The Surprise Answer to Unlock Your Purpose

All of us want purpose and meaning in our lives, but it’s easier said than done. We’re stuck in the daily grind—get up, hit the gym, finish the project, run errands, make dinner, and binge a bit till we crash and do it all again tomorrow.

Today we’re going to talk about how God has hardwired you for deeper meaning that is only found when we look outside of ourselves.

Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Chaser–a few questions after the weekend service to start conversations. If this is your first time in a group, or your group has new members, take a few minutes and introduce yourself. Two truths and a lie is always a good place to start.

  1. It’s community weekend here at Crossroads—a chance to hear from your Community Pastor. So, people in this group may have heard totally different messages. (Wild, eh?) Who did you hear this weekend, and what did they share?

    Some follow up questions:
What about the message did you agree or disagree with, and why?
If you had to make one personal change based on what you heard, what would it be?

  2. Each message shared the idea of “living life like it’s not about you.” Share a story where you put someone else first and made a sacrifice.

    Some follow up questions:
Why did you decide to to put someone else before you?
How did you feel about it before, during, and after?

  3. Someone read this story from the life of Jesus out loud. If Jesus is willing to wash some unfresh feet, what can we say is true about him and his character? Everyone share.

    Some follow up questions:
What sticks out to you about this passage?
How might you “wash one another’s feet?” (Not literally. Unless you want to. Then, go for it.)

  4. Does putting others first come naturally to you? Why or why not?

    Some follow up questions:
How would your close friends and family answer that questions about you?
    How would your acquaintances?

More from the Weekend

Who can you serve this week? Whether it is your family, your friends, your coworkers, or your church, decide to put someone else before you, and declare it to your group. Then, go and do it.

Before you close the group, be sure to pray together. We’ll see you next week.
