13:41
which is really good to keep your focus when you pray.
  • 00:13:45
So one of the things that we gave you
  • 00:13:47
was one of these prayer books.
  • 00:13:49
You can all take that out. We're going to use this today.
  • 00:13:52
    If you're with us online
  • 00:13:53
or you're not in any of our rooms right now,
  • 00:13:55
then just find any piece of paper around you at all
  • 00:13:58
    and you can use this.
  • 00:14:00
We're going to go through a model for prayer
  • 00:14:03
that I've used for a long time.
  • 00:14:05
It's not the only model for prayer that I use,
  • 00:14:07
but it's one that I use, I've used for a while
  • 00:14:10
and it's been around for a while. I didn't invent this.
  • 00:14:12
It's a four step process for knowing how to pray.
  • 00:14:16
P-R-A-Y. P is for praise, R is for repent,
  • 00:14:22
A is for ask, and Y is for yield,
  • 00:14:27
hearing from God and doing what He says.
  • 00:14:30
Now these four steps are pretty related to
  • 00:14:35
one of the most iconic symbols for connecting with God
  • 00:14:40
in the Bible, which was the Old Testament temple.
  • 00:14:44
The Old Testament temple was a sign of
  • 00:14:49
the character of God and a sign of the way
  • 00:14:52
    things operate in the heavenlies.
  • 00:14:54
I'm going to go through the book of Hebrews today.
  • 00:14:56
The book of Hebrews, as we pray through
  • 00:14:58
these various portions, was created so that
  • 00:15:02
the ancient Hebrew people could see how the practices
  • 00:15:07
in the Old Testament are fulfilled in modern times.
  • 00:15:11
That's the point of Hebrews was.
  • 00:15:12
And it says this about the temple.
  • 00:15:15
It says in Hebrews 8:5: They serve at a sanctuary
  • 00:15:19
(that's the temple, they, the priests)
  • 00:15:21
that is a copy and a shadow of what is in heaven.
  • 00:15:26
So the temple, this ancient millennium,
  • 00:15:30
millennia old structure that was destroyed
  • 00:15:32
for the last time in 70 AD,
  • 00:15:34
it serves to mirror things that are in heaven.
  • 00:15:39
So let me walk you, just give you a basic overview
  • 00:15:41
of where we're going to go. This is the temple.
  • 00:15:44
What you would do is you would leave behind
  • 00:15:48
all of your old world, and you would come up into the temple.
  • 00:15:51
This is the outer court. These are the steps coming in.
  • 00:15:55
Actually, now let's come back here.
  • 00:15:57
    Let's do this right.
  • 00:15:58
You would leave behind your outer world,
  • 00:16:02
and you would walk up the steps
  • 00:16:05
and you would come into the outer court.
  • 00:16:08
We're going to be at the steps in the outer court.
  • 00:16:11
Then you would come in to where there was the sacrifices.
  • 00:16:16
In this outer court there was praise.
  • 00:16:18
You were saying, "I'm going to leave behind
  • 00:16:21
    what was behind me."
  • 00:16:22
And then you would come up into here
  • 00:16:24
where there were sacrifices, we'll talk about,
  • 00:16:25
which is the part of repentance.
  • 00:16:28
And then you would come into the more inner courts
  • 00:16:31
and you would be asking, asking God,
  • 00:16:33
    asking Him for things.
  • 00:16:35
And then you would come up to veil.
  • 00:16:37
And this veil was separating where you were here
  • 00:16:41
from where the high priest was.
  • 00:16:43
And there was a level of mystery in here,
  • 00:16:45
as the high priest was interceding for people
  • 00:16:47
and trying to hear from God.
  • 00:16:48
And this is where we yield, we yield.
  • 00:16:51
We praise, we repent, we ask, and we yield.
  • 00:16:58
We're going to do these four things today as a church.
  • 00:17:02
And if you're not part of our church,
  • 00:17:04
we're here today just as a group.
  • 00:17:05
And these are things that you can do in the future.
  • 00:17:10
Now let's start with our little prayer book here right now.
  • 00:17:14
First thing I want to do and I want to pray is
  • 00:17:15
    I recognize I am, I'm distracted.
  • 00:17:20
I'm thinking of things I've got to do.
  • 00:17:22
    Things pop into my brain.
  • 00:17:24
And so what I want to do is I just want to
  • 00:17:27
try to get out of my mind.
  • 00:17:30
Get out of my mind the things that might distract me.
  • 00:17:33
    Like, oh, remember, call Jill.
  • 00:17:35
Don't forget to pick up bread when I leave church.
  • 00:17:37
    You know, whatever it is.
  • 00:17:39
So let's use your thing just to do a brain dump.
  • 00:17:42
Whatever's on there, whatever you're thinking,
  • 00:17:44
just put it down. Get it out so you can focus.
  • 00:17:47
So, God, as we dump these things right now at Your feet,
  • 00:17:52
as we dump them at Your feet, would You take these things
  • 00:17:58
and just take care of them?
  • 00:17:59
Just help us get this out, God.
  • 00:18:02
Go ahead. Write it down. Get it out.
  • 00:18:04
1 Peter 5:7 says: Cast all your anxieties on Him.
  • 00:18:11
Cast these anxieties on Him because He cares for you.
  • 00:18:57
Okay, now we're doing, God, and as I pray right now,
  • 00:19:01
you're not going to tell maybe when I'm praying
  • 00:19:04
    and when I'm talking.
  • 00:19:05
When I'm talking to God, when I'm communicating to God,
  • 00:19:08
it's not a regimented. I'm conversing with Him.
  • 00:19:11
So you might not be able to tell what it is,
  • 00:19:13
but God is present and He is here.
  • 00:19:15
And so God, right now, as we've written these things down,
  • 00:19:18
will we try to do, God, we want to leave these things
  • 00:19:21
behind for the rest for the next hour or so,
  • 00:19:23
however much time we have left, we want to leave them behind.
  • 00:19:27
Those are behind us with our normal life.
  • 00:19:29
And so, God, we are now walking.
  • 00:19:32
We are ascending the Holy hill.
  • 00:19:34
We want to walk up the steps to have prayer with You.
