Awaited: A Christmas Show Returns for Sixth Season
Original, free Christmas production open to community

CINCINNATI (Oct. 30, 2012) — Crossroads is performing Awaited: A Christmas Show again for the 2012 holiday season. Fifteen free, ticketed shows will take place in the church's Oakley auditorium beginning Friday Dec. 14.

Awaited, which began in 2007, is a contemporary retelling of the traditional nativity story. More than 44,000 people attended Awaited: A Christmas Show in 2011. Crossroads’ Awaited production staff also was recently invited by the Cincinnati Opera to collaborate on the acclaimed opera, A Flowering Tree.

“I was amazed by the grand scope of the production, the professional lighting, and the superb sound quality of Awaited,” said Marcus Küchle, director of artistic operations for Cincinnati Opera. “I was moved by the imaginative script with its unusual story angle. However, the crowning achievement was the extraordinary video projections, which at times felt epic, but at other times retreated completely into the background in order not to overpower the intimate live scenes.”

The show includes a ten-piece band, adult choir, children’s choir, original dance performances and layered video projections. Audience members are immersed in the experience—from stars on the ceiling to snow falling to choir members and dancers moving throughout the Auditorium.

“The story of Christmas never goes out of style,” said Brian Tome, senior pastor at Crossroads. “But through Awaited, we've refreshed a way to tell the story—a story of God’s love for a broken people.”

Awaited is an original Crossroads production utilizing all local (and largely volunteer) talent for everything from costume and set design to musical arrangements to dance. A nostalgic Main Street holiday experience for the whole family will begin an hour before the show with free hot cocoa, cookies and family friendly activities.

“My whole family loves Awaited,” said Angie Ash, a mother of three from West Chester. “It is now just as much a part of our holiday traditions as opening presents. I would recommend it to every family as a fun way to celebrate and dive deeper into the Christmas Season!"

Free tickets for Awaited are available online beginning Dec. 03 at crossroads.net/awaited. Full performance schedule listed below.
