Official Statement from Crossroads regarding re-staging Awaited production
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CINCINNATI (Aug. 23, 2009)—Crossroads recently announced that it will stage Awaited: A Christmas Show again for the 2009 holiday season. Twelve free, ticketed shows will take place in the church’s Oakley auditorium beginning Thursday, Dec. 17.
Awaited is a contemporary retelling of the traditional nativity story. More than 20,000 people attended the first Awaited: A Christmas Show in 2007. In 2008, the shows were cancelled due to a fatal accident on opening night during an aerial performance. The 2009 show will not include any aerial performances.
"A powerful, artistic retelling of the Christmas story is needed now more than ever," said Brian Tome, senior pastor. "We believe Awaited is our best way to present the story. Last year's production was greatly improved over the first year, but it was never fully viewed by our community or the public."
Awaited is an original Crossroads production utilizing all local (and largely volunteer) talent for everything from costume and set design to musical arrangements to dance.
When asked about staging the production in light of last year's tragedy, Tome said, "All of us have tragedy and pain in our past. Sometimes to experience a new measure of healing and recovery, we must go back and face the incident again. For some of us, presenting Awaited again helps in the healing process and redeems this Christmas show experience as a positive one.”
Free tickets will be available at crossroads.net/awaited beginning Nov 30th.