  • 00:19:42
God, I pray that You would open that gigantic door
  • 00:19:45
to help us enter into Your presence.
  • 00:19:54
God, we don't want the normal stuff right now.
  • 00:19:57
We want You and we're intentionally turning our back
  • 00:20:01
on everything that's on those sheets of paper
  • 00:20:04
and everything else in our life
  • 00:20:05
that we're not going to pray about right now.
  • 00:20:08
We're here today, God, to say we want to be different.
  • 00:20:12
And we recognize that You're different.
  • 00:20:14
We're here to actually praise You.
  • 00:20:17
Hebrews 13:15 says: Through Jesus, therefore,
  • 00:20:21
let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise,
  • 00:20:27
the fruit of lips that openly profess His Name.
  • 00:20:32
And God, we start by giving You sacrifice of praise
  • 00:20:36
and telling You thank You and that we are grateful,
  • 00:20:41
    and You're worthy.
  • 00:20:45
Let's stand right now. Let's just stand
  • 00:20:47
and tell Him that right now in prayer and through a song.
  • 00:23:12
    - If you could sing those words with a full heart
  • 00:23:14
knowing that God's been with you every moment,
  • 00:23:16
every step of the way, then put your body where your heart is.
  • 00:23:20
Both hands in the air. Sing at the top of your lungs.
  • 00:25:37
    - God, I think about survival.
  • 00:25:40
    That song says I've survived.
  • 00:25:41
So many of us, God, we could say, "Man,
  • 00:25:43
    I can't believe I'm here. I survived.
  • 00:25:46
    Survived spiritually, survived emotionally,
  • 00:25:49
or survived physically. I should be dead.
  • 00:25:53
I should be dead and I have You to praise that I'm not dead."
  • 00:25:58
    Those branches should have broken
  • 00:25:59
when I was building tree forts 30 feet up in the air
  • 00:26:02
as a little kid, on branches as thick as my dad's thumb.
  • 00:26:05
Should have collapsed. I should be dead.
  • 00:26:07
Should have been dead when I crawled
  • 00:26:08
under a school bus that was idling when I got off
  • 00:26:10
to get a can to crush, and that tire skimmed my hand
  • 00:26:15
just as I left, should have been dead, but I survived.
  • 00:26:18
Should have been dead when I went 70 miles an hour
  • 00:26:20
on a rented motorcycle with no helmet
  • 00:26:22
and flying 60 feet on pavement and air, but I'm here.
  • 00:26:25
I should have could have been dead just
  • 00:26:27
a couple of years ago in a stupid hunting accident
  • 00:26:29
when a bullet hit a tree five feet above my head.
  • 00:26:33
I am here, and I am here because of You, God.
  • 00:26:37
    I'm here because of You.
  • 00:26:38
And I may be gone tomorrow. That's fine.
  • 00:26:41
I have no sense of entitlement that I should have
  • 00:26:44
a long life, I have no sense of entitlement
  • 00:26:46
of exactly what should take place in my life.
  • 00:26:48
    I just know I'm here.
  • 00:26:51
And I know I'm echoing prayers in here for others
  • 00:26:54
to say I'm here because of You. We praise You, God.
  • 00:26:57
    You're higher than we are.
  • 00:26:59
    You're greater than we are.
  • 00:27:01
You're of a different category than we are.
  • 00:27:03
You are exalted. We are low.
  • 00:27:06
You are holy. We are unholy.
  • 00:27:08
You are pure. We are impure.
  • 00:27:10
You are masterful and long term,
  • 00:27:13
and we are stupid and short term relative to You.
  • 00:27:16
You are loving and kind and we are mean and gossipers.
  • 00:27:22
You think about things that we can't think about.
  • 00:27:26
You empower people the way we can't empower them.
  • 00:27:29
Because you own the cattle on a thousand hills.
  • 00:27:31
You own all resources, all of them, because they are of You.
  • 00:27:37
And You have a way of seeing things
  • 00:27:39
and empowering people that none of us have.
  • 00:27:41
Because You are God, the holy, most upright one.
  • 00:27:46
And who are You to think of us?
  • 00:27:49
I can't believe, God, You think of us in a way
  • 00:27:52
    that I wouldn't, I don't think of ants,
  • 00:27:54
I don't think of them at all. They're way beneath me.
  • 00:27:57
An ant is closer to me than I am You.
  • 00:28:00
And yet You think of us.
  • 00:28:04
Go ahead and have a seat.
  • 00:28:06
Let's have some more prayer right now.
  • 00:28:07
Here's how you're going to pray.
  • 00:28:09
Open up your phone. Take your phone out.
  • 00:28:12
Go to your photos, and your photos are going to serve
  • 00:28:17
to remind you of ways that God has been good to you,
  • 00:28:21
the things that you are grateful for,
  • 00:28:25
    things that you're thankful for.
  • 00:28:26
    Just open up those photos.
  • 00:28:32
You know, I see, uh, gosh.
  • 00:28:35
I see a 1952 Dodge Power wagon here that I'm restoring.
  • 00:28:38
God, thanks for giving me the resources to buy
  • 00:28:40
an old truck that I don't even need. Thank You.
  • 00:28:44
I see elk. God, thank You.
  • 00:28:46
You've enabled me take down two elk this year.
  • 00:28:48
And now there's my great, great friends.
  • 00:28:51
God, thank you for richly blessing me with *** log 512.
  • 00:28:56
    Thank You, thank You.
  • 00:28:58
Always gets me, my three kids, seven grandkids
  • 00:29:02
    made me rich. So rich.
  • 00:29:05
    Go through your pictures.
  • 00:29:07
Use them as a source of gratitude to God,
  • 00:29:09
how He's blessed you and if you want to write it down,
  • 00:29:12
that's great. If not, just just use it.
  • 00:29:13
Thank you God, I praise You. Thank You for being good to me.
  • 00:29:40
Murmur it to God. Think it to God. Write it down.
  • 00:29:44
    Just tell Him.
  • 00:29:45
He never grows tired of His children complimenting him.
  • 00:29:51
We don't do compliments in our culture
  • 00:29:53
and therefore many of us don't compliment God.
