How to Hear God | Week 4: Obedience

Discussion questions to help you unpack the message with others.
  1. There are a ton of ways to hear from God. Let’s try one called Bible Roulette. Grab a Bible. (Digital or paper is fine.) Pick a random chapter and verse and read it out loud to the group. Then, discuss what verses you shared. Were they random? Or is God saying something to your group right now?

  2. One of the things that can distract us from hearing God’s voice is noise. Take 2 minutes and write down all the things that cause noise and distraction in your life. Even if those things are “good” things. Write ‘em down and then share the list with your group. (Spotify, Podcasts, Netflix, Road Rage, Meetings. etc.)

  3. When things are quiet, we can hear better. Read this story about a guy named Samuel out loud. What stood out to you? Share with your group?

  4. Let’s try out the advice Eli gave Samuel. Out loud, as a group say “Speak, for your servant hears.” Then sit in silence for 3 whole minutes and listen for the quiet nudge of God. When time is up, share whatever was in your mind.

  5. The other side of hearing is obeying. For those people in the group that heard God say go and do something during your quiet time, or in service this weekend, share it. And share what you’re going to do about it.

New around here? We'd love to connect

The best way to hear God is to obey God. Sounds tricky, but it really isn’t that complicated—and it’s possible for all of us. When we make aggressive moves with what we think God is saying, it refines our ears to actually know what He is saying and it gives us courage to actually do what God is calling us to do.
