Crossroads Church partnered with nonprofit RIP Medical Debt to pay off more than $46.5 million in medical debt for more than 45,000 families in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee. Recipients of the payoffs were notified with bright yellow envelopes in the mail filled with a message that God loves them and has not forgotten them.
The partnership resulted in the largest-ever amount of medical debt eliminated in RIP Medical Debt’s history. The New York-based nonprofit wipes out $10,000 in medical debt for every $100 donated.
“Churches are at our best when we are a blessing to real people in our communities. We’re not here to just have big Sunday meetings,” Senior Pastor Brian Tome said.