  • 00:29:55
    Just give it to Him.
  • 00:29:56
You want your kids to compliment you.
  • 00:29:57
I'd like it too every once in a while.
  • 00:30:00
Give it to your heavenly father.
  • 00:30:11
Matthew 6:9, Jesus says: Pray then like this:
  • 00:30:14
"Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your Name."
  • 00:30:19
God, You are hallowed, which means holy.
  • 00:30:21
You are distinct. You are different.
  • 00:30:23
You're in a class all your own.
  • 00:30:27
We would never -- We would never be as kind
  • 00:30:29
or as good or as generous to lesser things
  • 00:30:32
the way You are to us. Who are we?
  • 00:30:35
Who are we that you think of us?
  • 00:30:38
We want to be more like You.
  • 00:30:41
And we praise You for who You are. It's astounding.
  • 00:30:50
Now, as we talk with God and as we praise Him,
  • 00:30:56
it's really hard, God, for us to look at You
  • 00:31:00
    without simultaneously seeing ourselves.
  • 00:31:03
And when we're looking at You,
  • 00:31:05
I feel that much worse about myself.
  • 00:31:09
The less I believe about You,
  • 00:31:12
the higher I'm going to think about myself.
  • 00:31:16
Maybe the reason, God, were so -- we're so defiant
  • 00:31:19
in our culture and we're so unapologetic is because
  • 00:31:23
we just don't know You and we're just too high on ourselves.
  • 00:31:26
But as I see You and Your standard, I come woefully short.
  • 00:31:32
I am sickened, I'm sickened, actually,
  • 00:31:36
by the things that I do, the things I am,
  • 00:31:39
the thoughts that I have, the way I judge others,
  • 00:31:42
hang ups that I have that I just I'm still hung up on.
  • 00:31:51
I'm not going to confess all of those
  • 00:31:53
in front of thousands of people,
  • 00:31:54
but I have and I will privately,
  • 00:31:56
and I will to my closest friends.
  • 00:31:58
But God, I recognize these things are just heinous
  • 00:32:01
and horrible and I want to repent.
  • 00:32:04
I want to turn from the ways that I'm not like You,
  • 00:32:08
turn the things that disgust You.
  • 00:32:12
As they would come into the temple
  • 00:32:15
and they would start their praise,
  • 00:32:17
and then they would go in and they would have
  • 00:32:19
the place where the sacrifice was.
  • 00:32:21
The sacrifice was given as they would bring
  • 00:32:23
a baby calf, say, or a lamb, or if you were in poverty
  • 00:32:27
and you couldn't afford that to sacrifice,
  • 00:32:29
you could bring a little a turtle dove
  • 00:32:31
or a little dove, pigeon to bring.
  • 00:32:34
And the priests who were men would sacrifice these.
  • 00:32:38
One of the theories for why these priests were men
  • 00:32:40
and why God didn't want women, just a theory,
  • 00:32:43
is that this was a very physical job.
  • 00:32:45
It's like manual labor back when, yeah,
  • 00:32:49
it's manual labor, because all day long
  • 00:32:51
these guys would be taking these lambs and these calves
  • 00:32:54
and lifting them up and putting them down on an altar
  • 00:32:59
all day long and required muscle mass that
  • 00:33:01
the average woman didn't have to do that all day long.
  • 00:33:07
When we think about sacrificial system,
  • 00:33:10
we get kind of grossed out because many of us
  • 00:33:13
have never seen blood unless we accidentally cut ourselves.
  • 00:33:17
So the thought of bloody sacrifice freaks you and I out
  • 00:33:21
because we've never seen an animal die, most of us, before.
  • 00:33:26
We've never -- Most of us, even though we eat chicken,
  • 00:33:28
we've never actually killed a chicken.
  • 00:33:30
    This is very rare.
  • 00:33:31
It's only really within the last 60 years in America
  • 00:33:34
    that this has been affordable.
  • 00:33:37
In the ancient world, the blood wouldn't freak them out
  • 00:33:39
because they saw blood all the time.
  • 00:33:42
What freaked them out was that they knew
  • 00:33:44
the spiritual significance of what was taking place.
  • 00:33:48
They would bring their animal to the priest.
  • 00:33:50
The priest would put it on top of the altar,
  • 00:33:53
and both of them would put their hands
  • 00:33:54
on top of the animal, and the priest would take a knife
  • 00:33:57
    and slit the animal's throat.
  • 00:34:02
And blood would go all over the place,
  • 00:34:05
and there would be a bleeding and a death that was happening.
  • 00:34:09
And this person who had their hands on the animal
  • 00:34:13
wasn't freaked out by the blood.
  • 00:34:14
They were freaked out at the spiritual weightiness of this
  • 00:34:17
because they knew what was happening was this:
  • 00:34:19
"God, who am I? I should be dead.
  • 00:34:23
I should be, I should be the one.
  • 00:34:26
Because something that's less than me
  • 00:34:27
does something that dishonors me, I squash it.
  • 00:34:30
Whether it's a bug or another person with my gossip
  • 00:34:32
and God, who am I that You are passing over my stuff
  • 00:34:37
and reminding me from the death that that should be me?"
  • 00:34:43
When you and I come to God, when we come to place
  • 00:34:46
of who You are, we come to a place of who we are,
  • 00:34:48
    and it's disgusting.
  • 00:34:51
God, we're sorry for lowering Your standards
  • 00:34:55
so that we can barely meet them.
  • 00:34:59
God, we're sorry for being more interested
  • 00:35:05
in unholiness than we are in holiness.
  • 00:35:10
God, we're sorry for just not being willing
  • 00:35:15
to have Your fire refine us,
  • 00:35:20
to have You do something different in us.
  • 00:35:23
Let's take our books out right now
  • 00:35:27
and let's just write down the things you need to repent of.
  • 00:35:35
The things you're going to confess before God,
  • 00:35:37
He knows what these things are.
  • 00:35:38
But you know when you say that to somebody you care about,
  • 00:35:41
you go, "Thank you. That means a lot to me"
  • 00:35:43
It would mean a lot to God for you to tell Him
  • 00:35:46
what He already knows, and that is whatever. Write it down.
