The Super Bowl of Preaching | 2019

Join us for an unconventional, schticky, preaching competition that turns a church service into a spectator sport.

Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Chaser–a few questions after the weekend service to start conversations and push a little deeper. Go on. Dive in.

  1. Why in the world would Crossroads do the Super Bowl of Preaching? Whether this is your first Super Bowl, or your 17th, talk about it. What do you think of service? Why do you think a church would do something like this?

If you want to hear why we do this right from our Senior Pastor Brian Tome, check this out.

  2. No matter what you think about God, we believe he wants you to win. What are areas in your life where He may be cheering for you. It could be home, work, friends–anything. Go around the group and share.

Now think about those areas, and pick one where YOU want to win. Declare it to your group.

  3. To win at that thing you declared? Yeah, you’ve gotta play the long game. Good thing we’ve got a solid model of a God who plays the long game. What are some behaviors or moves you can make in the next week to make winning a reality? Maybe it’s starting a new habit. Maybe it’s saying no to something difficult. Whatever it is, share it with your group.

  4. Those changes you just named are a strong offensive play. As a group, take a few minutes discussing how you can help each other keep the momentum moving and encourage each other. (Maybe it’s a text thread, or meeting up for happy hour.) No matter what you decide, don’t move to the next question until you have your gameplan.

  5. Winning doesn’t happen through an individual effort and pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps. Read Joshua 1:9 and then Jeremiah 29:11 out loud. Take a moment and talk about those verses. What stood out to you? Then, pray for each other. Remind each other that God is with you and for you. And no matter what you declared earlier, with God, you can do it.

More from the Weekend

We’re pumped to have shared the Super Bowl with you. And we’d love it for your to share it with others. But this isn’t just a simple Facebook share, we want you to go for the two-point conversion. Commit to share the service with one person who needs a win, and pray for that person every morning this week.
