South Africa
March / MU Students

3/23/2019 - 3/31/2019

Miami students, how are you spending Spring Break? Join others from MU on our GO trip to Durban, South Africa to work with our partner, Build The Future. Experience the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, the beautiful countryside of KwaZulu Natal and work at the Build The Future preschools in Ndwedwe. These are two of the newer preschools that need infrastructure work - like painting murals on containers and walls, planting food gardens to help with the feeding, putting up fencing or playground equipment. There’s always time to help cook lunch for the kids and spend some time with them playing and in the classroom. End the week with a safari at Thula Thula and enjoying some sea and sun fun on the beautiful of the Dolphin Coast.

The Boulders

The Boulders condo complex is located in Ballito, a small, bustling, modern village nestled between the rolling sugar cane hills and the warm Indian Ocean Coast of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Situated just 30 minutes north of Durban, in the heart of the Dolphin Coast, The Boulders is on the beachfront. The condos are three bedroom, furnished in "beach house style" with stunning views over the warm Indian Ocean and “Granny's Pool"- a small, semi-private beach.

Fix breakfast with your condo mates, you’ll have choices like eggs, bacon, toast, pastries, cereal, yogurt and fruit - coffee, tea and juice. Lunches will be bagged lunches of PB&J sandwiches, fruit and chips. Dinner will be a catered buffet with a salad, usually chicken, beef or pork entrees with plenty of potatoes and veggies and dessert.

Build the Future

Build the Future aims to take as many kids off the street and enroll them in our preschools, so they can be safe, while learning and playing. They are striving to plant preschools in areas that are densely populated with local inhabitants, who are the poorest of the poor, but who’s children deserve an education and nourishment. They go where no-one else will, for the future of South Africa.