  • 00:35:50
We're going to do something with that. Write it down.
  • 00:35:52
And now, if you're afraid someone's going to look
  • 00:35:54
over your shoulder or beside you, I understand
  • 00:35:56
you don't want them to see that.
  • 00:35:58
Just, you can use a code word if you want.
  • 00:36:00
He knows what you're talking about.
  • 00:36:02
Let's just list our sin that needs to be burned.
  • 00:36:05
Let's say our sin that's separating us
  • 00:36:08
from having a relationship with God we want.
  • 00:36:10
    Just write it down.
  • 00:38:46
    - There's an interesting transition
  • 00:38:49
that takes place in the temple.
  • 00:38:51
Again, that verse we read earlier says
  • 00:38:53
the temple is a mirror of things that are in heaven.
  • 00:38:56
It's setting the people of God up for understanding the future.
  • 00:39:00
And if you've received Christ, you're a person of God.
  • 00:39:03
You're a part of the people of God.
  • 00:39:04
    Hebrews 10:12 says this:
  • 00:39:06
But when Christ had offered for all time
  • 00:39:09
    a single sacrifice for sins,
  • 00:39:13
He sat down at the right hand of God.
  • 00:39:17
The priests, as they were offering,
  • 00:39:19
    they kept offering and offering.
  • 00:39:21
There was no end to offering.
  • 00:39:23
Just bring more, bring more, bring more, bring more.
  • 00:39:27
    Jesus is the perfect lamb.
  • 00:39:29
And when He goes to the cross, it's in essence the altar.
  • 00:39:34
And it's a public spectacle where He spreads out His arms.
  • 00:39:39
Instead of a knife to the throat,
  • 00:39:41
    nails go through the wrists.
  • 00:39:46
And the right wrist, and a single nail through both feet.
  • 00:39:58
It was a shameful act where He was cursed publicly.
  • 00:40:02
And this happened because He was our representative,
  • 00:40:06
    as was the ancient offerings
  • 00:40:09
    were the people's representative.
  • 00:40:10
The difference was it's a one time thing.
  • 00:40:13
One time only. One time he did it.
  • 00:40:15
And then He sat down because as a high priest,
  • 00:40:18
He didn't have to keep offering sacrifices
  • 00:40:20
because there's only one, and He gave it for you and for I,
  • 00:40:24
for anybody who would receive Him.
  • 00:40:25
Now I'm going to pray some prayers of repentance.
  • 00:40:27
And I'll just say this, some of you
  • 00:40:29
aren't going to like these prayers.
  • 00:40:31
Some of you aren't going to agree with these prayers.
  • 00:40:33
That's okay. You don't have to agree with them.
  • 00:40:35
Say your own, but I'm going to represent us
  • 00:40:37
and I'm going to say things and pray things
  • 00:40:39
I want to with repentance, and then you can do the same,
  • 00:40:43
or you can participate with me.
  • 00:40:46
So God I am disgusted at my low standards.
  • 00:40:53
I keep trying to dumb down my standards and 'm sorry.
  • 00:40:57
I'm so sorry that I'm afraid to be like You.
  • 00:41:01
And I'm looking for every reason to be
  • 00:41:03
the person I want to be,
  • 00:41:05
instead of be the person that You want me to be.
  • 00:41:09
    And God, I'm sorry.
  • 00:41:10
We're sorry that our church is not better at this either.
  • 00:41:15
We're sorry, God, that we in our church, we want to fit in.
  • 00:41:20
We want to be one of the cool kids.
  • 00:41:22
And we've got all the isms here in our church,
  • 00:41:24
all of them, all the isms that some of us have repented of:
  • 00:41:27
    materialism, hedonism, racism, isolationism, judgmentalism.
  • 00:41:35
God, we should be better. We should be better than we are.
  • 00:41:40
    God, we confess. We confess.
  • 00:41:42
Man, those of us on the right are more into being in
  • 00:41:46
the right than we are being into the Kingdom of God.
  • 00:41:49
Those on the left are more into our ideology
  • 00:41:52
than we are being in the Kingdom of God.
  • 00:41:54
God, those of us on the right, we have our newsfeeds.
  • 00:41:56
We have our things we believe.
  • 00:41:57
And if we don't hear what we want to hear, we get upset.
  • 00:42:00
Well, what about hearing from God?
  • 00:42:01
Those on the left, we're on the left,
  • 00:42:03
we're getting our own news feeds.
  • 00:42:05
And if we don't hear what we want to hear,
  • 00:42:07
oh, man, we are not happy about that at all.
  • 00:42:09
God, we confess we are more into our politics
  • 00:42:12
than we are the Kingdom of God.
  • 00:42:14
    We're sorry. It's disgusting.
  • 00:42:15
We confess that we are broken about our brokenness,
  • 00:42:20
and we're confess God that we're broken
  • 00:42:21
about the state of our country. Horrible.
  • 00:42:24
God, it's the basic incident, man, that
  • 00:42:27
we can't even agree on because we're so divided
  • 00:42:30
because it doesn't agree with our political view.
  • 00:42:34
God, we confess our heart that we're not broken,
  • 00:42:37
that a man could be shot in the back while he lies down
  • 00:42:41
by somebody whose salary paid through our taxes.
  • 00:42:44
God, I learned watching Lone Ranger
  • 00:42:46
when I was a little kid, don't shoot somebody in the back.
  • 00:42:48
    That's if they're standing up.
  • 00:42:50
Freaking lying down on the ground and getting shot
  • 00:42:53
in the back with a phone in our hand.
  • 00:42:55
And God, sorry, we're not disgusted by this.
  • 00:42:57
We're more interested in defending our worldview
  • 00:43:00
and political view and our immigration status or beliefs,
  • 00:43:04
then just noticing it's a horrible betrayal.
  • 00:43:07
And God, we confess that --
  • 00:43:10
We confess that we don't react well
  • 00:43:12
when something happens that we don't like,
  • 00:43:14
whether it's a church staff member who gets fired,
  • 00:43:16
if we like that staff member,
  • 00:43:18
we're more into maybe that then we're into the truth
  • 00:43:21
    of the unholiness behind it.
