Data and Insights Volunteer

Want to volunteer remotely? Puzzles, spreadsheets, and data entry and clean-up more your speed? The data and insights team has a place just for you.

We contribute directly to the Crossroads mission by:
Serving as strategic consultants to ministry leaders with needs related to quantitative research, qualitative research, data analytics, measurement methods, data-mining, and prototyping of new systems and solutions. If you understood any of those words this team is for you.

Serving opportunities on our team:

Focus Group Moderator
Be empathetic and gather data at the same time

  • As a Focus Group Moderator, you will be overseeing the individuals that participate in our Labs focus groups. In addition to bringing those in the focus group together, you will be in charge of leading the participants to perform specified tasks, whether that be watching videos, talking around a subject, or giving their opinion on a product or service. Focus Group Moderators must empathize with the participants and their views, while simultaneously gathering information and data on the individuals that is needed for the Labs team.
  • You should be organized, conversational, and non-judgemental.
  • Time Commitment:
    • Required only when there is a project of this type (2-3 times a year)
    • During a project ~3 - 6 hours a week needed

Survey writing, mining a story, and making recommendations out of data

  • Curating questions and stories is an important skill set needed by our Storytellers. They understand that creating surveys that will be digestible and appealing to a wide range of people is essential to generate the best results. Our surveys are comprised of simple, surface-level questions as well as deep-dive questions that tap into [deeper things], and everything in between.
  • In order to be an effective Storyteller, it’s important that you can write effective surveys, make connections between the data gathered from our participants and create tangible insights and recommendations for our team.
  • Time Commitment:
    • Continual projects small and large
    • ~3 - 4 Hours a month

Data Admin
Data is a resource used frequently by our team, therefore it’s important that we have volunteers who help maintain the accuracy and consistency of data.

  • Data team volunteers use written and verbal communication skills to clarify community member information, possess attention to detail, and problem solving skills.
  • Be familiar and comfortable working with spreadsheets and receive training on Ministry Platform.
  • Time Commitment:
    • 2-4 hours per week (from home)

Communications and Marketing Admin
Intentional with their words and quick to respond to conversation

  • As the Email and Marketing Manager, you are the communication-side of the Crossroads Labs team. Your responsibilities will cover our main communication channel and the Labs email, you will schedule meetings and respond to volunteers needs/requests.
  • Have knowledge of data tools and willing to learn more tools: Decipher, Google forms, Tableau, Birst, Amplitude, etc.
  • Time Commitment:
    • Weekly monitoring of labs email address and marketing campaigns when needed
    • ~ 2 - 4 hours a month
