Appalachia encompasses 13 states and 420 counties, the edges of which are within 2 to 4 hours of our Ohio and Kentucky church locations, and many people who are a part of Crossroads have roots in Appalachia. It’s an area rich in tradition, culture, values, and natural beauty, yet it has 82 of its counties categorized as economically distressed with high concentrations of poverty, unemployment, poor health, and severe educational disparities. Though much progress has been made in the past few decades, there is still a significant gap to bring Appalachia to parity in enjoying the economic and living conditions of the rest of the country. We are just starting to explore how to get involved. You can go with a team and experience the people and the beauty of Appalachia in Eastern Kentucky while providing hands on work to improve living conditions for families in the area.

“I have a new perspective now and am so excited to see my life through a different lense. I feel like I have a new beginning to my life and I can’t wait to see what happens next.”

Change that will last

We partner with Appalachian organizations to build lasting and effective change.

Christian Appalachian Project

Christian Appalachian Project has been helping the people of Appalachia for more than 50 years and is one of the most respected and impactful organizations in helping develop solutions to poverty and care for people in the region. They have a wide variety of ministries, and our trips in 2020 will focus on their home repair crews that leverage volunteers to work on projects to help needy families have homes that are safe, warm, and dry.

You have questions? We have answers.

Who can go?

Pretty much anyone
The only requirement is that you are 18 years old, or 14 years old with a parent or guardian. And groups of two or more, like families or small groups, can sign up together.

How much does it cost?

That may sound like a lot, but you should know this covers everything (hotel, meals, activities, etc.), and this is a number you’re meant to tackle with your friends and family.

Of all of our trip participants, only 5% have had to contribute to their own trip.