  • 00:43:24
God, we're asking we become a better and different church.
  • 00:43:27
We're asking that we would all be raving lunatics of love
  • 00:43:33
while at the same time being broken by our sin.
  • 00:43:38
We know that we get that from You.
  • 00:43:40
You've modeled that, You've loved us,
  • 00:43:43
and You've been broken by our sin because You've been broken.
  • 00:43:47
    Mhm. Man, You're good.
  • 00:43:52
Jesus sat down because all things we wrote, they're over.
  • 00:43:55
    So whatever your things were,
  • 00:43:57
here's what we're going to do.
  • 00:43:58
Just rip out that piece of paper,
  • 00:43:59
or if you want to make another one,
  • 00:44:01
just rip out that piece of paper.
  • 00:44:04
Like these things, just crumple them up.
  • 00:44:06
They're over, done. They're done. Means nothing to God.
  • 00:44:10
You thought the people who were in the service
  • 00:44:12
    before you were really sloppy?
  • 00:44:14
No, because what we're doing now is
  • 00:44:16
we're going to throw them in the aisle,
  • 00:44:18
and we're going to walk on them because they're nothing.
  • 00:44:21
    They're beneath us. Means nothing.
  • 00:44:23
So just throw it in the aisle.
  • 00:44:25
If you're in the middle and you can't reach it
  • 00:44:27
and someone's sin hits you in the face,
  • 00:44:29
just put it in the aisle for them, because it's nothing.
  • 00:44:33
    Get it away from you.
  • 00:44:34
    Here's the great news:
  • 00:44:36
God doesn't identify you with your sin.
  • 00:44:38
He identifies you with who Jesus is.
  • 00:44:41
And we're going to walk all over it
  • 00:44:42
as we walk out of here and around here today.
  • 00:44:46
    That's how good His. [applause]
  • 00:44:53
That He has the standards that He has
  • 00:44:57
and still is loving us and it's still sat down
  • 00:45:00
and said, "Okay, I'm done with it." Stunning.
  • 00:45:03
    That's our God.
  • 00:45:05
Why don't we want to talk with Him more often, I don't know.
  • 00:45:09
Mhm. Now we've gotten our self, God, in a place to ask.
  • 00:45:18
We've left the things behind us.
  • 00:45:20
We've rightly put You in the place in our minds,
  • 00:45:22
which is where You are hallowed and holy and powerful and pure.
  • 00:45:27
We've done a little cleanse of our life
  • 00:45:28
and we've said to you, God, here's the things
  • 00:45:32
I think are standing away, standing in the way
  • 00:45:34
    of my relationship with You.
  • 00:45:36
We've done those things, and now we're ready to ask.
  • 00:45:42
    Hebrews 4:16 says this:
  • 00:45:45
Let us approach God's throne of grace with confidence,
  • 00:45:51
so that we may receive mercy
  • 00:45:54
and find grace to help us in our time of need.
  • 00:45:58
So we go to God with confidence now, like,
  • 00:46:02
I'm not like this meager little woe is me. I'm not worthy.
  • 00:46:07
No, like, Jesus has died for me.
  • 00:46:10
He's good with me and I go before Him in confidence.
  • 00:46:14
I go deeper in prayer to where I actually ask.
  • 00:46:18
There's a barrier between many of us and God,
  • 00:46:21
or we perceive there this barrier. There is no barrier.
  • 00:46:25
God can hear from you at any time, in any place,
  • 00:46:28
any type of prayer that you want.
  • 00:46:30
When Jesus dies on a cross, being the ultimate sacrifice
  • 00:46:35
that sets us right before God,
  • 00:46:37
there's a significant thing that happens the moment He dies.
  • 00:46:41
It details it in the New Testament.
  • 00:46:44
When He dies there is a curtain
  • 00:46:46
    that's 60 feet high, 30 feet wide,
  • 00:46:49
and about the width of a hand thick.
  • 00:46:52
A big, thick, massive thing that would separate
  • 00:46:56
the normal people from the Holy of Holies,
  • 00:47:00
where there was the Ark of the Covenant
  • 00:47:02
that contained things like Moses's staff
  • 00:47:05
and the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments.
  • 00:47:08
And this was the place where the high holy priests would go.
  • 00:47:12
    And there was a mystery,
  • 00:47:13
a mystery of what was going on there,
  • 00:47:14
because there was this curtain that was separate.
  • 00:47:16
No one could go in there.
  • 00:47:18
And some of us that might have kept our prayer life back
  • 00:47:21
because we feel like, I don't know what to say.
  • 00:47:25
I don't know what goes on in there, I don't know.
  • 00:47:28
Here's the thing, God breaks down that barrier
  • 00:47:32
    that's between us.
  • 00:47:34
When Jesus dies, God reaches down
  • 00:47:38
and He grabs the top of that curtain.
  • 00:48:51
    - He has power to heal, power to save,
  • 00:48:54
and He has power to say yes to your requests.
  • 00:48:58
Take out your prayer journal again if you'd like.
  • 00:49:02
And now we're just going to ask.
  • 00:49:05
We're going to ask God what you want Him to do for you.
  • 00:49:12
Because you're more qualified to ask now than ever before.
  • 00:49:16
Because you set your heart right before God exalting Him.
  • 00:49:19
You've cleared out the garbage and junk
  • 00:49:23
and the things you still want to happen right now,
  • 00:49:25
you're probably more more likely to be praying
  • 00:49:29
in alignment with the will of God,
  • 00:49:31
which will cause Him to have more yeses
  • 00:49:34
than had you not done what we just did.
  • 00:49:37
Bible says you have not because you ask not.
  • 00:49:41
It's a good news to know that there are things that
  • 00:49:44
you could have and you don't have
  • 00:49:46
    just because you haven't asked.
  • 00:49:51
So write them down right now.
  • 00:49:52
What do you want? Write them down.
  • 00:49:55
I'll pray and you can write.
  • 00:50:04
God, I am praying for those of us
  • 00:50:09
the ends never meet at the end of the month.
  • 00:50:11
They never do. I don't know.
