People Skills | Week 4: How to Have Thick Skin
Rejection. Everyone feels it. We’re all different people, but rejection says the same things to each of us. Give a single sentence example of what rejection sounds like to you. Take turns sharing examples until you run out of steam. (And rejection runs out of lies.)
Jesus felt rejection too. Even from his hometown. (Ouch.) Read this passage out loud. What sticks out to you? Have you ever been betrayed by those that knew you?
Each person share a time when you experienced rejection–what were the circumstances and the impact?
When you experience rejection. Are you more likely to blame yourself, or blame the other person? Give an example.
Finding the purpose, or persevering in rejection can bring hope. (It sure did with Jesus.) Now, recall a time when you experienced rejection, and it turned out well for you in the long run.
Let’s face it, rejection sucks. When we get rejected most of us reach for options that involve lots of ice cream, wine, or Twitter rants. Rejection is a real part of life, but it doesn’t have to destroy us. We can develop thick skin that faces rejection and helps us bounce back.