  • 00:50:15
For some of us, there's an income problem?
  • 00:50:17
Is it a wisdom problem? But I don't know.
  • 00:50:19
But I'm praying that You would make a way,
  • 00:50:22
that You would bring resources where there aren't resources,
  • 00:50:27
You'd bring wisdom where there isn't wisdom.
  • 00:50:29
Some of us, God, are unbelievably lonely.
  • 00:50:31
We identify with the isolationism sin.
  • 00:50:35
But it's not by our our own choosing.
  • 00:50:37
We don't like it. We don't want to be isolated.
  • 00:50:39
We're just -- We're not sure how to make a friend
  • 00:50:41
    or find a friend.
  • 00:50:44
God, bring a friend. Bring one.
  • 00:50:47
Some of us would like to be married.
  • 00:50:49
We're frustrated we can't find the right person.
  • 00:50:52
God, would you at least give us a date?
  • 00:50:56
    Give us a date?
  • 00:50:58
Cause the wart to fall off the end of our nose
  • 00:51:00
so we're attractive to that person. Yeah.
  • 00:51:04
In case you're wondering, God finds me funny.
  • 00:51:06
In case you wonder why. We're talking to God.
  • 00:51:09
I ask that, um, I asked for --
  • 00:51:11
I've talked with folks in here, man, they want a child
  • 00:51:14
or they want another child, and things just aren't working.
  • 00:51:17
I pray that the uterus, the wall lining
  • 00:51:19
would hold what it needs to.
  • 00:51:21
I pray that the sperm would be strong swimmers.
  • 00:51:23
I pray that You would create life for a couple
  • 00:51:28
that wants to honor You because You say
  • 00:51:30
    to be fruitful and multiply.
  • 00:51:32
And for those couples that want that,
  • 00:51:33
I ask that you would make that come to pass.
  • 00:51:36
Just if you're here with someone you're married to
  • 00:51:39
and that's you, you both identify with that,
  • 00:51:41
put your hand on right now. Put your hand on.
  • 00:51:45
Do your thing. Do your thing.
  • 00:51:50
God, we pray for our church that in the midst
  • 00:51:53
of all of our differences here, that we would be
  • 00:51:56
a place where Republicans are happy to worship with Democrats
  • 00:52:00
and lefties are happy to worship with righties.
  • 00:52:02
That the world would look at us and go,
  • 00:52:04
"How do those people have some different convictions
  • 00:52:07
    about immigration?
  • 00:52:08
How do people have some different convictions
  • 00:52:10
    on the budget or whatever?
  • 00:52:11
And yet they still are one,
  • 00:52:13
yet they still love one another?"
  • 00:52:15
Yeah, God, we want to be a peculiar people.
  • 00:52:17
That's what You want. We want to be a different people.
  • 00:52:19
We are different than the average person in our culture.
  • 00:52:23
We choose to not be how --
  • 00:52:25
God, we're asking that we're not defined by our politics,
  • 00:52:28
but we're defined by our identity as a child of God,
  • 00:52:32
that that will be our strong suit.
  • 00:52:35
God, I pray for the medical diagnoses that are --
  • 00:52:38
That seem to be that we've reached the end of the road
  • 00:52:40
    and there's no nothing else
  • 00:52:41
other than You to be the Great Physician.
  • 00:52:43
I thank you, God, that you have been doing
  • 00:52:46
legitimate physical healings in our midst.
  • 00:52:50
And we want more. We want more.
  • 00:52:55
God, I pray for the --
  • 00:53:00
We ask for help with the mental illness
  • 00:53:03
    that ravages our culture
  • 00:53:04
and ravages many of us in our church.
  • 00:53:07
If You bring healing to the physical eyes,
  • 00:53:10
    You can bring healing
  • 00:53:11
to the synaptic connections in our brain.
  • 00:53:14
    We ask for, God.
  • 00:53:33
Write down what you want. Write it if you have not,
  • 00:53:36
    maybe because you haven't asked.
  • 00:56:28
    - Hmm. Okay, now we're going to yield.
  • 00:56:32
God's heard a lot from us, and now we're going to see
  • 00:56:36
if we hear something from God.
  • 00:56:39
    When God tore this curtain
  • 00:56:42
from the top all the way to the bottom,
  • 00:56:48
it opened up the Holy of Holies, where there was mystery
  • 00:56:51
of what the high priest was doing in there.
  • 00:56:53
    Because there was something, apparently,
  • 00:56:55
that was special between the high priest and God.
  • 00:56:58
And at that time in redemptive history
  • 00:57:02
    that was sealed and separated.
  • 00:57:03
Well, now the curtain is torn.
  • 00:57:05
God was saying, "No, it's not.
  • 00:57:06
Anybody can talk to Me any time.
  • 00:57:08
Anybody can hear from Me at any time."
  • 00:57:12
How do we hear from God?
  • 00:57:13
Well, we maybe have a thought that crosses our mind,
  • 00:57:15
    "Where did that come from?
  • 00:57:16
Because that's not something I would normally think of."
  • 00:57:19
And Jesus probably likes that thought,
  • 00:57:20
well, just assume that was God.
  • 00:57:23
Maybe it is a literal thing that you hear.
  • 00:57:26
    Maybe it's a just a strong urge that's unusual.
  • 00:57:30
We have to learn and can learn to discern
  • 00:57:33
what is just our own emotions and our own enzymes
  • 00:57:36
and what's actually the Spirit of God.
  • 00:57:40
Hebrews 7:25, talking about how the temple
  • 00:57:43
can relate today, says: Therefore He is able to save
  • 00:57:46
completely those who come to God through Him,
  • 00:57:49
because He always lives to intercede for them.
  • 00:57:52
Meaning, as Jesus sat down with God,
  • 00:57:55
He's talking about you to Him.
  • 00:57:58
"Hey, you know, John, I gotta tell you,
  • 00:58:00
God, take care of John. I'm telling You he's with me.
  • 00:58:03
I know he's got -- Take care of him.
  • 00:58:04
Hey hey hey hey, Jill. Have Jill do xyz."
  • 00:58:08
He's -- You're being prayed for by Jesus.
  • 00:58:11
That's how vast His mind is.
  • 00:58:13
And so when I yield, when we yield,
  • 00:58:16
we're just being silent before God.
  • 00:58:18
It's like we're asking God to let us overhear Him,
  • 00:58:23
    overhear what He's praying for,
  • 00:58:25
and see if He says anything.
  • 00:58:26
Jesus says this is an act of the Holy Spirit.
  • 00:58:30
And He likens the Holy Spirit to wind
  • 00:58:32
    that's very unpredictable.
  • 00:58:35
So let's spend a moment just being silent
  • 00:58:38
and see if God actually says something to you,
  • 00:58:42
if the Spirit of God moves in your life.
  • 00:58:45
Spirit, come, speak as we want to yield.
  • 00:59:32
Now something's coming to you that like you say,
  • 00:59:34
"Hmm, that's interesting I thought of that."
  • 00:59:37
I don't think God at least would oppose that.
  • 00:59:40
Well, then just assume that God spoke to you,
  • 00:59:42
and now you get to yield to it.
  • 00:59:45
Actually, make a note of it. Write it down like, Hmm.
  • 00:59:47
So therefore, as you yield, you're saying,
  • 00:59:50
"God, I'm not just going to be a person of conversation,
  • 00:59:52
I'm going to be a person of action.
  • 00:59:54
I'm going to leave here, and I'm going to do this thing,
  • 00:59:57
    going to forgive that person,
  • 01:00:00
going to pray for my enemy,
  • 01:00:02
going to bless that person some way, shape or form.
  • 01:00:06
Going to start this thing, going to stop that."
  • 01:00:09
Whatever it is, just go ahead and go ahead
  • 01:00:10
    and write that down.
  • 01:00:19
We have in front of the stages and all of our sites
  • 01:00:25
    mock wailing walls,
  • 01:00:26
a cheap representation of the Wailing Wall,
  • 01:00:29
which if you've ever been to Jerusalem,
  • 01:00:31
    which I've been many times.
  • 01:00:33
You can go, and the temple was obliterated.
  • 01:00:35
Temple hasn't been around since 70 AD.
  • 01:00:37
The temple has been destroyed and rebuilt a number of times.
  • 01:00:40
The last time it was around and destroyed was about 70 AD.
  • 01:00:43
Right now the mosque stands there, is there right now.
  • 01:00:47
The dome of the Rock is there.
  • 01:00:49
But what you can do is you can see the stones
  • 01:00:53
that were the former retaining walls
  • 01:00:56
for the foundation of the temple.
  • 01:00:59
Those retaining wall stones are still there today.
  • 01:01:03
Actually, as I speak right now, there are Jews
  • 01:01:07
who are taking prayers and they are sticking them
  • 01:01:11
in the corner of the Wailing Wall, in the slices,
  • 01:01:14
in the rocks, or visitors who are Christians
  • 01:01:18
who are there right now as well,
  • 01:01:20
    sticking prayers into those rocks.
  • 01:01:23
Now they do that because it's a good thing for them to do.
  • 01:01:26
They want to enjoy doing that. It's a meaningful thing.
  • 01:01:30
But it goes in rocks and it stays there.
  • 01:01:32
At all of our sites, we have many wailing walls
  • 01:01:36
where we're going to be able to bring
  • 01:01:38
and put our prayers into the retaining walls of the temple.
  • 01:01:42
And unlike the Wailing Wall, if you want,
  • 01:01:46
this week we have a growing list of people
  • 01:01:48
who are on our prayer team.
  • 01:01:49
All of those things are going to be prayed for
  • 01:01:52
by a person who is a prayer guru and loves to pray.
  • 01:01:56
All of them at at all of our sites.
  • 01:01:59
So you could take the page out of here t
  • 01:02:02
hat was all of your asks.
  • 01:02:03
You could just write one more thing on here if you want.
  • 01:02:06
You can do nothing, whatever you want.
  • 01:02:09
But we're going to connect with God.
  • 01:02:11
We're going to do a song, and you're going to be able
  • 01:02:13
to come forward as a as a sacred moment that says,
  • 01:02:16
    "God, I need your power.
  • 01:02:19
    Power beyond what I understand.
  • 01:02:21
And I need prayer, and I want You to do something."
  • 01:02:25
So, God, we choose to trust in You right now.
  • 01:02:28
We're going to write these things down,
  • 01:02:30
and we want to trust that You're going to do
  • 01:02:33
something that we can't do, and we're going to ask
  • 01:02:35
that You say yes as we declare,
  • 01:02:37
whether you say yes or no, I choose to trust in You.
  • 01:02:45
    - We have a father who loves us.
  • 01:02:50
He's not bummed out when we say,
  • 01:02:51
"God, I need You to show up.
  • 01:02:52
God, I need You to bring healing.
  • 01:02:54
God, I need You to bring comfort.
  • 01:02:55
God, I need You to bring whatever."
  • 01:02:57
God loves it when we approach Him
  • 01:02:59
    with boldness and confidence.
  • 01:03:02
God loves it, the articulation of trust that it is,
  • 01:03:05
and love for Him that it is.
  • 01:03:07
I want you to say, "God, we need you."
  • 01:03:09
I don't know what your prayer is.
  • 01:03:11
I don't know what the thing is that you're asking God for,
  • 01:03:14
but I know that God cares about it.
  • 01:03:17
And I know that God wants to see you,
  • 01:03:19
not just think about a thing, or even pray about a thing,
  • 01:03:22
but take a step in faith towards Him.
  • 01:03:26
So while people at sites are going to be
  • 01:03:28
putting their prayers, folding them up
  • 01:03:29
and setting them in the little cracks of
  • 01:03:31
our mock wailing walls here, there's nothing magical
  • 01:03:34
about these fake walls at our site,
  • 01:03:36
or even about the real Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.
  • 01:03:39
    There's nothing magical about it,
  • 01:03:40
but there's something special about taking
  • 01:03:44
a step towards God, about doing that tangibly.
  • 01:03:47
So we're going to do that even online right now.
  • 01:03:49
This is a chance for you to participate
  • 01:03:50
wherever you are in the world, whenever you're watching this.
  • 01:03:53
We have a tool called Tagboard.
  • 01:03:55
There's a QR code that will be up on the screen.
  • 01:03:57
You just need to scan that.
  • 01:03:59
And once you go there, it'll just have you,
  • 01:04:01
give you an opportunity, totally anonymously
  • 01:04:03
    to submit your prayer request.
  • 01:04:05
And myself and the prayer teams will be praying for you
  • 01:04:08
and for your prayer request specifically.
  • 01:04:11
Again, this is a moment for you online, wherever you are,
  • 01:04:16
to say, "God, I need You to show up and I yield this.
  • 01:04:19
I hand it over to You," by texting it in to us right now.
  • 01:04:23
So make this an expression of your trust in God
  • 01:04:27
that He wants to answer your prayers.
  • 01:07:18
    - We'll keep receiving your prayers.
  • 01:07:20
I'll just close with this: Hebrews 13:20-21:
  • 01:07:23
Now may the God of peace, that's who He is,
  • 01:07:27
the God of peace, equip you with everything to do His will.
  • 01:07:34
God, thank You for the pleasure of talking with You.
  • 01:07:37
We want to do Your will and we're asking You
  • 01:07:40
to say yes to these prayers, bless these people. Amen.
  • 01:12:10
    - I hope today was a reminder that God loves you,
  • 01:12:12
that He has great things for you,
  • 01:12:14
that He wants to connect with you.
  • 01:12:16
And that this journey, this template that we went through
  • 01:12:18
    of praise, repent, ask, yield,
  • 01:12:20
this isn't just a one time thing.
  • 01:12:22
This could be your everyday thing.
  • 01:12:24
This could be an incredibly helpful way
  • 01:12:26
for you to connect with God, to hear from Him all the time.
  • 01:12:30
Now, I love seeing these prayer requests come in,
  • 01:12:33
    again, totally anonymous.
  • 01:12:35
But all of these requests through tagboard
  • 01:12:37
of people saying, "God, I need You to show up."
  • 01:12:39
I need You to show up for my daughter,
  • 01:12:41
for her to reconnect with her faith,
  • 01:12:42
for her to find a church,
  • 01:12:43
for people to experience healing from ALS.
  • 01:12:47
Lots of prayer requests for people's jobs,
  • 01:12:50
for people to find meaningful work, God,
  • 01:12:53
for people to find gainful employment.
  • 01:12:55
And lots and lots of requests for physical healing.
  • 01:12:58
Whatever your request is, go ahead and send that in.
  • 01:13:00
We want to be praying for those things
  • 01:13:02
all week long and all month long.
  • 01:13:04
And I'll say this also, you can send us an email
  • 01:13:07
    crossroads.net/Anywhere
  • 01:13:08
    or just email us anywhere@crossroads.net.
  • 01:13:12
Either way, that'll get to me and my team.
  • 01:13:14
We'd love to be praying for you, specifically,
  • 01:13:17
that God would show up, that He would heal,
  • 01:13:18
that He would restore, that He would redeem.
  • 01:13:21
Now, thank you so much for joining us again.
  • 01:13:24
    This isn't just a church.
  • 01:13:25
This is a journey that we get to take with God.
  • 01:13:27
He's always inviting us into more and more and more.
  • 01:13:31
Particularly if you've got a friend
  • 01:13:33
who maybe gave up on church
  • 01:13:34
or hasn't been to church ever in a long time,
  • 01:13:36
hey, Super Bowl of Preaching really could change
  • 01:13:40
things for them in a powerful way.
  • 01:13:41
That'll be next week. It's going to be a blast.
  • 01:13:43
    And if you're watching online,
  • 01:13:45
if you're attending a site, hey, if you can get to a site, do it.
  • 01:13:48
    If you're watching online,
  • 01:13:49
we'll have an incredible experience for you guys as well.
  • 01:13:51
Just like going to the game is awesome
  • 01:13:53
and watching the game at home is fantastic.
  • 01:13:55
But special shout out to those of you
  • 01:13:56
who are hosting Super Bowl of Preaching watch parties.
  • 01:13:59
We'd love to have you guys do that.
  • 01:14:01
Open up your home, invite friends in to experience this.
  • 01:14:03
And we actually have a training like right now,
  • 01:14:05
I'm going to get off this call
  • 01:14:06
and I'm going to go to the QR code, the Zoom link below,
  • 01:14:09
and I'll be hanging out there with some friends
  • 01:14:11
to help you get set up to host
  • 01:14:13
the best Super Bowl of Preaching watch party ever,
  • 01:14:15
or just answer any questions you might have
  • 01:14:17
about our church, or about what God's doing here.
  • 01:14:20
Hey, as always, know that God loves you
  • 01:14:23
and He wants to see you experience
  • 01:14:25
the more full and abundant life that He's promised.
  • 01:14:27
If there anything we can do to encourage you
  • 01:14:29
in that direction, we'd love to.
  • 01:14:31
Have a great week and we'll see you next time
  • 01:14:33
for the Super Bowl of Preaching.

Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Weekend-Follow Up!

This is the group part of the Bible Challenge, so your questions are based on specific Bible passages from the weekend message. Each week, your group will discover what God might be saying to you, and how you can respond through a group discussion.

  1. What’s something you like to do that eases stress and brings peace?

  2. What stood out to you most from the message?

  3. What are 2 things you’re thankful for God doing in your life?

  4. There’s a prayer outline called P.R.A.Y.—Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield. Which one is easy for you to do? Which one might be difficult?

  5. How can reflecting on the Jewish temple and sacrifices help us when we pray?

  6. Read Hebrews 4:16. How can you approach Jesus’ throne with confidence?

  7. Read Hebrews 7:25. How does it make you feel, knowing that Jesus prays for you?

  8. What’s one thing you can do this week to continue to talk to God and ask him to answer your prayers?

  9. Let’s end our time praying together. You can say something like;

“God, you desire to spend time with us. Help us not be afraid to repeatedly ask for what we want. Thank you for wanting to answer and give us good things. Please give us strength as we grow in prayer. In the identity and character of your name we pray, amen.”
